Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway - Disneyland

I set up a separate thread about the debate of what "ISSE" means: https://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/what-does-isse-mean.957996/.

Anyway, to (sort of) get this thread back on track, I'm realizing that regardless of whether Goofy's Paint 'n' Playhouse were to replace Goofy's Playhouse and the coaster were to be rethemed, Donald's Boat is still sandwiched in between, and the space there is not that big for anything.

I've thought of one of those Twist 'n' Splash ride types from Mack with a Donald theme as a replacement, which would be welcoming on a hot day, but A) I'm not sure if it's too big for the space; B) even if it wasn't, it would still require the removal of Donald's boat and thus any semblance of a place of dwelling for Donald; and C) the speed moves quite slowly (probably by necessity). Here's a sample video of such a ride in action (a SpongeBob Sqaurepants-themed ride from Blackpool Pleasure Beach in England):

We could theoretically reduce the footprint with just one spinning... teacup, for a lack of better terms, but even so, it would certainly lower the capacity seen in the video, which I think looks low enough as it is.

They have something like that Legoland California except it is on a track.

Really is no necessity for a brand new thread to discuss a spelling error...

I was worried that we were going to get off topic again, as we did with the debate about what constitutes an E ticket.

A new thread would have been able to keep that topic going without disrupting this thread.

Here is an overhead shot of Donald's Boat (circled in light blue):

As you can see, it is sandwiched between the Go Coaster and Goofy's Playhouse, so it would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to put in anything worthwhile there, unless it was extremely small. The Twist 'n' Splash ride from Mack is touted as occupying a small footprint, but it's still a lot bigger than the space that Donald's Boat occupies, don't you think?

i agree the land does need some help i was just pointing out that those areas are to small for full rides but refreshed homes, interactive locations or even a flat ride would work great.

it would have been perfect if they had re used the lady bug boogie and re-skinned it for the area. fun ride that would have taken little space.

what gadget needs is an upgrade in theming, i don't mind the gadget theme. here in the state gadget might be a character of the past but you would be surprised how recognizable it is with out of town people. i still see the comics for many of thise older characters sold in newsstand in foreign countries. I just never understood why she was in toontown instead of other toon characters more closely connected to Goofy, Donald, Mickey and minnie which are all in the land.
how about Donald nephews
In my opinion i really think they should consolidate toontown and cut half of it off and reuse the property. Move mickey and Minnie greet over to the south and eastern side of the land. They can use the old trolley barn area as well as the cul d sac and large green space to create a new meet and greet.

tear everything out on the west side and build a show room for another dark ride not connected to the land. build it like the ISSE show building where the ride is behind the berm and entrance south of tracks. tear out the fantasyland theater and turn that into Belles village. the new ride would enter from that area.

The remaining toontown would be half the size and allow them to build a covering over it. a covering that would allow them to go all out with theming. toontown would basically be like the mermaid land in tokyo. They can use black lighting and projections to enhance the theming and it would solve the issue of paint maintenance and allow them to have fireworks without diminishing the parks capacity at night.
There's a lot more to Mickey's House than most people think. And it won't fit into the Jolly Trolly carbarn. But dream away....

Are there any rumors about the trolly coming back to life?

I don't think so. They proved to be problematic with so many people in the way. Even Tokyo's Toontown retired its Jolly Trolley as well. So I think it's safe to say they're never coming back.

But also, you never answered my question I posted earlier about if the space for Donald's Boat, given its location, can handle a small attraction. Here's an overhead image of it (circled in light blue):

And it's not quite the same thing as what Legoland has. That is a moving ride, whereas this concept of a Twist 'n' Splash is a spinning ride, like the teacups, only much slower and wetter. And it's not by the same company, either. The pirate-themed squirting ride is by Preston & Barbieri (a company in Italy), not by Mack (a company in Germany).

So, again, I ask, could a Twist 'n' Splash kind of ride work in that space of Donald's Boat, or could it not?

Part of Goofy’s Playhouse would need to be torn out with the boat in order for Twist n’ Splash to fit. Both of those combined is ⅓ of Little Mermaid, or about the size of an oddly shaped Tuck n’ Rolls Drive ‘em Buggies from Bugs land. The boat itself can only fit something like Francis’ Ladybug Boogie tho I’d rather not see another flat ride

Just what DLR needs. Another spinning ride.

It would be better than just letting Donald's Boat continue to sit there, going to waste. Even so, regardless of whether a ride like a Twist 'n' Splash or Francis' Ladybug Boogie were put in the space, it would still necessitate the removal of the boat itself, and with it, the concept of a home for Donald.

What would you recommend? And no jokes or sarcasm here, please.

Would there be enough space to put a tugboat ride in the space of Donald's boat? It's obviously not going to rock anyone's socks off, but it would be a welcome addition I feel in terms of adding to the kinetic energy of the area.

You mean like one of those spinning tugboat rides, like this?

First of all, while I would agree that a ride like it might fit in thematically, again, I'm not sure how big the space is for it. Secondly, I believe they have those kinds of rides at both Knott's Berry Farm (Rapid River Run)...

...and SeaWorld (Oscar's Rocking Eel):

I'm not sure if it's a smart idea to have that kind of ride so close to another park that also has it, unless maybe there was some way to differentiate it somehow, like, say, an interactive element like squirting water or something (maybe have onlookers trying to douse the riders with water from mounted water guns).

Thirdly, it would still seem like a downplay to have Donald's home be taken away while his friends all have dwellings of their own. Maybe it could be set up so that you see his house/boat/whatever, but not actually go into it. Maybe make it like the S.S. Donald from the old Birthdayland/Starland from WDW's Magic Kingdom:

Anyway, the idea may or may not work, but because Disneyland is where Mickey and the gang live, it should be set up so you can at least see Donald's dwelling. Not necessarily go into it per se, but just be able to see it.

I have put up a thread for discussing how to improve Donald's Boat and/or the space it occupies: https://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/donalds-boat-overhaul-in-mickeys-toontown.958145/. So now we can continue our discussion of Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway proper on this thread again.

But first, I just would like to ask for help on the space on what can be done over there. Just click on the link I provided and go from there.

Okay, back to the discussion of Runaway Railway...
