Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway - Disneyland

I think the fair thing to do is remove the Monorail from the count as a "ride" at Disneyland, even though many would disagree with that. But we also need to remove the Monorail and the future Skyliner gondola system as theme park rides for WDW. After a little digging, you are also correct that the UK spinner is merely just a rumor and nothing has been announced by Disney.
I’d say that’s fair to remove the monorail from both resorts. The uk ride is basically confirmed by Martin.

The Monorail is in fact a ride at Disneyland and should be included.

I mean it is listed as an attraction on the map. Lol.

Does anyone else feel that not including the Tiki room and the like is odd in an argument like this? I get that it’s not a ride and maybe waters down the point because WDW has more shows but I find it odd.

This topic started after Disney formally announced that Disneyland would get Runaway Railway in 2022. We should stick to rides that either exist, are under construction, or have been formally announced by Disney. Rumors don't count.

Well now you're just moving the goal posts. :)

We've done this before and I've posted that chart before showing how Anaheim and WDW have almost the same amount of rides presently with Anaheim narrowly edging Orlando.

You're the one who wanted to extend the timeline to four years from now.

Since WDW has so much more real estate, it only makes sense that with more and more time, it will have more and more rides at a rate that will exceed Anaheim. The reason it doesn't now, is because they filled up the ancillary parks with zoos, shows, restaurants, festivals, and pavilions rather than rides. WDW has six night time spectaculars (a relative use of the word). It has two water parks. A much larger "down town." It has boatload more resorts from campgrounds and cabins to motel rooms and villas and DVC -- and it built monorails and ferries and gondolas for transportation within that bubble, so, those special conveyances shouldn't be put in a miscellaneous container to be dismissed. WDW spent a lot more money for a lot more attractions and amenities, just not necessarily rides.

The problem is: most people want rides. Especially repeat customers and passholders. People will ride the family coasters repeatedly many more times than they would to see the same live show over and over again (Festival of the Lion King notwithstanding). Being ride-heavy has worked for Anaheim because of all the locals. Having other types of attractions has worked for WDW in the past because it was a destination vacation. But, this has created an imbalance between the MK and the other three parks. And so, they're throwing more rides in the other three, swinging for E's. If they stuck with Cs and Ds, WDW would be winding up with two dozen more rides than Anaheim. Becoming more ride-heavy is a result of more and more repeat customers who've already seen the tigers, they just want a thrill ride they can ride over and over again.

If the seats slowly turned around the room, it would then be a ride, just like Carousel of Progress!

Tiki Room is definitely an attraction, but it is not a ride. We’re only counting rides lol.

I actually agree with you, it's a ride at Disneyland.

But for the sake of argument here and for the purposes of these ride tallies we are going to sacrifice Walt Disney's own Disneyland Monorail to the Florida Gods of swamps and Value Resorts and Darden Corporation restaurants that blanket the property around what people there so uncharmingly call "Disney".

Even by pretending the Monorail doesn't exist at Disneyland, the Anaheim parks still have more rides than WDW in April, 2019, will still have more rides after Star Wars Land opens on both coasts later this year, and will have the same number of rides in 2022 after WDW finishes building four new E Tickets after Star Wars Land opens at DHS.

But between you and me, the Disneyland Monorail is a ride. ;)

You do that and you get way down into the weeds where you are having to count bizarre little things like the Blue Sky Cellar as an "attraction", and the various World Showcase pavilions that are a themed courtyard of gift shops and a restaurant or snack bar as an "attraction", like Italy, Germany, Japan, Morocco, the United Kingdom, etc.

It's the Germany Pavilion, it's an Attraction!

And you start parsing things like the train to Rafiki's Planet Watch into two separate attractions, the train ride to get there (which counts as a ride on the DAK tally) and then the circa 1998 displays you stare at before you get back on the train to go back to the rest of the park.

It's Rafiki's Planet Watch, it's air conditioned, and it's an Attraction!

Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room is a theater show. But unlike the Carousel of Progress theater show it remains stationary, so it doesn't count as a ride.

Wow, tell us how you really feel, @TP2000! I know this is the DL section and you guys always turn your noses up to WDW because you think being near 'Walt's Park' puts you at the cool table, but geez. To each his own, but try being a little less dismissive.

It’s an illness that impacts a select few on here - a deep psychological issue where the attention that WDW gets as the flagship destination angers them , and they grasp for whatever ammo they can muster to make the case that WDW is so terrible

- like families that are ready to make vacation choices would honestly EVER have the conversation based on ride counts LOL, instead of the complete vacation experience that included other attractions like world showcase pavilions, , animal trails at AK, shows, resorts , activities, and 10x more dining options

😂😂😂😂

Ya’ll are both a bit dramatic with these posts. No one’s “turning their noses up” or “angry about WDW being the flagship resort (LOL).” It’s a ride count. Ya’ll are upset over a ride count?

Mlayton, if you were paying attention to a previous thread here in the forum, you would know the vast majority of us regulars prefer the DLR to WDW, so trust that no one is angry, nor jealous.

If you’re interested in reading comments about people preferring WDW to the DLR, create a thread with a poll outside of the Disneyland forum asking which of the two people prefer and I’m sure you’ll see the responses you want, dismissive ones included.

Lastly, Kev, being near Walt’s Park DOES put us at the cool table.😎😉

That’s funny Raven , I could have sworn that this was a MMRR thread , not a silly ride count thread

Not exactly. When a WDW-er comes on our forum presenting a chart that leaves out Attractions at the DLR and includes transportation vehicles as Attractions at WDW for the sole purpose of trying to prove that WDW has more rides (when in fact, it does not), and we correct that person, that isn’t “dismissive”. It’s fact. Nothing to do with romanticizing our Resort for being near Walt’s park. But as others have said, there is a different demographic at each Resort with different demands that contributed to the ride count. But the fact remains that the DLR has just as many, if not more rides than WDW even with all these new builds 😜

Now where exactly is MMRR going again?

Then why don’t you contribute to the actual topic instead of going on about WDW and the “illness” here, since staying on topic is so important to you? Or if that’s too much, stop returning to the DLR forum, as you will continue to find disappointment.

Just tired of sifting through the garbage off topic here to understand what’s going on and interesting speculation, I love DLR and the other resorts but the hangup that you and few others display is just a little childish , but then again where else would you post as I guess there isn’t any other DLR forums anywhere else ? It’s just like the no AC jokes that infect the gondola threads on the WDW side

You do realize you’re being childish, right? I don’t know what “hangup” you’re referring to, but it simply sounds like you don’t like it when WDW is not held in favor here. If so, that’s ironic, since this is the DLR forum.

Again, if being on topic is so concerning, then by all means, steer us back in the right direction. How do you think this new ride will affect the fireworks? What about crowd control and ride capacity?

You’ve had this whole time to contribute to the topic.
