Marty Sklar Steps Down

Those "strategists" probably noticed DAK was becoming "the disney version of a zoo" rather than a theme park around the concept of animals and found it unnecessary to build a land so drastically different from the others when in truth it was an important component of the Animal Kingdom concept.

Quite so. DAK was supposed to be a theme park dedicated to ALL animals broken down into three catagories: Real, Imaginary, and Extinct. We got the extinct and we got the real but the imaginary isnt there! Some will say Camp mini-mickey and Expedition Evereset fill the void but in my opinion it doesnt work. Everytime I walk into DAk and I see those dragon heads mounted over the enterance and the Big dragon on the DAK logo and benches I am constantly reminded that the park is only "two thirds built".

I agree about Everest not filling the void. Sure the Yeti is potentially imaginary but it is situated on an area so real that it takes away the imaginary aspect of it (not that it's a bad thing). A Yeti does not equal Dragons, Unicorns and the collection of mythical beasts of european lore.

Quite right. To the people of Tibet and Nepal, the Yeti is quite real, and in Expedition Everest it is being portrayed as a real creature. It is not meant to "fill the void", and so it does not accomplish that task.

Camp "the bound-to-happen budget cuts made it what it is today: non existent" Minnie-Mickey

I know that DAK was supposed to be about animals real imaginary and extinct, who would have thought that the land that represents the imaginary part is also imaginary.

I never said Marty Sklar is the reason Beastly Kingdom never happened I was just making a made up example to illustrate that he didnt pay attention and would fall asleep during important presentations.

You have no knowledge of the events that took place. Obviously your example was made up, but you are still trying to say that a man you don't know didn't pay attention and fell asleep during meeting you did not attend. Be careful. You can get yourself in a ton of trouble when you start making things up about people.

He didn't make that up... Jim Hill did.

Now concerning Beastly Kingdom all I know is that it was originally pushed back to phase two of AK because the animal expenses (facility, care, etc.) went over budget and then I was told by a legitimate Imagineer that Beastly Kingdom was cancelled by Strategic Planning because it was deemed an "unnecessary expense". I never said Marty Sklar is the reason Beastly Kingdom never happened I was just making a made up example to illustrate that he didnt pay attention and would fall asleep during important presentations.
Hotels do make money... loads of money, Wether you like the idea or not...
WWS Does make money and alot more than you ever can imagine...
But It's YOU who doesn't need it, and don't act like you're representing other guests...
And about BK, Indeed The project was canceled due to exceeding Budgets...
After building EPCOT we couldn't afford another BIG faillure again...
EPCOT had a cost estimate of $1.2 billion and went with an overrun of several hundred million dollars.

And buidling a new park for your sake (oh, sorry you're representing every guest) is not the way it works...

Welcome to adult life...

If you've got so much to complain, DON'T visit at all... please...

Again I see you're attacking Marty with you're so-called "illustrating"
You're instigating! (hey! I can do that too)
You read too many gossip stories, listen too much to unreliable "Imagineers"...
Which seems to become a habit nowadays.
These days everyone seems to "know" an imagineer... (my foot!)

I've never seen Marty Nor Michael fall asleep during some presentation...

You're a typical "guest"" who believes the first moron he meats...

And I'll stop waiting my time on you... have a nice life...

I predicted Marty would step down, although Disney management denies the relation to Lasseter's pending arrival. Even Marty himself predicted this...
And a whole lot of others will follow Marty...

And Sorry Ghostbuster, you really don't know anything about this...
There never has been a more loyal man in the whole company... and yes he opposed, like me (and most of Creative) to the Save Disney Campaign mayhem... for obvious reasons...

So, if you think Marty was so-so for the company, you're offending Marty, me and the whole Creative dept. and that hurts...
But somehow I can't blame you, you're just a victim of the media, and instigating shouting... and you have much to learn about Creative and the WDC...
Believe what you want, but I really should advise you, to stop offending people, who really meant something for all the parks, and the WDC.

They deserve better, much better, and instigating posts on forums, which only show lack of respect are not wanted nor needed...

I bet Jim Hill will have an article about this proposed attraction tommorow morning
Doubt it.

Tomorrow's a Sunday, and JHM doesn't do Sunday articles  .

