Man Accused of Stealing Buzzy's Clothing from Disney World Arrested

Does literally nobody take the 3 seconds to research stuff before they make claims or even better, take 3 seconds to look at the pic of the face mold where it is abundantly clear its not what was on the animatronic..?? Like...he had articulated eyelids and eyes that were separate from his face. Isn't it super obvious that the mold has skin covering the eyes!!! Did they think his eyes were painted on? Did nobody look at a pic of the animatronic to compare I just. Geeze!!
It's more sensationalist to portray that he ripped the head off and gouged out the eyes, then posted the picture to taunt Disney.

Because I would rather buzzy be safe in the hands of disney then be stolen.

Being "safe in the hands of Disney" led to him being stolen in the first place, though. There's no excuse whatsoever for the theft, but Disney probably should have moved him when it became clear that people were regularly breaking into the theatre. Especially since he was already tagged for archival.

It just seems so silly to me. Buzzy has been dead for years. They had no plan to use him for anything. His usefulness was spent. He had a good run, but, it came to an end. Value of $120,000? Seriously? It might have cost Disney that much to create him, but, as of the closing of WoL Pavilion he was already an asset depreciated entry on the corporate tax form. Spare parts maybe to some extent. Who knows maybe Disney did just recycle him for parts, but, upon seeing the response decided to continue the charade and just said he was missing to throw everyone off the path. Hey, it could happen. Whether it did or not remains to be seen, but, I know that if I never hear about it anymore, it will not be one of the things I think about on my death bed. It would probably be more like... I wonder if I should have gotten that penicillin shot back in 1969. ;):D

Oh, I know the answer to that one: That's not the case.

It would be better to say a good number of people make claims before minimally easy research and a good number of that set do it often.

Keep in mind that $120,000 number comes from BDD himself in a video where he cropped out important parts of a search warrant. So who knows?

If that number is from Disney I am guessing they're including all the R&D to make buzzy on top of actual cost of materials.

Yea... insurance is a funny thing. They have no reference books to look at to determine the value of an Animatronic, so it is just whatever Disney says. As for BDD. the only way he could be quoting a number would be if that was what he got when he sold it.

In the video he said that is what police told him it was worth. But all grain of salt. That could have been a number they told him, hoping he'd mess his shorts. He could have been lying to sound cool.

We just have to wait.

In his podcast BDD brought up the point that there is definitely a manual somewhere in the infinite files of WDW that shows how to disassemble Buzzy and shows all his schematics, functions, etc. He said something like "I would do lots and lots of nasty things to see it"

...and now I spend a lot of time thinking about the nasty nasty things I'd do to see it too o_O bothers me knowing it exists somewhere we can't see!!

How is it that I am just now hearing that this was all official? I saw Hoot's posting about it but I thought he was joking. DANG!

Not really, he got a lot of details wrong, like saying the mold of Buzzy's head was actually the animatronic head with it's eye gouged out.
Offhand Disney is one of many YouTube channels that have popped up over the last few years that attempt to cover Disney and theme park history lessons. Like many of them, Offhand Disney, while mostly okay, tends to spout off long-standing rumors and urban legends as facts. Yesterworld Entertainment is the only one I've seen that puts serious research into their videos, almost on the level of Martin's Videos.

So like... can somebody who's well versed in law explain why Spikes plead not guilty? I can only attribute it to a massive display of arrogance and stupidity. Is there another strategy afoot here?

Most defendants plead Not Guilty because it is up to the state to prove your guilt. You do not have to prove your innocence.

Well yes but I was more thinking that he probably has almost no chance of getting out of this and doesn't a guilty plea usually come with a lighter sentencing?

No, he could luck into a sympathetic judge or jury, if it goes that far. But, one makes it difficult and hope for an inability to prove "beyond a shadow of a doubt". It's not going to really affect the outcome as far as the punishment is concerned, but, one goes for whatever shot is possible. However, asking a question like that kind of ignores the semblance of innocent until proven guilty since so many have already determined his guilt. He may well be guilty, but, they have to prove it. Standard procedure.

That only works if he as been offered a plea agreement stating a lighter sentence if he gives up his right to a jury trial. Without an offered agreement there will not be any automatic leniency. He has nothing to lose by pleading not guilty if he hasn't been offered an opportunity to benefit from pleading guilty.
