Mcdonalds at the parks

I just cringe when I see a line at the McDonalds locations. With all the different food options available to them, people line up for Mickey D's. It doens't bother me as much in other places than it does at Epcot. You are at the beginning of the World Showcase and a stones throw to any country and its wonderful cuisine and you want something you can get anywhere. Its just sad.

I know what you mean, but there must be a few people without ADRs who are less than pleased with the options available. For the great food at Epcot, you need to book in advance, and a lot of people won't realise it. I bet a few of the people at the McD's have probably walked all around trying to find somewhere to eat, and failed.

Or they are Florida residents who decided that day to hit the park. We never really plan in advance with ressies cause never sure if that is where we ill go on days off. But then I have never eaten McDs at Disney and don't think I ever even notice where you can get the fries. LOL Would be my last choice.

But there are counter service at most of the countries (except Italy and Canada, I think) where people can eat without getting a reservation. I guess some people just want someting to fill their stomach.

McDonald's wanted full locations in the park but Disney wouldn't allow it as they wanted their own CS options to be the draw and therefore bring in revenue. They still wanted a good relationship with McDonald's though, in order to use their kid meals for movie promotions, so they allowed them the DTD location and the one near AK in addition to fries stands in the park.

As to how food is prepared in different parts of the US, here in NJ the breakfast Burito's are quite mild, but out in Colorado Springs I made a mistake and ordered the same thing and found out they use hot peppers in theirs . Just about burned my mouth out. But then again I'm not a fan of spices. So that was a wakeup call.

Well, we were in line for McDonald's at Epcot while we were there, and here's why...

My 7yo son is type 1 diabetic and on a type of insulin that forces him to eat certain amounts of carbohydrates 6 times a day. In the WS, even in the American pavilion and even at counter service restaurants, it is quite nearly impossible to get an accurate carb count on anything served. Their "nutrition guidebooks" are a complete joke. Thank goodness for that McDonald's, where I know that 4 chicken McNuggets and a small order of fries is 45 grams of carbohydrates, whether it's in WDW or anywhere else in the country.

I guess my point is that unless you know the story of every person in that line, maybe you shouldn't just shrug them all off as "Philistines with absolutely no taste."

as for food varying across the country.. well mcdonalds is a great example. here in NY we dont put mustard on our burgers and our apple pies are made differently. I know everywhere else in the country puts mustard on their cheese burgeres but for some reason not here.

When a 4 year old wants chicken nuggets , sometimes you just have to buy the silly nuggets.....my older kids will go along with the cuoscous, the little one's like thier nuggets .....

I had a food meltdown similar to Merf's when I was in Japan. You get tired of getting "pizza" that features eel skins and corn and other weird things. So, I saw a Mickey D's and went in. Almost everything was different, so it didn't help much. I found this website that shows some of the weird Mickey D's options from around the globe. Actually, it would be interesting if some WS countries had Mickey D's that specialized in odd stuff like this.

Oooooh! I love this. I have so much to say about McDonald's at Disney!

A couple disclaimers.

1. I love McDonalds. I REALLY do. Burgers, fries, everything.:slurp:

2. I mean no offense to anyone who for whatever reason likes having McDonalds food available in the parks. To each their own.

I HATE, HATE, HATE that McDonalds exists at any Disney park, or resort.

That distinctive smell (which I love) absolutely rips me out of my illusion that I am somewhere ELSE. I love the immersive nature of a Disney park. It transports me around the world to amazing real and unreal places. Until I smell McDonalds. At that point, I am back to dull reality. I also hate that my child can detect that smell and then I have to listen to her talk about McDonalds. This also ruins the illusion for me. And it causes an argument.
I don't allow any chain restaurant food when we travel. Once she gets that whiff, she wants it. I say no. Argument. It's over quick, as we've always had a policy about this sort of thing. Giving in always seems to lead to more demanding, but that's another subject.

I also hate that the Mcdonald's fod isn't disguised with a different name, or at least different Disney specific packaging. Takes away more illusion.

And the biggest offender is Burger Invasion, which actually looks just like a McDonalds inside. Hate it.

When I go on vacation ANYWHERE, I take a vacation from my usual food as well. WDW has so many great places to get something different. And as virtually every place has some type of kid's meal that most kids will eat (including Mickey shaped nuggets which I will tolerate once or twice)it isn't really a problem to find places to eat. I encourage everyone to try as much different food as possible.

I'm different in that this idea of familiar, comfort food is not for me. But I do understand how many others might.

Now, since I am NOT at WDW right now, I believe I will go get me some Mickey D's for lunch!:slurp:
