I’ve only ever been on the WDW version but based on the videos the ceilings look lower at DL, is that true? It looks less warehouse-y. But that could just be the videos

Is all of Toontown open in which to have an extended queue, or is part still walled off such that the extended queue has to go outside of Toontown?
No, the majority is walled off. The open space in front of the closed Roger rabbit ride is used for stroller parking.

They could wrap the Q around the fireworks / jail area if needed I guess.

It’s honestly pretty bizarre. They used to design some pretty basic, but serviceable, extended queue area. Nothing fantastic to look at, but it was always “within the park”. With all of these new rides, you’d expect them to do the same, but nope. “Backstage” it is I guess.
The summer that Space Mountain opened the queue went down Main Street, backstage at the BoA/now Disney Gallery building, and nearly back to Space.

I'm immersed! Thank you for the complimentary immersion Ken Potrock and team! 😘

I don't know what's more idiotic about this concept; that they'd force you to use Genie+ to join a Virtual Queue to just be shunted backstage to an unthemed business park alley... or the LA hipsters badly wearing their Covid masks in 2023 that do absolutely nothing scientifically or medically and yet they still wear them because they have no more brains left. :banghead: 🤣🤣🤣
Looks like a WDI designer was "inspired"
by their San Fernando Valley apartment complex when creating this area. I hope there is a multicultural backstory involved that Disney Parks Blogs can talk about.

Got to ride MMRR this morning with a Lightning Lane! It’s a lovely, charming ride that’s perfect for Toontown and will settle in nicely once it moves to Genie+ and standby. The queue is absolutely the star of this addition and it's a shame I didn't get to see more of it in the LL; so many amazing little details and easter eggs all the way into the theater. The ride itself is lovely (bright and cheery, nice crisp animation, really engaging artwork and has a surprising amount of frenetic energy given how slow the vehicles are). I will say the factory crusher scene is a little too rushed, but maybe it's because we ended up going in there last (we started out sitting in Car 2, Row 3, which is I think a really ideal spot otherwise). I can forgive the exposed ceiling and the odd 3/4 Mickey projection heads. All in all, good stuff.

In less than ideal news, I tried to get a VQ at 1pm and struck out pretty badly with a backup boarding group. But don’t worry, Disney Genie has a solution:

Note that I can’t even do that since I already purchased a LL in the morning! Ugh. It’s one thing to sell these a la carte fast passes, but it feels a little too aware to advertise them as a way to bypass the very system you put in place in the first place.

EDIT: added some more thoughts on the ride.

This is so dirty. I can’t believe more people aren’t talking about it.

It’s amazing how badly Disney is dropping the ball with guest experience in regards to the MMRR opening. To do this deceiving hybrid virtual queue/ ILL is dirty. It’s deceiving because it appears that they are saving the majority of the inventory for ILL’s and yet advertising the virtual queue as if it’s a feasible way to get on the attraction. I was watching a vlog today that showed a bunch of people sitting on Main Street staring at their phones on curb from the hub to Town Square with absolutely nobody cheering or moving at 1pm. They should have just made it ILL only. At least that way people could plan accordingly. But of course they want to avoid the bad press so instead they fool us all into thinking their is a decent shot at getting a boarding group.

Take me for example. My son was looking forward to MMRR for a very long time. Since he saw the DHS ride throughs. We had our 1/27 reservation for 90 days. The day they became available. I wake up at 6:45 am for the 7am virtual queue and they re gone in a millisecond. We go to the park at 1pm and try again. Also gone in a millisecond. With seemingly nobody around me getting one either. By that time ILL’s are sold out. Of course, if I knew how Disney was dividing the inventory and that there would still be ILLs available at noon I would have planned on being at the park earlier. Everyone thought those things would be sold out before 9am. It’s a real $hitty way to treat your guests and biggest fans just to make a few more bucks.

Now compare to that to the Super Nintendo World opening. They ve been having quiet soft openings for weeks that were very civil and pleasant. If someone wanted to ride Mario Kart, they could wait in line. Today I went to the Annual pass holder preview that had a long line but went very fast. Very efficient check in process. Got inside the land and it was busy but you could wait for whatever you wanted to do. This system Disney has going on for their new rides is absolutely ridiculous. It just feels like everyday Universal is out Disney’ing Disney when it comes to many things including attractions, guest experience, box office etc.

