I am so upset right now..we have a massive snow/ice water leak in our 3 season room( also happens to be our childrens school room).. so much damage.. my husband is pricing it all out to fix but if it goes over the cash we have on hand I am going to have to cancel our trip in August.. I am literally sick over this.. I hate winter!

We came home last night to hear drip, drip, drip down in our basement. Evidently our downspout on the southwest corner was frozen. We own a 12 unit apartment building and live there as well. Short version of the story is this morning we shoveled off from 2 feet to 4 feet of snow from the roof (it is almost flat) on that end of our building and uncovered the drain area. Then we got a heat tape and wrapped the downspout (as our other ones are), after thawing it out with hubby's welding torch and hot water, so we dodged another bullet hopefully. Sorry to hear about your leak though. It sounds like you got the bullseye. We have lived here over 30 years and this south side of our building has never been a problem freezing before because it faces the sun, so it was quite a bad surprize. Although we did have the north side freeze many years ago, and it leaked in and ruined 4 ceilings in the front apartments, so I know what you are going through. By the way if your ceiling just gets stained and not destroyed just get a spray bottle and fill it with equal parts of bleach and water (1/2 bleach & 1/2 water). Spray the stain and usually it will disappear. Also, sorry to hear that your trip may be in jeopardy, but hopefully your insurance can help with the fix.

Insurance will cover some..maybe..but not all..

The room is aluminum so no staining..but the water is IN the walls.. that damage will not be covered.. interior possessions and such should be..

Ugh- that's AWFUL! We've been in sort of a similar situation. Our dog flooded the first floor of our house and while the insurance would cover some of it- meeting the deductible is part of the problem. Our total damages were just below our deductible. Then on top of that- these days- even if you have good insurance - you risk losing it if you make a significant claim. Our dog flooding issue kept us from traveling to Alaska

Good luck with everything! Hope it all works out well!

Yep..

well keep some good vibes coming..we got the carpet up and not as much subflooring is wet as we thought..the super thick berber carpet and ulta thick pad got a good chunk of the water. Both of those are a loss.. but if we have managed to "fix" the issue ( will know soon as we have 20-28 inches of nasty winter precipitation on it's way) then we will just put laminate flooring down.. which means we will not have to file a claim ( this will be cheaper than our deductible ) and except for no new reef tank we will be set. IF the walls are damaged then all bets are off.. we shall see in the next few days..

Alison,
If there is ANY way of scaling back your trip so its affordable, you will need to take it NO MATTER WHAT! Because when August rolls around and you are sitting at home, you will be so mad you could tear that room down with your bare hands! LOL! Also, if you do have to do some costly reno, then a trip to the happiest place on earth is just the right remedy, it will take you away from all of the hardship at home! GO VISIT MICKEY and the GANG!

That's just my opinion and I understand. How would you like to plan a Disney Trip for the past 11 years and always cancel!? But we are going in December 2012...only 670 Days left! Woo Hoo!:sohappy:

I hope everything got worked out for you!

We had to cut our WDW trip 4 days short last week when we got the last storm. We had to rent a car and drive home, all 22 hours (we live 45 minute south of Boston) because there were no flights available because the storm had caused so many cancellations :( It was the first time I had to leave a WDW trip early. And we got to come home to our bedroom and living room floors soaked, the ceiling in the living room collapsed and the walls bubbled up with water. The worst part was getting in the car and it was 79 degrees, and seeing the outdoor temp thermometer drop the further north we got... when we got here, we were at 12 degrees, and this....

Not fun :( I hope your homeowners will cover it (we have been so fortunate that ours is). I guess this is happening all over the state. My husband says now that the floors, walls and ceilings will be new, we can sell the house and move to Florida lol. Seriously though, I really hope it all works out for you and you can enjoy your trip!
