Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party 2019

We did the first one on our August trip last year, thought my son was going to drop from heatstroke in his Perry the Platypus costume. Even the chocolate candy was starting to melt.

I know how that goes. One year, my son wore a pure black cowboy outfit, including a duster. He refused to take any off. A couple years later, he went in full Assassin's Creed outfit. I was sweating just looking at him.

About time to. I hope it’s tied in to HEA and called some something like Scarily Ever After our Happily Never After or something, that would be cool.

The Hocus Pocus show just needs some tweaking and updating each year as it’s growing a little stale already as much as I loved it when it premiered four years or so ago. It needs to keep fresh as repeat will just skip it. Another nitpick I have with it is with one of the first lines of the show when they state it’s been twentywhatever years since they were alive which is a nice reference to the movie’s release date but they say it every show, several times a day and year after year. If you saw them this year and last year then the twentywhatever years thing isn’t true since they appeared just a year ago.. you know? I knows it’s just a silly show that assumes it your first and only viewing and you have to suspend your disbelief but it still irks me just a little lol it’s like it’s Groundhog Day and they get amnesia after each show.

I also see complaints about the characters being the same year after year so switching them up would be nice too.

My biggest gripe however is the August parties, it’s pathetic. Lots of countries are still on Summer break and don’t want Halloween shoved down their throats in summer and getting kicked out of MK early during peak price and crowd season. Fall doesn’t even start until September 23rd so that is the date I would feel would be an acceptable start time. Take note Disney.

Late August is neither peak crowds nor peak price. No one is forced to visit then or go to MK the two nights each week they have a party.

And the Hocus Pocus claim is indeed silly. While I agree on characters, I think they’ve made an admirable attempt to update the party the last few years. For me, the total entertainment package is the best they offer at MK.

Remember when MNSSHP used to have more variety with their offerings? I believe they used to have a storyteller tell the story of "The Headless Horsemen" around Liberty Square.

I don't think the HP claim is all that silly. They have made an admirable attempt, but they sort of 'had' to finally change up some things. You can't keep raising the price every year and still have the same fireworks, parade and castle show you were offering 10-15 years ago... (guests seemed to finally take notice of the stale offerings). I still think for the price, the Halloween party is "worth it" as is the Christmas party.

And nope, Late August isn't peak, but you know exactly why they're offering Halloween parties then. They've been doing all they can to kill any slow periods.

August may not be peak price for the US but it is for the UK and Europe. Our school holidays run from Mid/late July to early September, August is Europe’s peak Summer season so travel agents and the Disney UK site jack up the price. The price may fall in the US as kids go back to school there but that’s certainly not the case over here.

Interesting! I’ve never heard of this before.

We did this for the first time in 2018. Hubby is adamant that we do it again this year.

The earlier parties are cheaper and less crowded.
We did it for the first time in 2016. This year the Aug 23rd falls right on our anniversary. :)
Gholuish bride and groom costumes with groom mouse hat/ bridal earband should work perfect as costumes. :p

Just sack off Independence day and start the parties in July.

Afterall, profit is more important.
I'm waiting for multiple Independence Day parties...
And would be willing to pay money for a MNSSHP type party for Independence Day...

This is getting a bit ridiculous. Not so much that this is an add-on event even. But selling tickets 8+ months in advance! I mean, seriously. It's at that point where you almost can't do a spontaneous trip anymore. ADRs are 180 days out, FP are 60... But these "parties" are 8 months out.

Sure, sure, they won't sell out for quite a while - at least until the event gets closer. But do you take that chance? Where do you draw that line? Are these events supposed to push people over the edge in even booking a trip, thinking they can jump on the opportunity of bonus time in the parks?

I don't know. I enjoy planning WDW trips as much as the next person - to a degree. 🙄

I don't mind the,m being offered so early. Would even prefer earlier so I can figure out dates based upon parties and still make by 11 month DVC booking window.

IMO, Hocus Pocus is MK's best castle stage show. The only thing I would tweak is make "Come Little Children" a bigger number, maybe at the expense of the opening dance routine. Oh, and also, update the projections on the castle to the new mapped projections with higher resolution.

Streetmosphere isn't lacking at the party. You have the HM ghosts outside the HM doing their spiels. Then there's the Cadaver Dans. Plus they keep adding Halloween overlays to the rides.

Each year they add something.

Don’t they use projections? Is it a different system? I remember candles appearing on the castle.

The opening number has really good choreo...
