Marvel at WDW

Expand where? Have you been to Superhero Island?....they can't go beyond Superhero Island. You've got a land about the size of Liberty Square that already has 4 attractions. They don't have the room........unless they build up. Which I guess is an option.

They can start taking over attractions based on cartoon characters that only senior citizens have ever heard of.

The idea of tearing down a pretty much abandoned amphitheater is considered reaching?

For the purpose of slightly expanding Marvel? A franchise you do not own. A franchise that is going to be built out in another theme park much better that you could ever dream of - because of the limitations you have. So let's say you make that unwise decision and commit funds to do that. Now what?

Yeah...if they did that - it would reek of desperation. Thus...reaching for straws. If they do something with that amphitheater they'd be better served avoiding Marvel.

On his last podcast, Lou Mongello described the acquisition of Marvel as being possibly the most significant event in Disney history!

Further, in his New Year look back at 2017 he seemed to spend half the airtime talking about Marvel (mainly the movies)

Now, I get that Lou was already a comic book fan as well as being a massive Disney fan, but I would have thought that this intersection of the Venn diagram would be pretty small?

I have a feeling that once Disney get the full green light on putting Marvel into WDW we're going to go into a period of several years where almost every WDW major announcement will involve Marvel going into the parks. I’m not looking forward to this as I’m not really a Marvel fan.

Is this just me?
Are we getting punk’d? How many times are we going to have to...oh never mind. It will never end.

Much of the park is already stuff Universal does not own and it will not be long before most of the lands are not owned by Universal. The new park is also going to have big new stuff not owned by Universal. Universal Parks & Resorts doesn’t care.

Don't know about the cheapest. But I get the point. At the end of the day it comes down to business decision for both Disney and Uni.

1. We see Uni recognizing that "we've got a shelf life with this...and the clock keeps ticking" .... plus it inhibits us to grow in that space..
There’s enough space for a good few years yet. Options include the Doom tower area or the Lagoon theatre area - both which have been looked at for expansion.

Not anytime soon.

I don't think anyone can pinpoint the timing. Based on your posts it seems we agree that it is an eventuality. Call it a year, or two, or five. But it is going to happen. Too much money at stake for it not to. So Uni's Expansion at this time is "hey...we can cram a ride over there....or we can replace this ride with that one"? We're talking semantics now.

Surely you of all people....can see a day where WDW announces Marvel Land. Not today, not tomorrow.....but in the near future.

Their flagship lands are licensing deals with AT&T.

I don't care about the "Flagship Lands". This is about Marvel. Disney, Superhero Island, the contract, and why Uni expanding Marvel's presence in IOA really doesn't make much sense. Sure...they could...they might in a limited way.....but it's not the right move.

You don’t seem to care about any of the actual context as it all points to what Universal has publicly stated during their investor calls, that they have no interest in dropping the license.

With the popularity of Marvel products, both the MCU Avengers and what Sony did with X-Men and Spider-Man, how can it not be the right move? It's a hot property that they're licensing on the cheap. They should have been growing Superhero Island starting 6 years ago.

While Universal attempts to push their own IPs synergistically, they don't have a deep bench that fits family parks and rely on licensing. Potterland and Nintendo will dwarf any of their own IPs and they seem resigned to that.

Of course they are going to say that........They want a boatload of money. Do you really think they are going to tell their shareholders that they are "just going to give it to Disney?" This is all going to be a negotiation. They should be telling their shareholders that Marvel has a future in their parks.

Agree.

Agree. They missed their window. They can't decide now "hey we're just going to turn IOA into Superhero Island Park and everything will be Marvel."

I'll concede that if they want to make a limited expansion....and build rides on top of each other or re-theme existing Marvel rides to new Marvel rides....sure. But your not going to hear an announcement that Superhero island is doubling in size and here are all the great brand new Marvel rides that are coming.

Nope. From what I know its not happening. To think otherwise at the moment would be delusional.