Yensid "SPECIAL SUNDAY ARTICLE: Stitch to Replace Pirates in recent rehab.
Everyone has heard about the rehabs of both Disneyland's and Walt Disney World's Pirates of the Caribbean attractions, but are they changing more than once thought? Jim Hill shares some insight.

Wow. Wow. Wow.

Just when I thought the Pirates of the Caribbean updates couldn't get any more drastic, I get proven wrong. And let me tell ya folks, that doesn't happen often.

Over the past couple months the staff here at Jim Hill Media has done their best to keep you up to date with the gong-ons of the rehab that both American versions of Pirates of the Caribbean are about to recieve. I've had sources telling me for months that jack Sparrow and Barbossa are due to invade this classic attraction in the coming months. However, My souces have been wrong. I myself am aghast.

I have recently recieved new information that Jack Sparrow is not invading POTC at all. As a matter of fact, someone else is. Get ready, because this summer Disneyland and Walt Disney World resort guests are going to have the opportuity to visit the park's newest attraction:

Stitch's Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride.

Let me tell you, I couldn't be more excited. Why? Because I've had insiders feeding me information as to what this update is going to include, and let me tell you, it's going to be one hell of a ride.

Disney's Imagineers are very excited about this project. My sources are saying that the Imagineers feel lucky to be able to take an original attraction that people love and add Stitch into the mix. "We've never done anything like this before", says one Imagineer, "and we feel lucky to be able to take an original attraction that people love and add Stitch into the mix".

For those of you who want to be suprised by this attraction, I suggest you turn away now. SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

When guests enter the Hub of Disneyland park and the Magic Kingdom this coming summer they're going to notice something new Looming over the western Horizon. Imagineers plan to install an arrogantly blue 230 foot "wave" in Place of the current facades for both Pirates of the Caribbean attractions. Due to concerns of the wave looking too fat and being considered a giant ripple, the Imagineers plan to make this wave out of flat Plywood so it comes across more as a wall of water. One Imagineer said "We're concerned that guests will think it looks too fat and consider it a giant ripple, so we plan to make this wave out of flat Plywood so it comes across more as a wall of water". Once guests enter the attraction, they will notice that the queue areas of both have remained largely similar, becuase they want guests to realize that this is still the Pirates of the Caribbean they all love, just with some updates. "We're leaving the queue's laregly unchanged, because we want guests to realize that this is still the Pirates of the Caribbean they all love, just with some updates", said one anonymous Imagineer. However, there will be some slight changes, like the infamous stalemate chess game, which will now include Jumba and Pleakley playing chess, with Stitch standing on the board with all the pieces on the floor, and Lilo off to the side saying "Bad Stitch, Bad!". At Disneyland, the infamous "Lafitte's Landing" sign will still say Laffitte's Landing, except there will be a an arrow drawn inbewteen "la" and "Fitte", and at the other end of the arrow will be the word "stinkee", so as to read "la Stinkee Fitte's Landing (La Stinky Feet). Stitch will also be placed there saying "It's French!". The Blue Bayou Restaurant will retain it's name, except it will be dramatically changed. Everything will be blue, be it the table, silverware, floor, and waiters costumes. Disney is even going so far as to issue blue underwear to the waiters and chefs, which workers will have to arrive 5 minutes before their shift for a manditory check. Don't you just love it when Disney puts in those details that only certain people notice, knowing full wel that only certain people will see it? THIS is the kind of thing Walt would have wanted.

Stay tuned tomorrow for part 2 of a series, as we cover what the actual attraction is going to entail, along with some concept art from WDI. You'll lose your mind!

Your thoughts?" tlaw1969

I don't know Marty or any imagineer for that matter but over the last few years I've come to respect Corrus as one of the most straight foward "in the know" people on this board. I tend to believe his version of Disney politics over anyone else. He rarely gets upset and only puts people in their place when it seems pretty relevant to me. I hope this post is lesson to those out there who treat JHM's articles as gospel. Some of the original imagineers hold a fond place in the heart of some of us Disney fans. Some of them made contributions that are on the same level as Walt and to openly bad mouth them over third and forth party heresay is pretty lousy. If you weren't there don't speak like you were....and maybe you won't get burned by the people who really do know...and look really bad. There is a difference between speculative discussion and outright lies.Sorry if I offended anyone,I'm off my soapbox.
