Am I the only one who wishes that Mary Poppins was more prominently featured in Disney parks? Wildly successful movie, helplessly takes you back to your childhood... I can't imagine any movie I'd rather see a ride for than this one. Does anyone agree? I'd also like to see more merchandise. I think the only thing I saw last time I was there was a mug. Surely it's still very popular/money maker?

I am a HUGE Mary Poppins, and Lady and the Tramp fan, it is very difficult to find any merchandise for either. Though apparently Mary Poppins has a horse on the carsouel at DL and she and her band ride it everyday, it's pretty awesome!

Uma Thurman?
How about Kate Winslet as Mary Poppins?
Johnny Depp could play Bert, or has he done too much Disney already?
You would have to have Mr. Van in the movie; he would make a great Admiral Boom.
Who would play Mr. & Mrs. Banks? Some couples that come to mind are Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson.

I agree. I was thrilled to have a chance to see her at 1900 Park Fare for breakfast though last October. She was so prim and proper - exactly what I'd expected! The Mad Hatter displayed the exact opposite of her behavior and such fun as well at that breakfast!:)

I love Mary too!! I saw her at Epcot in the UK Pav in March and I was so happy. :sohappy: Of course, the line was ridiculous. That should tell Disney something.

I completely agree. Mary Poppins is one of my favorite Disney movies and has rich characters, songs, and settings that would be a perfect fit for a Fantasyland dark ride - especially now that it's expanding. I do enjoy seeing Mary in Spectro and the afternoon parade, but IMO she deserves a ride! Of course, if they did it as a musical show I'd really enjoy that as well!

Also, I always get goosebumps when I hear the Cinderella's Golden Carousel band organ arrangement of "Feed the Birds", which I consider one of the most beautiful songs ever written -not just out of Disney songs, but ANY song! (it's even in my signature ;) )

There are a LOT of old Disney movies that I would like to see incorporated into the parks somehow - Mary Poppins, Lady and the Tramp, The Love Bug, The Ugly Dachsund, Flubber and Son of Flubber . . . maybe DHS??

I've often wondered why a Mary Poppins ride wasn't established after the success in 1964. You think Walt would have added that to Disneyland but he didn't. If he did, then you can be sure it would have been in MK in 1971. The success of Small World at the World's Fair forced them to build a ride, why not Poppins?

Anyways, I've said this before but a Bambi ride is something I have always liked the idea of seeing. Probably too late for that now, since if it were to be added it would have been there in 1971.

Anyways, speaking of Julie Andrews here she is in MK in 1971

I agree. Lady and the Tramp is one of my favorite Animated Classics and I'm surprised it doesn't have more of a presence in the parks, considering the movie is popular enough in sales over the years to have been part of the "Platinum Edition" series on DVD. I don't even think they've ever had Lady or Tramp as walk-around characters. If they ever did, I've never seen them. I do enjoy seeing their paw prints in the pavement in front of Tony's in Town Square!

Speaking of Herbie the Love Bug, I really enjoy his cameo appearance in Lights, Motors, Action. He comes out for a little while, but then he has to "split"! ;)

Obviously, the movie is still wildly popular but it seems like Disney almost needs to do something after the popularity of the Broadway musical. I would LOVE to see live stage production in MK comparable to how they've handled Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Nemo, etc. Even better- I would LOVE LOVE LOVE it if some parts of the show were sing-a-longs, maybe even where people were pulled from the audience.

I really hope we can track her down during our December trip b/c our older daughter has started asking to see Mary Poppins.

Oh- and side note...no- please no- on the Uma Thurman playing Mary. I actually think Reese Witherspoon might make a very cute Mrs. Banks.

Because, most likely, Disney doesn't own the theme park rights to the property.* T.L. Travers is publicly known to have despised Disney...she hesitantly allowed them to make the movie, which she hated. She most certainly wouldn't have given them the theme park rights. She would have made J.K. Rowling look like a pushover!

*Note
Disney doesn't even own the stage rights for the property. Disney was only able to produce it because Cameron Macintosh, who actually OWNS the stage rights, didn't think it would be accepted without the Disney score, but the storyline was completely re-worked for the West End ("Scary Poppins) and totally ruined for Broadway.

I would love to see Mary Poppins represented also. She is mMy sister in laws absolute favorite and I have always been a HUGE fan too. I remember when I was in kindergarten (1973 wow eons ago LOL) we had a huge spring musical at our school and all grade levels were involved. We sang the songs from Mary Poppins. I told my Mom I didn't know what a Mary Poppins was and that Saturday my Father took my two older sisters and myself to the matinee to see it. Apparently it was in a re-release at that time. I remember loving it! I also remember I fell asleep at the end and it was years before I ever got to see the end ROFL

I'm glad I'm not alone here! I remember feeling almost starstruck when I saw her at the Grand Floridian for a character breakfast. I wasn't lucky enough to be in the restaurant, just saw her through the door. I literally felt starstruck! I mean, #1 Mary Poppins is a character. #2, it wasn't even Julie Andrews! That just goes to show you what an impact she had on me.
