My first date was Star Wars. I was 17 (I'm sooooo old) and we doubled with another couple. I missed the scene in the bar because I was watching to see when her hand went into the popcorn. Then I reached in at the same time pretending that I was unaware that her hand was already in the popcorn bag and... Oh My Gosh, our hands touched. Man was I a dork!!

It's a sweet memory though.

In regards to Mark Hamill, I gotta say I love him as the voice of the Joker in Mask of the Phantasm (amongst other things). That laugh was fantastic!

Oh, and I too saw Star Wars in the theater back in '97...definitely a great experience for me having only watched it on video. Nothing like seeing that star destroyer fly over on the big screen :)

Yeah, he is lucky he looks as good as he does, he was MESSED UP! These scene when he was in the infirmary and they were testing his new hand, his face is all scarred up, those were from his accident, they had to write in the accident.....thats what I saw on a Star Wars special, my husband is a bit of a SW geek. lol

I did a little digging...I always accepted this accident as fact. Turns out the reality is far less interesting than the truth. Turns out Mark Hamill's accident and the injuries he received were grossly exaggerated. He broke his nose....that is it. I guess Jedi just do not age well.

Umm, me thinks it more than a broken nose regardless of what was dug up on the internet. More like a broken nose, broken cheekbone and torn upper lip.

The difference between the first film and the second and third film regarding his facial structure is startling. His appearance today is most likely due to the stress of once being number one for a short period and then falling into the abyss and trying to climb back out and join Harrison, Steven and George, chem abuses of some kind or another due to said stress, and other personal strife.

I don't have any proof of above.. but I do have good eyes and a decent sense of what some hardships can do to a persons appearance.

Regardless, I wish him the best and must say that seeing the original film in 1977 was an indescribable experience that I have only seen twice since. The original Jurassic Park and the very original Matrix. Not my favorite films.. but they were cutting edge (and mind boggling at the time) in a suprising way.

I would tend to agree but from his own lips he broke his nose. Here is his quote from imdb.com

Mark Hamill said:
"I had the accident way before Star Wars came out, but what really happened has been terribly distorted. I broke my nose, that's it! But I've read accounts about how my face has been reconstructed with plastic surgery and how I was pulling myself along the highway with one arm looking for help. I even heard that I drove off a cliff! That's the best one of all." - Mark Hamill on his auto accident.

Boy this whole thread makes me feel old. I remember going to the first movie in fact I still have the little booklet that was sold at the movie.

Mark Hamill was way busy after Star Wars. Yes he did lots of voice work but he also created a comic book. He still does the occasional voice over as Luke too....
