McD's in MGM

Walt Disney World, in my opinion, has done a very good job in seeing to it that if people want to eat heathier foods that they are available in the parks. Over the last ten years I have seen Disneys menus go from strictly burgers and fried foods, to a much wider selection. There is even a book out now about eating healthy at Walt Disney World. Unfortunately. fast food is what the people want. Moderation is the key here. McDonalds is not shoving food down anyones throat or forcing anyone to eat there. If more people would educate their children on the benifits of healthy eating and trying to maintain a balanced diet then this problem might go away. The schools here in America have Coke machines in the halls and fast food burgers available at lunches every day. The fact that McDonalds has sold BILLIONS of burgers over the years should attest to it's popularity. I watch what my children eat, I limit their visits to Fast food restaurants, and as a parent, it is my responsibility to see that my kids eat right. I don't think we should blame McDonalds for serving greasy burgers.I think we should blame the PARENTS for allowing their children to eat there 5 nights a week.

Whilst I agree that parents take the ultimate resposibilty for what their children eat, in places like wdw if companies like Mc.D's are allowed to slowly infiltrate and take over food concessions then the good quality and wide ranging foods available will slowly dissapear. We all know that wdw is now run by accountants and if corporate partners like Mc.D's want a slice of the wdw action and dig deep in their pockets to pay for the action the Eisner brigade will snap up the option, after all who gives a damn who's dishing up the grub if there is plenty of cash flowing into the coffers to finance the annual bonuses, need I say more.

at first i was anti mcdonalds.after going to the parks and seeing that they r tastefully done i had no problem with that as long as they r in moderate numbers around the property.we all joke about the place-when i was a kid there was a rumor about plastic being put in milkshakes but they r a top quality operation- they have billions of dollars at stake-do u really think they will risk that for saving some money on road kill or horse meat?-i dont.
keep in mind mcdonalds like disney is known worldwide as a big part of american life and it is the biggest and fasted growing compnay in the f and b industry.
i tell u this as i munch on a quarter pounder with cheese(no oinions);)

I couldn't agree more with you Jay.

The problem is that to eat healthily it tends to cost more than your average McD's than in the other restaurants in WDW.

Fairfax Fries in MGM (pictured above) only sells Frech Fries, same as the cart in Magic Kingdom in Frontierland. Only DAK has more than fries from McDonald's, but they still don't serve the full menu. There are no full McDonald's restaurants inside any of the parks. The only 2 on property are in Downtown Disney Marketplace, and over near the All-Star resorts.

If you don't like McDonalds...don't eat it. Walk right PAST it and eat somewhere else. Most people I know like McDonalds.
It's a vacation, a holiday...give your self a break from health foods and live it UP a little. It's only for a few days. After that you can go home eat all the tofu and lean cuisine you want. While I'm in Disney World I eat Mickey Mouse ice cream bars and greasy chicken strips and fish and chips and burgers and baked potatos smothered in sour cream and butter. ::drooling:: Then I go home and eat sensibly again...but hey..I thought that's what vacations were for...having a good time and not worrying about things...but hey...perhaps I'm wrong ::shrug::

Yes, DAK is for Disney's Animal Kingdom. There, they have chicken nuggets in addition to french fries, but not too much more. You can even get a 'Value Meal' with fries and nuggets for only 3 times what it costs at a normal McD's! :)

cor what a selection :hammer:

i did think it would be good if disney forced them not to overcharge but then the price would be a lot lower than their own restaurants and more people wouldn't eat there

The "high" price of food at WDW has been a sore point for many people, especially anyone who has not gone to other Florida "resort" areas.

We are members of a beach club which is also a resort, and their prices are equivalant or higher than Disney's for food of equal or lesser quality, plus a "tip" is automatically added...I rarely eat there anymore, because of this. This is fairly typical of all "resort" areas. It is just bothersome, since this is a family destination, but i assume Disney has the same sort of expenses as any other resort.

If you are talking about "Donald's" restaurant in Dinoland, they sell burgers, too...

I'm with you, Scooter! Vacation is a time to indulge. By the way, no one, not even Disney, have better french fries than McDonald's and I only get to eat them when I am on vacation! :p

Having Mc Donalds on site will raise food revenue substantially. Knowing disney they will have followed two options.
One: Allowed Mc Donalds to come in onsite and deliver the product and give Disney a percentage.
Two: Running the sites themselves as franchises would allow greater revenue.

Remember themeparks are into secondary spend big style and food is one of the top earners. Having them on site is a massive recognition of a product that is known World Wide.

Wether you like them or not most people would go for a Big Mac and Fries.

McDonald's is (and has been for a long time, now) a major promotional partner of Disney's. This is the reason for their (increasing) presence in the parks. While of course it brings in more money, it is also an issue of respecting the partnership. Just as Disney only sells Coke products, Kodak film, etc.

Well, I guess i'm a bit biased, (my family owns and operates i think 12 McDonalds here in the Chicago suburbs...Dad's been in the business for 40 years now) but i really don't have a problem with the Mcd's in the parks. I guess you can to look at it from the algle that since Disney switched over to each restrauant having it's own Head Chef, (instead of only a few chef's runing multiple ratraunts) you may be able to see it as a money saving procedure on Dinsey's part. Wow, that was a heck of a sentence. I apologize. Anyways, those are just that many places that Disney just doesn't really have to worry about running. It's on someone elses shoulders. Now I've been to WDW some 28 or so times,a nd at no time in my life can i remember particularily liking Disney's "fast food." That's all jsut my opinion tho I guess......
