Miceage: Screeching Halt - Racers To Close For Rehab

This popped up today on the front page of Miceage/Micechat, and it's self-explanatory. But those planning trips to Cars Land in mid September should take note, especially because nothing has been announced by Disney on their website or Twitter regarding a Racers closure yet:

Editor’s Note:
  • August 16, 2013: Screeching Halt: We'd told you in previous updates that the new "fall protection" standards that TDA is imposing on itself at California attractions would likely delay the long Big Thunder Mountain refurbishment, and now the word is officially out. Big Thunder Mountain will miss its original October re-opening date and is now slated to remain closed until February 15th, 2014due to re-engineering access paths to meet TDA's new fall protection standards. Radiator Springs Racers is also slated for a refurbishment the third week of September, but that hasn't shown up on the public calendars yet. Folks heading to Anaheim the third week in September shouldn't plan on Racers being open, with a public admission from Disney on that planned for next week.

Only the third week in September? Heart attack averted.

Yeah, I can only imagine the poor folks who are planning a September visit. Why hasn't TDA released these dates yet?!? Even if its just a placeholder set of dates that can be refined closer in, at least get the word out that Radiator Racers will be closed for a time in September. To do otherwise and not say anything a month out just seems... mean. Or at best, very poorly managed.

And when this rehab does get announced next week, and Radiator Racers does close for a week or so, I can only imagine the anger and fury of all those tourists staying in the 20,000 hotel rooms within walking distance of Disneyland.

Oh, wait, Disneyland is just a little, tiny locals-only park, so they can close any ride at anytime and no one will care! Tourists don't go to Disneyland, they go to Disney World!

Wow...many thanks for bringing this to my attention TP.
One of the reasons i decided to ditch WDW this September and head West instead this Autumn was to experience RSR. It would have been quite dissapointing to find out last minute that it was to be closed.

As someone earlier said, heart attack averted. I leave town right when it is slated to close.

Whew...

Really surprised regarding BTMR ....February now...? Wow...just wow.
I do hope all these new railings/safety features do not mess with the attractions original feel and look.

3rd week in September, which would put it at sometime between September 15th through the 21st.
I leave town that Sunday...so will be able to experience the attraction the week before it closes for the short refurb.

I'll be there at the same time! 9/11-9/15! I'm freaking out because the dates haven't been confirmed anywhere yet. I have been able to visit Cars Land before but the people coming with me have not and are coming specifically for that area!

Well, that just about stinks. That's the week we'll be in Disneyland and the primary reason we're going is to see CarsLand. Sure, there's other stuff there and, sure, we'll still have fun. But...I, for one, am crossing my fingers that this is just an unfounded rumor.

Fab...well if the short refurb happens during the third week, we will both be in the clear.
:)
Have a Magical time..!

I couldn't find the original information of Miceage.

Did they state a reason why it is coming to "screeching halt"?

I'm guessing it was an "Editor's Note" that sometimes appears with breaking news at the top of the page, separate from the articles. These aren't archived AFAIK. The "screeching halt" is just a punny title, I think. The refurb itself is pretty minor at only one week; Miceage has reported over the summer that some malfunctioning animatronics have been reworked and swapped out piecemeal, so I bet this refurb has to do with that.

The Editor's Note from Miceage is quoted by me in the first post of this thread. It's closing for a standard rehab, and further on Miceage last week the editors were bantering with commenters that it was due to mechanical reasons with the animatronics and ride system.

Although, I went on Racers this past weekend and the whole ride looked fantastic. Every animatronic performed perfectly, and even the funny little smoke ring effect from the tipped over tractor belched out at us as we went by. The ride looks fabulous and everything works, so not sure what they are rehabbing???

You too! I'm so excited to come back. I've always been a WDW person but my last 3 trips (and now this one) have been to DL. Just seems more fun and exciting to me lately!
Thanks.
Yes, DL has a brand of Magic all it's own.
I became hooked on that particular brand when i made my first foray to the West Coast a few years back.
I pretty much 'live' at WDW...so the change was refreshing and exciting.
I think it spoiled me.....
