Might the prevalence of Stitch have a sinister motive?

We talk all the time on here about how Disney seems to be trying to shove Stitch down our throats at the parks. Stitch merchandise is everywhere, like some kind of persistent fungus, and I'm pretty sure he does meet and greets at all the parks to a greater or lesser degree (except maybe AK) Unlike the fairies or the princesses, Stitch isn't a character that they're trying to turn into a franchise, so what could Disney's motive be for pushing him so aggressively? One possibility is that one of the Disney execs really really likes Stitch.

However, could it be that sometime in the future the rights to Mickey Mouse will revert to the Disney family and the company will have a legal battle on their hands similar to the one Warner Bros./DC Comics is having with the Seigel and Shuster families over Superman? If so, perhaps Disney is trying to position Stitch as the eventual face of the Disney parks to devalue Mickey and reduce the licensing fee that the Disney family could charge them.

What do ya'll think?

No.

Honestly, Mickey, even if they have to pay for his face, will always be around. The day Disney stops using Mickey is the day they die.

Doubt it.

But the conspiracy theorists will jump on the bandwagon...

If they permanently replace all the Mickeys in the planters with Stitch like they did for a bit in Tokyo, I might get behind this one.

I would guess Stitch is all over due to kids loving the critter. I see Stitch as giving the little boys what the little girls have had for years with the Princesses. He's an easy attraction for boys. My son, and all of his friends, adore Stitch. He's the main thing he collects.

No. But just in case, be on the lookout for Stitch riding in an unmarked black helicopter or hiding behind the grassy knoll!

I think the kids love Stitch. He's a favorite among the little boys in my life. Though Disney without it's Main Cheese - doubtful.

I admit I love Stitch too - I know I'm in the minority here:zipit::lookaroun

I'm quite fond of him also. I think he is a great character and the film is full of beautiful art.

No. However, he is technically a good character, and I also agree he is a hit with the kids.

But as a new company icon to replace Mickey? Not happening....

Besides, he really isn't being forced "down our throats", otherwise Stitch Mountain could've been greenlighted. :zipit:

Oh yeah, he is on no way shape or form close to Mickey. But I do like him a lot. But I think a little insanity is good for Disney every now and then.

I didn't say that Stitch or would completely replace Mickey, just gain enough importance in the parks that a lawyer could argue for lower licensing fees for Mickey. In the Superman case, Warner Bros. lawyers tried to argue that Superman isn't as valuable a character as the Siegels and Shusters were making him out to be because of the poor box-office performance of Superman IV. It's a stupid argument, sure, but if Warner's has to pay the creators' families to use Superman, they want to get away with paying as little as possible.

Similarly, I was just speculating that Disney might be artificially hyping Stitch to create the appearance that Mickey is not as financially valuable as he once was in case Walt Disney's descendants ever take them to court over the rights to him. It might not make a ton of logical sense, but oftentimes such legal maneuvering does not.

If we're going to jump on said turnip wagon, then would presume that they could lose the name "Disney" as well. Then whadda they do?

Honestly if you get rid of Mickey then you get rid of Disney. That's not going to happen. Disney is riding the cash wave all they can on stitch. He for some reason sells to the kids which means Stitch shirts, hats, stuffed animal and so on. Honestly stitch does not appeal to me and my wife at all. We find him to be more annoying than likable and wish he would just go away.

Exactly. Mickey springs eternal.

They will fight to the death for it and win.

I dont and never had understood the negativity toward stitch. Yes I was mad when they got rid of AE but honestly stitch is one of the better characters disney has come up with in years. I personally am a big fan. Ive never seen why there has been such stitch bashing. And in no way is he shoved down our throats more than a bugs life, or toy story, or monsters or any character with an attraction. Just because one has an attraction dosent mean its taking over or overwhelming. (well the publicity for the attraction was over the top in I believe 2005, but honestly they've dialed back.)

I think that they need to think of a stitch attraction that could work, instead of SGE. They need a comical dark ride or something though.

O and one other thing. Is it possible for them to ever expand Pixar Place with Cars ride, a MI ride, and a Wall-E ride?
I want those so bad!
