Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway - Disneyland

Just to confirm, we are talking about the physical flags placed atop the carnival facades beneath the Mickey/Minnie balloon AA? I absolutely saw them turn when the tornado arrived during my evening (just before close) ride - it stuck out as an easy-to-miss but immersive moment. (I am not very familiar with the Florida version of the ride, so this wasn't a case of me "seeing" something I expected to see after experiencing the other version.)

I did not notice them during my ride in the early morning, but I wasn't looking for them - again, I didn't know the effect existed at that point. It's possible that they are having trouble with the flags, and they are not activating for all rides (including some captured in POVs)? Can someone else look out for them on their next visit?

Okay found a very recent POV (uploaded today), and the flags are indeed moving now!

Hurray.

I should have mentioned this, too. I was waiting for Goofy to face the "wrong way," but it never happened on either of my rides - so, as of 2/10, this was addressed!
While this is a good thing, it does beg the question: Did no one notice it before they opened the ride and guests started complaining on the internet? Or was it a matter of "Ugh, we've got to fix that - no time, open the ride anyway"? Interesting....

I think your latter guess is accurate. A little while ago Disney adopted Universal's policy of getting a ride open while they were still adjusting and calibrating the attraction. That's my theory as to what happened here.

Sounds right to me. This is almost like the “preview” test and adjust period. they just… don’t call it that anymore.

Also wait, just watched the end, they fixed Goofy! He now turns around completely instead of looking to the left, as if he’s staring out the front of the train!
Yes! I did see this on my trip on Sunday, but thought I was seeing things. 😂

Glad the flag effect is actually there and not value-engineered out, but it didn't go off in my ride-through so sounds like it's just a finicky effect.

I don't think it was either. I think they rushed to get this ride open, both for the 100th and to beat out the opening of Nintendo, and the new animation just wasn't' completed yet, so they put in the temporary one from DHS until it was complete. It would explain why they never bothered to reverse it because they knew the final product would be ready soon.

The meetings probably went, "We don't have time to fully test this. We need it open and we will just have to fix/finish things as we go."

Would it not look better if he looked to the right? I see what they were going for but Im not sure him starting off staring to the left and looking forward is received by the audience the way it’s intended.

Ok, so I went to Disneyland Friday after work primarily to see Wonderous Journey, but when I got there I realized I could still grab a Lightning Lane and ride MMRR for the first time, so I paid the money and grabbed one.

First off, yeah this queue is incredible. The cast members let me go through the standby queue and it is such a delight with all the attention to detail. I don't know how well it will hold up in the future, as I think a lot of my delight with it had to do with how new the entire thing was and getting to spot all the little details, but there was a point where we got stuck in the room before concessions and I was stopped next to the Mickey Disco music that I did wonder how worth it the entire line truly was. Still, as of now this was excellent. I also really liked the preshow theater and effect, though I wonder if they maybe considered altering it considering we're already in ToonTown so going into the cartoon doesn't make a ton of sense.

The ride itself really is nice. I read all the faults people have with it, like the high ceilings or the bubble faces, but when you're on the ride you don't really notice that because of sensory overload, and I think the average guest will feel the same way. I've seen ride-through videos of the Florida version so I had a pretty good idea of what to expect, but this one felt like it flowed better and managed scene transitions better, especially the tornado and underwater rooms. There's still some kinks to work out (like the Goofy-facing-the-wrong-way thing, which might be fixed by now I guess?) but it's a really solid ride in a really solid location, and I think it will remain pretty popular here because of that.

It looks fine to me now. He basically looks forward straight ahead, which is where they are located when he notices them.

and Mario Kart ended up being the better ride and much better line managed.

True Mario Kart is the better ride but I don’t think it’s by a wide margin. I’d also say that MMRR didn’t really need to be a huge hit for DLR. I wish that Mario Kart would have been the show stopper it could have been as well as the child/ family friendly-ish headliner USH needs. With that said, the land is fantastic and the package with the ride is a great step in the right direction for USH.

Side note: how can something so simple as hitting those question mark blocks and hearing that sound be so pleasing? I’d say this is the first new age interactive land that actually impresses me. It’s the right IP and execution is great. Please imagineers/ Universal Creative don’t take this to mean every land needs to be interactive. I don’t want an interactive New Orleans Square.

I get it. It just doesn’t read that way for me. In fact when I watched the video at first I thought I clicked the wrong link and it wasn’t fixed. I would have waited a few beats and had him look the right. Either way it’s better than last week haha.

Went on it this last weekend (we stayed the night and managed to get on in 3 times, 2x by VQ and once with LL) and while the ride is a bit short overall this is a great add for Toon Town with a really great queue and preshow.

Agree with others… think this will prove to be a popular addition here. Good compliment to the rest of the land.

I'm also hoping that the addition of this attraction helps the line a bit on Roger Rabbit. I think though that when TT fully re-opens there will be large crowds due to people missing both TT and RR.

I don't like the way they do the big impact moment in this version... I haven't seen any comments on it. The factory transformation to the park is not as impactful here vs. WDW and ruins the effect imo. In WDW , all the factory equipment fold up into tree triangles. Ours do not and kinda lazily wobble into a kind of a trapezoid. It's hard to notice if you haven't seen the original, but for me that moment is truly a big wow moment, with the angular transformation adding to the illusion and they've ruined it here in DL...
