Midnight at MK

Is that one of those "If a tree falls in the woods.." questions? :ROFLOL::ROFLOL:

I saw a t-shirt on a man the other day:
"If a tree falls in the woods and there is no man around, is it still his fault?"

Now if they *really* wanted to have some special magic for just the few Guests who happen to be in the area at the time, I could picture them having Cinderella running from the Castle as the clock chimes midnight, missing a slipper, running across the Hub and offstage, followed a few moments later by the Prince holding the other slipper running after her... (Sounds like something the CMs might arrange as an off-the-clock stunt.)

-Rob

Running in heels? Are you nuts?:ROFLOL:
And one shoe on and one shoe off? No, no. Safe - D begins with me:ROFLOL:

Anyhow, it seems we don't often travel back in time with our characters. Aurora doesn't sleep much anymore. Cinderella has her prince, so no need for him to chase her. There is only one glass slipper left so she can't have one and the prince have one. Most of our girls are stuck in time a few years after their movie. The only princess to have moved forward is Ariel. She and Eric have a teenage daughter.

As for an off-the-clock-stunt, costumes have to be returned before you can clock out. Hmmm...Unless Cinderella and Prince Charming do it in their incognito street clothes. Did you know that sometimes they wander the parks in clothes just like you and I have? They like to get a feel for the place without being bombarded by guests. You have to look really carefully to notice it is them.:animwink:

I only learned about this my last trip. It was midnight, Fantasyland, my son and nephew were looking like they were about to fall asleep, the other adults had gone off to Philharmagic and I was in charge of the sleeping babes. I walked the stroller under the twinkling tree lights near the carousel, the kids conk out, when all of a sudden ... the clock started striking midnight! I was, please please please don't wake up! :animwink:

Was it the Castle chiming midnight? Or the bell tower over Pinocchio's Village Haus? Not many people realize that it's there, unless they're nearby when it chimes the hour in "Big Ben" fashion... (Even though you can clearly see the bells in the tower)

I had a feeling that's what the OP was talking about, but I still figure I'll wait until Sunday night when DW returns from work and see what she has to say about it.

No, Pinocchio's Village Haus has bells that sound different than the castle's. At PVH, they are very German sounding. I hear them at the grotto all the time. The bells I heard at midnight sounded exactly as they do in the movie. In fact, as soon as I heard them, I started reciting the movie: "oh that clock....I hear you...time to get up you say..."etc. That is when I was informed that the chime was because of Cinderella and her lost slipper.

Still looking forward to what your DW says though. Where is she an area manager?

F&B. Many of the regulars know her, or know me through her (and visa versa). BTW, did you ever end up working with my father (Jeff)? He hasn't picked up shifts in FOREVER, so I think he's a self-term for not working at all in a 6 month period, but he got a call from a girl at Epcot asking if he could pick up some shifts over the Holidays.

What a great detail, I'll have to try and check that out next time I'm down. I was there for NYE last year but it was a little "loud" at Midnight :hammer:

No, I never saw anyone named Jeff. We have a Jeffery at MK, but he is a FT CM.

When she pulls a duty shift, does that make her the Duty Manager of the Day, the one that gets the segway for the tunnels? I sometimes hear a manager tell me we can't do something because the duty manager says we are hindering traffic flow in the park.

lol...

But no, she's never done a Duty shift at the parks, only Downtown Disney. That's why she's learning what they do.

Could be ... all I know is that I was counting the chimes (there were 12) because I was hoping it would stop! :)

I have been in the MK many times at midnight, but I can not ever remember hearing the castle chime. I know I've seen the lights wash over the castle as the park is closing.

We will be there starting 11-16, and on 11-18 we will be having dinner at CRT then staying on through the PM/EMH. Park closes at midnight and is open til 3am. So I will def. be making sure our group is near the castle at midnight to hear the chimes.

Maybe we'll even act out the Cinderella moment ourselves.....me as Cindi and DH as Prince Charming, which he is!

Been there hundreds of times at midnight even through 3am. Never heard it. Even during the P&PP...nothing. It seems hard for me to believe that I was in an attraction EVERY time this went off. Especially since I have been around for this ALOT

I know how you feel. I've been working at MK for almost 6 months now and many, many times for EMH in the hub area. I can't believe I never heard it before either. But this time, when I did hear it, I was literally standing at the base of the castle on the backside, right by Sir Mickey's. Maybe that had something to do with it. Some noises become white noise and we block them out.

You know, I've heard the bells in the PVC area, which is whre the Dumbo ride is, right? Well, the odd thing is that I could see the bells clearly, and I can tell you right now, that the song the bells play is like the european version of the Westmister chime. It might be custom made, or something like that.
