Maker of Universal coaster warns of safety issue Rip Ride Rocket

That coaster is just an epic fail. At first you could compare it to Test Track because of how long it took to get the ride working. Now you can't because Universal rushed it and now it's still having major problems one year into it's lifespan. Hopefully Universal will get it fixed and learn to never use whoever built it ever again.

Universal claims it addresses this issue weeks ago, and it's now closed due to unrelated maintenance... not sure if I completely believe them, though.

Rockit has been closed since Wednesday and Universal won't say when the coaster will reopen. But the resort said the shutdown has nothing to do with Maurer Sohne's warning; Orlando's theme parks routinely close major rides for maintenance and upkeep.

Uh huh.

Forget Universal, NO ONE should ever buy from Maurer Sohne ever again. Bunch of bafoons. Universal did make a mistake by not giving the ride a proper testing period, but their real mistake was choosing the wrong manufacturer. Unfortunately, Universal can't fix an outsourced ride with integral design flaws. The manufacturer is responsible for the quality of their product.

I tried to ride this thing several times when I was there last December. The worse thing was i got into the test seats for a photo and the hydrolics broke and I was stuck in the seat for 20 minutes. Needless to say I was put off by the ride after that.

Any idea what the fate of this attraction will be? Will it be something as simple as replacing a part on the train, replacing the trains entirely or could it be a severe as scraping the entire attraction?

The ride is now down indefinitely (I'll grab the link to the article in a few). Universal is reporting that they are now going to perform routine annual maintenance given that the ride is already shut down. This could be great news for the so-called "rough" train #5 (and let me tell you, it's horrid) as well as fixing/potentially updating the music software on all of the seats.

That is, assuming, that they do intend to perform some annual maintenance instead of simply reporting that's what they're doing when really they're just waiting for a fix from Maurer-Sohne. Time will tell, but Rockit is definitely out for HHN and the foreseeable future.

They got what they paid for here. Unlike in Japan where they got a B&M they went with a cheap custom coaster and added tons of weight to the cars. Now it's a PoS. Am I the only one NOT surprised here?

Maurer wasn't the cheaper option, they were the option that didn't have a five year waiting list. If Universal had chosen B&M like they wanted to, we wouldn't be talking about the ride right now, because it wouldn't exist yet.

I'd rather wait 5 years for a quality coaster that doesn't have the problems HRRR has had in the past year-and-a-half.

This was the most uncomfortable coaster that I've been on. Mind you I'm 23, average weight, of somewhat good health, and ridden much more intense coasters - but after our ride both my girlfriend and myself walked away with killer aches.

I love the idea of the ride. I even know someone who I went to high school with who was involved with the construction and development. Universal rushed an already fast project in fear of Potter construction and shoehorned the coaster into a very compact area. You can't rush something as difficult as implementing a coaster into an existing area.

I doubt that I will subject myself to RRR until they finally give the proper time to fix it.

This ride wins my vote for the "most frustrating" award for any Universal attraction. Late to open followed by weeks of "maybe it will open today and maybe it won't - hang around in this massive queue outside the ride entrance for a couple of hours and see what happens." There went a morning of a short trip I'll never get back. :brick:

I certainly won't schedule a trip to Universal to ride it, but if I happen to be there and it is open, I will give it a try.

I'm beginning to think this could be considered the biggest fail of a ride in Florida attractions history. Not because it's bad but because it clearly wasn't ready to be operated and is now having a ton of structural problems a year into it's existence. At least once Disney got Test Track running, it kept running...
