Marathon characters

They have tons of special/rare characters they could use for Halloween and the Christmas parties but rarely do.

I know :( They so miss out, Sure I got a photo with 2 bears at Christmas but imagine if they brought out some of the Disney Afternoon characters out for Halloween or Christmas... 80s and 90s generation adults would run to get in line for autographs and photos :D

Maybe we would be lucky enough to have some in petes silly sideshow? I know I would run to the park if that was so... :lookaroun

The country bears arent rare, two of them were out today at EPCOT. Plus two of them are in the Hoedown. Unusual, yes, but certainly findable.

I believe the bears are only used at Epcot for training sessions, which aren't announced in advance.

God forbid we need to find a character without a times guide, tell-a-cast, and the CHIP hotline. There's still about 175 characters harder to find than the bears.

or you can run a Disney race and meet the rare characters. One of the perks of putting your body through a 13 or 26 mile race. :king:

As I was getting a photo taken with Darkwing Duck back in January of 2010 at the Disney Hollywood Studios, it was late enough the park was open and I heard a mama on the other side of the cones ask his character attendant if her child could get a photo too, and the attendant politely but matter of factly told her no, that the characters were only out for the runners.

That said, I hope Pete's Silly Sideshow does have characters. Has anyone heard one way or the other?

Maybe this is why there were no characters in park proper this year (outside of MK)? I don't recall seeing any characters within the parks themselves this year, but definitely saw plenty in years past. They had some just off stage, but I don't recall seeing any that were in areas normal guests would wander into.

During the full on Sunday, we were slow enough that World Showcase was fully open to park guests and reasonably busy. I remember Mushu and Jose being out for the marathon participants (and close to the cones), but they were allowing day guests to take photos as well. I don't stop for the characters, but I saw some runners getting a little frustrated that they just wanted a quick photo with the character but a couple kids wanted to hang out with Mushu. :)

I was bummed that Zorro wasn't out this year, but seeing Chip and Dale in their Rescue Ranger outfits was fantastic.

:dazzle: I cannot afford to do them... too busy with online classes and no way in enough shape to attempt even a mini :dazzle:

I found the Family Fiesta 5K featuring the three Calleberos theme on Friday to be a bit odd that they didn't have Donald or any of the Calleberos out. They had Mulan with Musha and the guy I forget his name, Aladdin with Jasmine and Abu, and then Mickey by himself. But the race was fun.

Congrats to everyone who ran! You guys are amazing! I love hearing and seeing photos of the rare characters. It deff makes me want to run one of the races. I can see how seeing them can really get you pumped up to run!

They were out, not sure how you missed them

You know something. I wonder if this site had existed back when Darkwing Duck was new, would people be questioning why Disney was putting a character from a TV series in the parks and not having older "classic" characters out...:lookaroun

There's always been a mix of classic and new. What seems to have gotten under people's skin is the elimination of Jiminy Cricket. But I'll bet he will be back . . . eventually. :)

What is always cool is when the new is a classic not previously out, such as Clarabelle Cow, Horace Horsecollar, etc. Maybe one day the Magic Kingdom will find a place for Oswald. Not having him out when that Wii game was so popular but bringing out a cell phone app Gator, well, that's crazy.

The Disney Afternoon characters were a fairly large part of Mickey's Birthdayland/Starland back then. It made sense for characters like Darkwing and Launchpad to be there.

All 3 were over at the start area before the race, right next to the DJ. Assuming they followed the same pattern as for the other 5k's, they would have been right back in the same area after the race as well.

Epic Mickey is still popular, actually. Epic Mickey 2 is on the way.

Oswald is currently rumored to be appearing at Pete's Silly Sideshow in the Storybook Circus, along with Pete, Clarabelle, Horace, the 3 Little Pigs, etc.

Bringing out a cell phone app character is NOT crazy. That's the same as if one were to say that the TV show characters (even popular ones like the Disney Afternoon crew, Phineas & Ferb, etc.) shouldn't be out, which is just as outright discriminatory.

And the parks do still bring out the classics. Not all of them necessarily, but the majority of the characters currently still appearing in the parks are "classics" (Mickey and friends, the Pooh gang, the Princesses, etc.).
