Marvel Land Discussion and Rumors

With the exception of Spider-Man, which until recently was outside of the MCU/Marvel/Disney and didn't have much control over, there have been no reboots in the MCU. Marvel/Disney has no real control over those Marvel properties released outside of the MCU, such as those produced by Fox.

Also the main reason why the MCU has done so well IS the fact they are reusing the same characters. Its the same reason why TV shows and book series have long running fan bases. It gives them a chance to build the character that can't usually be done in a single 2 hour movie.

I guess I just have reboot fatigue in general.

Yeah I understand the approach and why they re doing it but when does the audience start to get bored? At least with Star Wars, it's one per year, which is still pushing it. But with Marvel, what is it, at least 2 movies per year with overlapping characters and not much variety. GOTG is the only franchise I've seen lately that doesn't feel tired.

Just wait. They're gonna be in A3, and GOTG 3.

I think a lot of people are tired of the reboots of reboots of reboots. That is why I'm hoping the rumors of Disney buying up Fox comes true. Presumably the Fox distributed Marvel properties would be part of that deal, as well as the distribution rights for the original SW trilogy. So hopefully that will bring back all of Marvel properties back under one house again.

As for the audiences getting bored, I don't see that happening anytime soon. Thor Ragnarok is already hitting the 500m mark worldwide, with over $140 opening here in the US. As long as Marvel/Disney continues to bring in new fresh innovative directors and writers I don't see it changing.

The only thing working against the Marvel thing is the contracts with the actors. Most only agreed to a certain number of films. And re-upping that will cost Dis many many monies.

I haven't read up on the Disney acquiring Fox thing. Though just imagining Disney doing their own versions of FF and X-Men strikes me as interesting.

The last I heard the only actors not locked up to a long term deal is RDJ and Chris Evans, with the latter wanting to direct. However with other people taking up the Iron Man and Capt America handles in the comics, its not hard to explain in the MCU.

The Disney/Fox talks were leaked this morning, talks are said to have currently stopped. But knowing Disney/Iger if its a deal worth doing they will keep at it. And with the recent Fox issues I wouldn't think its such a bad thing for them to attach themselves to a family brand. However the news division wouldn't be part of the deal as I understand it.

But yes, it would be interesting to see Disney/Marvel doing versions of the Fox/Marvel properties. Having them them back all under one house is something I'm sure Disney has dreamed of and been working towards since buying Marvel.

True. I do foresee us seeing different incarnations of certain heroes in the future.

And if the deal does get done, does that mean Fox properties become IP-fodder for the parks????
Bye bye Buzz Lightyear, hello Alien v Predator attraction!!!!

I doubt that you would see something extreme like that property. But yeah if the deal goes through I could see some of Fox properties being used in the parks. You actually already have one with Avatar. So other family friendly properties such as that could find there ways into the parks at some point after a deal gets done.

I caught this story today and my first thought was if the deal goes through what will be the long-term impact on P&R. :greedy: Should be pretty substantial considering Fox's cache of films. Just imagine Disney could potentially own The Exorcist! Imagine THAT IP as a TOT overlay hahaha.

Wellllll yeah. I was just wishful thinking/joking. Maybe they have a third gate for the PG-13/R-rated franchises lol.

The possibilities are endless.

If that does become reality, they will NEED a third gate like no ones business.

Pretty much, considering that they'll do just about anything to insert valuable Studio IP wherever they can at their resorts.
