Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway - Disneyland

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I think the Fantasyland Theater is an asset the park should use and highlight.

I've never understood why so many here are so eager to bulldoze it and even Disney themselves seems to forget it exists even though it's probably DL's best in-park venue.

Never seen anything there. Never sat in there. Never even walked in there. Only ever used the bathrooms next to it. I've been to DL many times and have never even considered this attraction.

If Disneylandforward ever happens I would love a real theater in the expanded spot. I love the new theater in Tokyo! Then we can bulldoze the old theater and add a frozen or tangled ride!

So, I'm just "blue-sky-ing" here but I've thought the placement of MMRR was a missed opportunity for Toontown. The entire plot of MMRR is that we're meant to be taking a train ride with Goofy for a peaceful trip "around the park".

Mickey's Toontown has both a park and a Railroad station so why not take this time to expand on those areas and really bring them into the Toontown fold, while being able to present a modified version of the attraction without the need for all the "Hollywood movie" queue and "come see Mickey's new cartoon" shticks? It makes sense for Hollywood Studios, it's the ONLY way for it to make sense there but here in Toontown, we're sort of already in the toon universe, not stepping into it, right? I was thinking something along these lines:

View attachment 559721

You enter through a newly expanded "Toon Park" for a train ride with Goofy. The queue could go over the DLRR via bridge and really tie the whole Toontown/Train ride theme together. The old Fantasyland theatre would be replaced with a new, modified MMRR show building (you wouldn't need all the indoor queue and show elements because in DL, you'd be losing the "jump into a cartoon" element).

While, they're at it, they could "turn around" the DLRR entrance and have it right next door to the MMRR entrance, thus "Toontown Station" finally is actually in Toontown and ties again, into the entire area.

Again, I'm just Armchair Imagineering here. I'm happy to see Toontown get a new attraction in any form.

The show building would tower over the Casey Jr area and ruin the whole lovely feel of Fantasyland.

How can you load the train from the opposite side? The Disneyland trains must load train right.

You are absolutely right about the train, I had never even considered that!

Disagree with the show building towering part, though. Just watched another POV of Casey Jr. and the current theatre structure is just another couple of trees away from being hidden entirely (and the theatre tent is pretty tall already). Assuming Disney could be bothered, they could easily hide it and retain the charm of the area.

But it'll never happen, either way. I was just imagining a reality we'll never see.

I think functionally it's a great asset. But the facility sucks. The open tent concept works well for the Fantasy Fare shows. A broadway production should be an enclosed *nice* theatre. Tokyo's new theatre being the watermark. But HKDL, SDL and even WDSP have better theatres for their mixed media Mickey Revues.

I'm also not sure if the area falls in the Fireworks radius or not. If it doesn't, a theatre would be better moved towards the fireworks, since they really don't tend to run those shows beyond daylight hours.

Are we still hoping the expansion pad to the east of Smuggler's Run is going to be a place for a third GE attraction? If not, they can build a really nice indoor theater there accessed from the Chip & Dale treehouse area (perhaps doing a street grade bridge with the backstage road going under it a la DTD), then raze the FL Theater and put a nice sized dark ride there.

I'm sure there is.

A rollercoaster? That's news to me! Would be fun!

Yeah there were some rumors that Disney began to consider a roller coaster for GE after the lackluster response to the land. They lasted two seconds though because then the pandemic hit.

I wonder how they would theme that.
Hopefully like this: https://www.slashfilm.com/theme-par...heme-park-coming-green-lantern-coasters-open/

One of the cool things about Galaxy's Edge is that the attractions don't take you out of the immersion of the land. The only way to accomplish this with a roller coaster would be to do something like what is shown in that link. An indoor well-themed coaster where you can't (or can barely) see the track.

Sorry Potter fans, but the likes of Flight of the Hippogriff or Hagrids Bikes won't cut it here. If you're going to do a roller coaster you need to do it right and make it not appear to be a roller coaster or don't do it at all. The question is, is there enough space there to accomplish an indoor trench run coaster?

It's also why I don't want the Tron coaster to come to Disneyland. I mean the thing is literally just a roller coaster and doesn't have half the theming a Disneyland ride should have. It would be wildly out of place in the park and I don't like that every new Tomorrowland rumor has it being built inside Disneyland.

Not enough space. You could get something small the size of pony express at Knott's.. But what would it be themed to? Unless it's a tronish copy but with land speeder theme. Pod racing is out as the lore of the land that pod racing has been banned for years.
I could see a speeder bike ground coaster. That would be easier to accomplish than pod racing as its more about tight canyons/caverns rather than wide race tracks.

It's themed for 10 seconds at least...

For a Star Wars coaster I read a cool concept where during the ride you crash land on Dagobah. Then Yoda lifts up your vehicle and sends you on your way. The concept could be reworked with the Mandolorian and Grogu.

It would be one of the worst things ever built at Disneyland. The building is huge and ugly and there’s nowhere to even partially hide it here. The ride is also way too short.

If the Eastern Gateway project ever gets approved, I'd rather they use this coaster style for a Captain America ride. They could even keep the Hollywood Land aesthetic and make it a Captain America Museum or something so it fits with both Hollywood Land and Avengers Campus.

The x-wing/tie fighter would be an amazing addition to the land. Keep using the backstage area keeping only essential functions. Imagine they could move the parade floats to a different facility north of this warehouse.

A speeder bike theme and have it glide thru the Spires of Black Spire Outpost while you're being chased by Bounty Hunters and First Order Mountain Troopers?

Easier said than done, the warehouses for the floats need to be at least somewhat close to the start of the parade route.
Yeah, probably not easy but the warehouse just to the north of this isn't more than a few feet away. It's probably unlikely they do anything given their current plan to expand to the west aka old DTD parking lot.
