Miceage: Screeching Halt - Racers To Close For Rehab

The Editor's Note from Miceage is quoted by me in the first post of this thread. It's closing for a standard rehab, and further on Miceage last week the editors were bantering with commenters that it was due to mechanical reasons with the animatronics and ride system.

Although, I went on Racers this past weekend and the whole ride looked fantastic. Every animatronic performed perfectly, and even the funny little smoke ring effect from the tipped over tractor belched out at us as we went by. The ride looks fabulous and everything works, so not sure what they are rehabbing???
I am just guessing here, but I am going to go with maintenance. You can take a car well past 3K between oil changes, but if you ignore it too long you are going to end up on the side of the road with a blown engine. I would much rather see them close it once a year and keep it at 100% then push it and end up with it getting like Splash at WDW was before its last refurb.

My completely unfounded guess is that the troublesome animatronics have been getting quick fixes and patch jobs like Miceage has been reporting, and this refurb is a more permanent fix to some of the issues that they've been having.

I rode during D23 weekend and most things looked great, but I noticed that the smoke ring wasn't working. Also saw an effect I had never seen going before, the mist in the photo tunnel. Looked great!

The refurb is now not happening.

From Micechat :

August 27, 2013: Recalibrating: The one-week September rehab for Radiator Springs Racers has now been postponed. DCA Vice President Mary Niven wisely decided the short notice they were giving September visitors of the closure was going to be a PR nightmare, and she pulled the plug on WDI's plan. The rehab to fix issues in the loading station is being postponed until either early November or January, and this time they will give plenty of notice online once the dates are decided upon.

So great news for those of you who were visiting mid September....you WILL be able to experience this great attraction after all !

:)

Good news, thanks for the Micechat quote Figments Friend!

It seems cooler heads prevailed in TDA and they'll put the rescheduled rehab dates up with at least 6 or 8 weeks notice.

In this wondrous Age Of Information, it amazes me how Disney can mess up so often on communicating vital information to their paying customers. Bravo to Mary Niven for stepping in and fixing the big mistake they were about to make.

the ongoing discussion highlighted changes for fall protection (again..) as part of the reason for the closure.
Really? I just checked MousePlanet and couldn't find a thing on their discussion boards or front page about the Racers rehab. Where's the discussion about fall protection there?

I hadn't visited MousePlanet in years and years. Fun blast from the past to see that site again. But is there a link to the discussion and/or news on the Racers rehab dates for November?

Actually looking back for the reference now.. seems I got my wires crossed with the BTMRR delay... the fall protection stuff was mentioned by Todd regarding BTMRR - not RSR. Sorry about that.

Hi, I don't post on here often, but I will be going to Disneyland for the first time Nov 2-9 and was really looking forward to experiencing RSR. We were planning on going to the parks Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday (the 4, 5, 7) but I guess we'll have to go on Friday for one of our 3 days instead since RSR will be closed Mon-Thurs. I was wondering how often the refurbs run late because I want to make sure I get to see RSR!
