I am a massive Christmas geek, it's absolutely my favorite time of year, and I love, love, LOVE watching Christmas movies. Mickey's Christmas Carol is hands down my favorite. I have very fond memories of watching it as a child and have wanted to own a copy for years and years. When I first heard it was on DVD a few years back I was giddy with excitement and I couldn't wait to get it. Mickey's Christmas Carol is beautifully animated and perfectly captures the spirit and essence of Dickens' original story. The music is fantastic too..."joy to the children far and near", and just hearing it moves me to tears.
My family has never been very close and we never really did anything together but inevitably, every year, we would all end up gathering around the tv to watch Mickey's Christmas Carol and there wouldn't be a dry eye in the house. To this day my Dad will watch it and bawl like a baby. Just the other day he commented that he would love to watch it. I guess one of the main reasons I love Disney is because it seemed to be one of the few things that could bring my family together. I have very fond memories of watching Old Yeller, Swiss Family Robinson, Mary Poppins, the Herbie Movies and countless others with my family and I hope to continue that tradition with our children when we have them.
When I think of Walt Disney I think of brilliant storytelling and Mickey's Christmas Carol is a shining example of that. I think Walt would be incredibly proud. By the way, on the original program that aired on tv there were several cartoons, two of which I haven't seen in years. One had Donald having a snowball fight with Huey,Dewey and Louie and the other featured Goofy learning to snow ski. Can someone tell me if these are featured on any of the DVD collections that have been released?
