This is something I've been wondering about...How come the colored Mickey Head balloons are inside a Clear Mylar balloon? Is this for reasons of people being allergic to rubber balloons or is it for something else??

i have often wondered the same thing! my best guess is it might have something to do with all those rubber balloons rubbing together might create static cling and maybe the mylar balloons keep that from happening

I like the way the look inside the clear baloon, I wish they would make ones out of that metal material so even when they loose air they still look good :).

Like everyone has said, I am pretty sure it is used for protection. I have seen many guests take of the clear covering, and some like it. My cousins call the balloons a balloon in balloon, kinda cute...

It is just because it looks more interesting. They started at Disneyland and were able to sell the balloons for more money as there is more to it, and it soon caught on at WDW. There is a greater perceived value in the balloon so they sell more balloons and at a greater price. It's like selling two balloons at once.

They do last forever! We bought one for our son on our last trip July 2009. To bring it back to Ireland we had to let the gas out of it but when we got home we just blew it up again with air and it's still going. I did think $10 was expensive for a balloon on our last day but he really wanted it and still plays with it now. Must be something to do with the balloon inside the balloon?

With so many places selling balloons at home I am surprised at the number of people who buy the balloons at WDW. I am really surprised at the number of people who stop and buy them early in the morning and deal with them all day...I guess I am a mean mom!

I was told when I called the Disney florist that the inner ear shaped balloons lose air very quickly (she stated usually in about four hours). I don't know if it's because of the different material it's made out of or what, so I believe this is the real reason for the outer shell balloon.
I wanted to have my son walk in our hotel room and have a bouquet of like 20 ear balloons but she said that they don't like to do that because it wouldn't last very long.
