I love MNSSHP - it's my favorite of the after-hours parties - but I don't always dress up (especially if it's too warm). I have a good time either way. Just do what is right for you and ENJOY!

My DH didn't want to spend the money on a costume for my DD (didn't know about MNSSHP until we got there), so we bought her a princess hat (I think the pic on my avatar has my DD wearing the hat - can't remember though :lookaroun). I've felt bad ever since that she didn't have a costume on - especially when looking at pics of her with the characters in their costumes . If we make it back there for the party, I'll want to dress up too!
