Military Tickets

I have a friend in my neighborhood whose father has offered to buy her family (of 6) Military Tickets using his (retired) military access. The problem is, her father has ZERO interest in going to WDW or even Orlando for that matter.

My question is: We've read online that someone must show their military ID at the gate of WDW to use the military tickets. Is this the case? Will they be unable to use the military tickets if her father does not come with them?

We live in a military town, but we don't know the answer, because everyone we've known who has used the tickets has had their military 'person' with them on the trip! :)

I knew someone on here would have the answer. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that a military member purchases military-discounted park hopper tix from their base / installation or the Shades of Green resort at WDW, a DD214 and/or active/retired military identification must be used.

Beyond that, when the tickets are issued they are yours to use at the parks - the military member and his/her dependents.

A good website for tips / advice is the Military Disney Tips Blog. As well, there are several WDW Magic members on here like myself that are also military / former military members. Thry might have more insight.

It depends on the ticket. With just general, slightly discounted military tickets that are available year round, you do not need to show an ID at WDW, although there is always a chance someone will ask to see them.

With the current 4 day deeply discounted salute tickets, an ID card must be shown. The tickets that are purchased on base or at Shades of Green are not activated. They must be activated at a park or guest services at Downtown Disney and you must show an ID card to do so.

He wouldn't have to go in the parks, but he would have to be there at some point.

Thanks Tammy. She always has more info, which is great! Figured she would chime in soon as she is a little more knowledgeable in this area.

Thanks guys!

Sounds like they will not be able to use the $99 tickets. So bummed for them. With 4 kids, a big discount like that helps! :(

But they're still determined to go no matter what, so I'll research the other tickets and see what they can get! Thanks again! :)

I keep up with the military tickets for clients AND for myself! :)

It is a great discount. Maybe they could talk their Dad into going and just enjoying the resort? He can get them great room discounts too!