Back to my day on 1/27. My 7 year old son looked absolutely distraught when he thought we weren’t going to get on the ride. But Daddy found a way because that’s what Daddy does. My son wasn’t going to be disappointed while vloggers and Disney adults in Halloween costumes rode for the 6th time. Anyway, by the time we got on, the day had been tainted with disappointment, stress and anxiety. The ride was fine but not worth it.
The Disney way is so idiotic and stressful. When we were at Disney World it was the same way for Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Coaster.

Luckily the people on this board gave me tips and the ride was 6 months old at this point and not too hard to get VQ access too, but still. The idea that Disney wants to make tens of thousands of their guests to be up at 7am and rapidly refresh their phones is idiotic.

They are such an anti customer company with moves like this.

I had a family member go to Disneyland a few months ago and they were told the only way to go on Rise of the Resistance was to pay 20 dollars per person. The CM never even told them about standby. I was so angry to hear this.

This may be a one off incident but it's depressing I wouldn't put it passed Disney to train the CMs to mislead guests to sell more lightning lanes.

Again why all this headache and frustration to get 20 dollars more per person? If they need more margins on their guests just raise ticket prices and take out the frustration and micromanagement guests now have to do. You can make a profit without making things so complicated.

I also wanted to add, my wife and I once skipped 7 months or so of having a Disney Pass and did Universal and Magic Mountain instead and it was a breath of fresh air. This was all pre pandemic though of course and when we missed it we got passes again, but doesn't hurt to let your passes lapse.

Everyone always told me to "never let your Disney pass go" and how I'd lose all my grandfathered benefits. But, when I went to get a new pass I had all my grandfathered benefits (such as parking add on option for lower level passes and photos for signature pass) available to me.

Sometimes a break is for the best though. It does seem like Disney is making some (very small) strides in taking away upcharges due to the economic downturn, so I'm curious to see where they will be in a year or so with Genie+ and Park Reservations.

It really is. This is totally what I feared when they first said they would have VQ and ILL. I'll use the word I used before: shameless.

I mean, Disney is expensive. We all know that. They are a business to make money. We all know that. But THIS is just blatant, in-your-face, fleecing of the guests. We can blame Chapek for upping the upcharge game, but clearly none of the current execs are rolling that back. Until people stop signing over their bank accounts, they are going to keep doing it.

You don’t end up with two exterior doors lined up like that by accident. Not to mention the installed lighting and shade.

Fire exit doors lined up with queue lines to allow for direct access is kinda what you want when designing emergency exits... Especially when it's in a large space and you'd need a lot of people all flowing in that direction.

Anti consumer, unethical and downright dirty. It’s weird, I created that Mickey v Mario thread as kind of a fun thread to compare the new rides and lands but for me this has somehow turned into a bigger Universal v Disney thing. It’s hard not to notice the differences. I’m not kidding, I’m a few rumored new attractions at USH away from giving up my Magic Key for a Universal Platinum pass. It’s crazy what Disney is doing to dilute their brand to the point they somehow have a super fan like me contemplating such a thing.

USH is just the better experience right now. They seem to value their guests more. It's less of a hassle. You park right next to the park. It’s 15 minutes from my house vs an hour 20. Most importantly they are starting to introduce Disney level attractions now. Now when I say Disney level I mean modern Disney. In fact I think pound for pound modern Universal is better than modern Disney. Nobody could ever top old WED Disneyland. I wonder how many people from my generation and older feel the same way. They are in no way separating themselves from the competition. In fact, they ve fallen behind only resting on the shoulders of what WED and Baxters generation did in the past. I’m about 2-3 USH attractions away from making the switch. Everyday Disneyland is just becoming another theme park and if that’s the case I may as well go to the more convenient and guest friendly USH if it’s just going to be a place to walk around when the weather is nice and enjoy a day with the family.

It’s not just that the doors are lined up with a queue lane. You have two doors in close proximity right at an area where there is a U-turn that has been spaced out to provide some separation. That’s a bit counter to an overall exit strategy where you need multiple exists in multiple directions. Then there is a whole courtyard area right there which is most certainly not a public way or equivalent that counts as the end of an exit.

Having the ability to send a queue out the side of a building is a real design strategy to meet Operations’ desire/demand for all queuing to be beyond the marquee. When designing a queue there are different levels that have to meet certain capacity and program requirements which in turn is going to translate to budgetary expectations.
