No its too early to say but what would probably happen would maybe be a re theming of these rides when their contracts end, or theyll just pay disney to keep them open

Disney can't simply move the Universal attractions. They're Universal's, not Marvel's. Disney would have to create their own. As for what will happen to Marvel Superhero Island, I honestly have no idea. It would be a complete shame if they were forced to close it though.

Disney will do a good job with Marvel I think. Whetherits movies, the parks, whatever. I always thought Marvel should be with Disney anyway, and DC with Universal.

Universal isn't some stupid small company that can be taken advantage of... I'm sure they thought of this possibility (not particularly Disney, but some other company buying out Marvel) when they were creating the "island" in the first place. Much like Six Flags has a 50 year exclusive agreement with the DC Universe, I'm guessing Universal has a comparably long exclusive agreement with Marvel. Meaning, while Disney may will essentially get some dough from Marvel merchandise sales, I highly doubt that any of the Marvel rides will be forced to close or be rethemd in any way.

Agreed, this is the same post I've been making everywhere else. Their contract doesn't just go null and void because there's a new owner in town. Its still in place under whatever terms it had previously. Only when that contract expires (and I'm certain its probably a long term one) would this become an issue for Universal, at least with the current rides. Who knows what this would do to expansion of the Universe of characters there however.

While the details of Universal's contract aren't known to us pertaining to the newly acquired Disney characters, don't you think the mouse won't have a problem taking a paycheck from it's biggest competitor here in town?

You know Marvel gets a cut from merchandise sold and from other forms of revenue at Universal, so now, that money is going down I 4 to Disney.

I think the sell won't do anything to Universal for a while, and a while meaning years, and as far as we know, you won't tell a difference at Universal.

Heading for the great escape.
Not only will the Marvel area be closed Universal will be closing with immediate effect. People who previously purchased any Marvel character merchandise will have to pay Disney $1 an item, or alternatively surrender their soul to the mouse.

I think you guys are missing the BEAUTIFUL detail of this deal.

Anyone who travels around Orlando or watches Universal's commercials knows that Universal's marketing is 75% Spiderman and Hulk.

By making the affair public, now everytime someone sees hulk in the next ten years will think DISNEY BOUGHT THAT. And Cast Members will note that Universal and Disney are mixed up by THOUSANDS of visitors a week.

Now when they drive down I-4 and see a Billboard with the Hulk that says SCREAM LOUDER....

Where do you bet they'll think that stuff is?

Considering that the average tourist isn't going to be obsessing over this news, and that there's a big "Universal Orlando" logo on those billboards... they'll think it's at Universal.

Ah, you'd be surprised, people go into MK or TDS all the time looking for Universal attractions - I've seen it happen and so have many other people on the forum. You also find people who assume the Universal parks ARE Disney parks and get upset when their Disney passes don't work in Uni turnstiles. Does it happen with a large percentage of guests? I'm sure it doesn't, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happens at least once a day, either.

Exactly!! Many hardcore fans on this site kind of think in a vacuum and assume that the rest of the world follows this stuff just as closely as we do. (That's why at least once a month or so, there is a thread on here where fans are venting their frustrations about guests who travel all the way to WDW without first knowing every nuance of the place.) On this site, there are numerous threads, in numerous forums, about this news and it would definitely qualify as a "top headline" here. But out in the "real" world, it is barely a footnote on most news sites.

Sorry, this is completely false. I had girl friends, who wouldn't know Marvel from a hole in the ground coming up to me yesterday talking to me about it.

People are going to realize this happened. People are going to remember that Mickey owns Spidey.

Now, what this has to do with Uni, probably nothing for a good 10 years.

The fact that your friends came to speak to you (someone who is presumably known as a hardcore Disney fan to all of your friends) about this does not make my statement "completely false". I don't know about you, but I'm known as the "Disney" guy at my work and within my circle of friends. So any time Disney is even remotely mentioned in the news, I'll have people coming up to me asking what I think about it. That doesn't mean that they are going to even remember it a day later most of the time. People won't remember this. In the non-Disney-fan world, this is not "big news" like it is on this site. Forgive me, but you need to get out more if you think it is.

This is the kind of thing that's so unusual, you just watch. I feel bad for the Spiderman cast members out there in the heat with that guest striking up conversation...People remember these sorts of things, and the sight of Disney Parks or Marvel Characters will bring this unusual story up in conversation alot.

Granted yes it's speculative discussion, but only an idiot wouldn't give it significant weight and consideration.

And of course most guests will know Universal and Studios, but if you've worked at either of the parks a DAY IN YOUR LIFE you'd know that seems unavoidable.

But seriously, how much do you want to bet that Spiderman and Hulk will factor less and less in Universal's advertising in the coming years?

[And of course it's big news. You really have no idea the power of the Geek. It's like Fight Club, they're all around you every day of your life whether you know it not, and they'll remember this and are looking for gain from it. Heck, I only follow a few followers that actually know Disney, and yesterday my twitter inbox was FILLED with opinions on it. Normal People, Geeks, Celebrities, Directors, Otaku, Cast Members. Marvel is a big deal, and Disney is famous for being a conglomocorp that owns everything.]
