Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party 2019

this upcoming trip will be my fourth August trip since 2013 (2014, 2016, 2017). The MK Halloween theming change had typically happened on our last day or so. This year it covers our entire stay. I’m usually not one to do this- as I’m a super Disney “homer”...... but this is even too much for me. I’ll plan accordingly and be fine - but definitely wasn’t expecting the party to happen three times during my stay

Keep in mind they released the "free" dining promotion for an earlier time frame this year, so either they are trying to squeeze more from that crowd or have not gotten the usual rush for those offers.

I think they know that many people are waiting for Star Wars Galaxy's edge to open. This fall is probably looking to be quieter than usual as people will put off vacation and go Spring or even later in 2020 once Star Wars is up and running. They are trying to get people to commit for fall 2019 and then work out how big the issue of delayed trips is for them.

Same thing happened to me in early Nov with the X-mas parties. I had a 5 day trip booked for the first week of Nov. Then they released the party dates, and wouldn't you know it, 3 of my 5 days the MK was gonna be closing at 6p. Fantastic.

And lord help you if you want to be there on one of those days where they are open past dusk.....you'll find out that 80k other people also for some reason wanted their park days to extend past sunset.

These parties in August are a problem. My "Summer Vacation" photos at the Magic Kingdom are fully of pumpkins and fall decor BS. Wasn't a fan then, not a fan now.

Yes!! Thank you!! This my biggest issue. I hate going to the parks when the holiday stuff is up too early. November 4th is not Christmas, August 18th isnt even labor day, let alone Halloween. I understand making money, but come on. Additionally, it packs the other parks ridiculously. Igor admits crowding issues, so this is a nice, easy, fix. Spread the holidays out! Christmas doesnt begin the day afyer Halloween, lol!!

I was in the parks Nov 4 - 9 this past year. Walk down mainatreet usa to a giant Christmas tree...i just don't get the early decorating. I understand that it makes it easier for people to see it but it's not special if it's up for so long and so early. In 2016 my wife and I were in the parks from August 23rd to the 30th not a single Halloween decoration was up. It was awesome. 2 years later completely changed.

I'm totally okay with November & Dec = holiday decor. I'm not okay with the fall decor extending into August though. 2 Months is a good amount of time for seasonal changes. You can argue the fall stuff should stay through Thanksgiving but realistically nobody is thrilled about gourds in November.

Ok, so yes holiday creep is a real problem BUT I may actually have a chance to try this party in September. Probably Sept 2. Any ideas how fast/likely that party might sell out? The trip is not 100% set in stone.

We went Labor day last year, and it seemed pretty empty to me. Anything we didn't FP for the time period before, was a pretty short wait by regular standards. It was the first time we got to meet Moana because the wait was only about 45 minutes (vs. the hours quoted years before) I feel we got a lot done that party.

I think labor day week w/ Labor day MNSSHP is my favorite week now! Plan to try to go again that time this year. Most schools are all in session that week, even with the holiday, if I do a Sat/Sun - Sat/Sun people are heading back for school Tuesday and it clears out some.

We’ve got our tickets!
Not that we did anything “wrong” last year, I feel more confident in planning this year’s experience.
Can’t wait. 🙂

I don't have much issue with the September parties. That's just logistical and it feels like fall. AUGUST 15TH is by ANY definition still summer!

While August may be a stretch for the Halloween season, it is also the only timeframe where the Halloween party is running that allows for out of state attendees to bring kids and not run afoul of school. With the Christmas Party you have Christmas break, and thanksgiving break to make plans. The sole reason we are booking our 2020 trip to Disney in August rather than our normal first week of November (Jersey Week) is that we want to get to the Halloween party with the kids, but won't pull them out of school for a week for vacation.

Indeed. And having parties twice a week in August has only a negligible impact on crowds (from someone who attended last year). Four parties per week in October is a different story altogether. Of course, the parks in general are much quieter in late August than any time in October. I’m surprised Food and Wine hasn’t moved up to an ~August 23 start.

We are going this year for the first time.... so excited to enjoy the party. Any tips?
Watch the clock. We accidentally missed the fireworks last year. 🤦🏻‍♀️ We were riding Space Mountain (in the total dark, SO AWESOME!) twice back to back, and it was only after we were rerouted OUT the FP entrance did we realize that this was because of the fireworks.

Eat BEFORE 7:00 ... unless it’s pouring rain.

Character lines are 45 mins minimum. We’re not character people, so we don’t bother; but if you or your kids have to get some of those pics - PRIORITIZE, or you will spend the whole night in lines.

The second parade is slightly less busy than the first. If you want a great view, show up early. If you’re like us and don’t really care that much, show up 10 mins before.

Do not be embarrassed about going through the same candy line over and over and over. They don’t care. You paid for it. If there is a huge line, skip it. Other locations will be a complete walk through. Philharmagic and Cosmic Rays were pure gold. Handfuls get way more generous toward the end of the night.

Do not eat 5 lbs of candy for breakfast the next morning. Seems like a good idea at the time ....

There will be many reviews and blogs leading up to the parties. For sure invest a few minutes in watching/reading Disney Tourist Blog (Tom Bricker) and Disney Food Blog (AJ Wolfe).

If you’re not using a park ticket, your party ticket gets you in at 4:00. Crowds are light all day. We specifically go to MK on party days even if we’re not staying for the party because of these lighter crowds.

To put things in perspective, Hubby and I are in our (very) early 50’s, travelling without kids, and go to WDW for 11 days every year. Our priorities may be totally different than yours. We’re there for rides and candy. 😂

Wow - Thanks for all of that!!! We go to Disney often, but not this party. Thank you again!
