Fortunately Florida has a govenor that was able to anticipate this is where HSR would end up. He has spared the state of Florida so much trouble as it turns out. I was for HSR before I was against it. Sounds like you have come to your senses too.

I replaced my hopes for HSR with the 'pocket airport' concept. That is the future I wnat to see happen.

Condemning all passenger rail because of an ill-concieved, poorly planned project in Florida is a lot like condemning all future dark rides because Journey into Your Imagination was a failure.

I was basing my judgement on Californian HSR cost estimates which jumped from 33 billion to 98 billion!!! seemingly overnight. This is exactly what Rick Scott warned would happen in Florida if he took the federal money. I don't condemn rail travel for the sake of it, I just think technological advances will leave it in the dust......if allowed to.

Pocket airports and automated flying are already technologically possible, cheaper, and friendlier to the environment. It seems inevitable.

I wouldn't be suprised to see WDW get one of the first pocket airports. (Thread drift? What thread drift?)

Edit: a new estimate raises the cost another 19 Billion for Cali's HSR and makes it a staggering 117 BILLION dollars per the story. Likely to go higher over time. Where's my checkbook?

I actually saw her at DHS back in May near the Star Tours exit. I went up and had a nice conversation with her for at least 5 minutes. We talked about how it would be nice to have some different characters in the parks and how it would be nice for MK and DHS to get new parades. She was very kind to me. I've found that most Disney execs will speak and carry on a conversation with you if you approach them with respect. You still can make your points and be courteous.

That's nice to hear. All the more reason to not consider Ms. Crofton a villain.

BTW, Drew, next time you see her, it would be very nice if you would please let her know that we all want more seasonal overlays at WDW, just like at DL, as well as a return of the Country Bear Xmas show, Lights of Winter, etc.

Did I mean I agree with all of TDO's decisions? No. If I get the chance to talk to someone that high up I'm going to mention things I care about. To be honest, I really don't care about the seasonal overlays. I know some do and that is fine, but not my cup of tea.

I've been trying to get certain characters back in the parks and that was what I mainly discussed with her.

Well they do something, but it isn't very good. The parade is poor, the decorations are very sparse, and there are no fireworks, light shows or anything of the Disney entertainment quality. It is a bare minimum. People like to complain about WDW's entertainment, but it is leaps and bounds over the competition.

It may be leaps and bounds over the competition, but I wouldn't call WDW's entertainment "Disney entertainment quality".

MK's parade gets cuts every year and is 10 years old, Wishes pales in comparison to any Disney fireworks, MSEP is old and tired. Illuminations is a solid show, but is getting old. Epcot has slashed entertainment for years now. DHS has a horrible parade and lacking Fantasmic. AK has had the same parade for how many years now?

And if you want to talk about holidays, AK has the ONLY public holiday parade in WDW. MK charges for their holiday festivities. DHS and Epcot are both OK in that front, though all parks lack the all encompassing holiday recognition that other parks, say Tokyo, have.

Speaking of LoW I recall Disney announcing that this year (2011) there would be a real replacement for LoW.... since I havent heard anything I suppose that has not happened?

Magic Kingdom presents Once Upon A Christmastime for all parks guest after the last Christmas party through to New Year's Eve. Same for Holiday Wishes.

As to the brand new attractions at MK, well, sure they're new. But there is nothing groundbreaking or special about Mermaid. It is simply a bit of a plussed dark ride that fell flatter with me in Anaheim than I expected. It ain't all that ... and worse, in O-Town they'll have FP, so instead of the typical 20-minute or less waits in Anaheim, you'll have another absurd TSMM situation. Nothing like getting a FP at 10 a.m. for a ride at 5 p.m. and waiting for a very ordinary attraction.

You are overstating the effect of Fastpass on Mermaid and you know it. Now if you made that same declaration on a lower capacity ride like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, I could see that as a possibility.

With that in mind, these two Fastpass attraction are added to a park that will already have a lengthy roster of Fastpass attractions. When both are opened, we can assume the following Fastpass attractions:
Space Mountain
Splash Mountain
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin
Peter Pan's Flight
The Many Adventures of Winne the Pooh
Dumbo the Flying Elephant
Meet Mickey Mouse
Under the Sea: Voyage of the Little Mermaid
Seven Dwarf's Mine Train

Comparatively if we were talking about adding these attractions as Fastpass rides in DHS or DAK then the effect would be different.

So what about the people who visit during the entire month of November and almost all of December?

Exactly.

They get screwed!

I'm going to DLP in two weeks and they offer Christmas themed parades, shows, and events FREE to all passholders, ticketed guests, etc and it includes the evening parade, and christmas fireworks, christmas desert and candy, etc all included in the normal ticket or pass.

Well since most people complain that WDW start the holidays way to early as it is, and it shouldn't begin until after thanksgiving, that gives a period of about 2 weeks before the parade and fireworks are released to the masses.

But obviously, there is a lot of entertainment that begins this week that is available to all.

- Osbornes
- Peace on Earth IllumiNations
- Holiday storytellers
- Candlelight
- Magic Memories holiday edition
- Jammin Jungle
- Cinderella's Holiday Wish
- Park and resort decor
