Mary Poppins

I agree that Mary Poppins is a great Disney character that the parks do not use to it's full potential.

I would love to see a MP darkride. Anything more than a meet and greet would be great.

Because, most likely, Disney doesn't own the theme park rights to the property.* T.L. Travers is publicly known to have despised Disney...she hesitantly allowed them to make the movie, which she hated. She most certainly wouldn't have given them the theme park rights. She would have made J.K. Rowling look like a pushover!

*Note
Disney doesn't even own the stage rights for the property. Disney was only able to produce it because Cameron Macintosh, who actually OWNS the stage rights, didn't think it would be accepted without the Disney score, but the storyline was completely re-worked for the West End ("Scary Poppins) and totally ruined for Broadway.

Actually, it's P.L. Travers (Pamela L. Travers).

Anywho - I bet if Disney threw enough money their way, they might give up the rights to Disney. However, I can't see Disney actually putting out that kind of money just for a theme park ride. I must say, I'm even surprised they can use the character in the parks at all!

I think I remember reading that in Walt's very early proposals for the Florida's Magic Kingdom, dark rides for Mary Poppins and Ichabod Crane would replace some of those featured in Disneyland. But after his death and the subsequent scaling-down of the property plans, the concepts were replaced with clones of the Disneyland dark rides instead.

Ah, if only if only. If we had a Poppins dark ride instead of Mr. Toad, do you think people would miss Mr. Toad as much?

Am I the only one who wishes that Mary Poppins was more prominently featured in Disney parks? Wildly successful movie, helplessly takes you back to your childhood... I can't imagine any movie I'd rather see a ride for than this one. Does anyone agree? I'd also like to see more merchandise. I think the only thing I saw last time I was there was a mug. Surely it's still very popular/money maker?

It may only be because I haven't seen MP in a long time, but I can't think of a way that they would incorporate the movie into a ride. What are you thinking they could do?

I think I'll have to watch it again tonight.
