Mickey Mouse LPS Ride - Blue Sky Plans for DCA

The ride was a masterpiece and a true example of what Disney can do. That was the Disney that took risks and built amazing new rides that were different. Much different from the brand company now that just uses the hottest IPs to make their rides and good luck with them actually adding anything rather than replacing it. Take in the live acting mixed with the AA's and you had some pretty cool effects that no other ride had pulled off. You never saw a ride that celebrated the classics of Hollywood much like The Great Movie Ride did.
That depends on the actor that your riding with. Some and are good and some are just either bored or cringeworthy

I'll grant that the ride was ambitious, but is it fun or memorable? Not to me.

On a side note I don't know how they can go wrong if they develop a trackless Mickey ride as cool as Mystic Manor.

Don't confuse TDO with Disney as a whole (especially since this is a Disneyland thread). Outside of GoTG - Star Wars, Frozen, Marvel and this are all new builds. With few minor casualties like Gadget's Coaster and at the very worst Monster's Inc.

The acreage of both Anaheim parks are increasing - the opposite may be true in Florida. Thankfully Disney seems to be as fed up with the One Disney Parks mantra as we are. Repurposing buildings to save money can continue to be a Florida thing.

A Mickey fun house could easily include elements from pass Mickey cartoons. I'm thinking something like Mystic Manor but cartoon Mickey and crazy carnival dark ride. It could be placed under California Screamin and have the entrance at the Maliboomer.
Good idea to use the Mali-boomer space for a ride instead of a smoking area :)

Am I totally missing something? Where does everyone think this space is in the Maliboomer plot? The Maliboomer had a very tiny footprint. The only thing that could fit there is another flat ride.

I don't know what the current purpose of the warehouse beside TSMM is, but they'd have to take that out to free up any reasonable acreage. Is that what everyone means?

The rumor I remember reading on Laughingplace was that there was an "expansion pad" behind Maliboomer for a show building similar to Midway Mania. The entrance to the future ride would presumably be where the Maliboomer once stood.

If you look at an overhead, there really is no space back there. Right now, it's a service road that also serves as backstage parade access. Even if they used the road, there certainly doesn't appear to be enough space for a building remotely as large as Midway Mania

Yep. I think the assumption was that the old parade warehouse would be demolished to make room. I can't remember when they built the new warehouse, but I think it was around 2008 when the Pixar Play Parade started.

When are they going to put the Pixar Play Parade out of it's misery and get a new parade for DCA? DCA has had three parades in it's existence including the Electrical Parade it stole from DL. Isn't it time for something new?
Marvel Shoehorn an Attraction Parade
Disney Social Clubs Parade
Kira Nerys Smoking Section Parade

Maybe Paint the Night or Soundsational will end up there?

But I do agree, something new would be great.

My guess is that they are finally acknowledging that they have a serious capacity problem in Anaheim. In order to manage financial growth well into the future at DLR they have to find ways to accommodate more customers. I agree with SSG that in a way the investment is overdue, especially considering how successful DLR has been since the economy rebounded following the recession.
If this were another time I'd correct you and say they're "guests," but today "customers" is probably more accurate.
Fortunately for us, there's nothing in DCA the Mickey attraction can replace that it won't upgrade. Can't wait to see this here at DCA and I hope the stars align to make it so sooner rather than later.
Mickey replacing RSR confirmed :hilarious:

The "new" parade barn (located next to the Screamin' station) was built in early 2001, in preparation for the Electrical Parade. Considering how hastily it was added in a budget-conscious era, it actually looks pretty decent (assuming you're okay with backstage infrastructure being visible inside the park, which is a whole different can of worms). As far as I know, this has been the "main" parade barn since Eureka!'s retirement, but I don't know what the other facility is used for now

Considering the World of Color viewing area is directly on the parade route, it's safe to assume that DCA won't ever run a nighttime parade again. If they're only running one parade at a time, even with seasonal entertainment and street shows, they should be able to function just fine with the single parade barn; DL has been running with just one for years and they have 2 daily parades and plenty of seasonal additions

EDIT: If they need more parade space in the future, they could always use part of the service road that runs behind the park. It hasn't been used in any meaningful capacity since the Timon lot closed to guests, and parts of it are already used for equipment storage. If that road is in play, there's a ton of space behind Screamin' to reconfigure the backstage layout

DCA has actually had 4 parades in its 15-year life: Disney's Eureka! A California Parade (yes, that's the real name), Disney's Electrical Parade, Block Party Bash, and Pixar Play Parade, along with an even more pathetic version of the Halloween party cavalcade, which I won't even count.

That said, I agree that it's time for a new parade. PPP has been running (on and off) for 8 years now, which seems like long enough

Wow, I did not realize PPP was still running! Shows how much I've paid attention. I see a parade once and I'm done, haha. Except for the night parades, of course.

Agreed though, it's time for a new parade at DCA. Preferably one that is not limited to just Pixar too. Love Pixar, but the parade just didn't feel as magical to me. With a Mickey ride likely coming, it could be a neat idea to focus the parade more on classics. I know DL already does that some, but IMHO, you can never do that too much.
