Sometimes the points run out and we still have our APs. Unlike some here, I never claim WDW has stopped being fun. But we now plan to alternate years because of the cost. This is our AP year. 2026, we will do other things (we are going to Italy and Greece).
Greece is on my bucket list. I hope you have an amazing trip! We are heading back to Hawaii (the Big Island this time) in 2026 for our 30th anniversary.

While I don't agree with a lot of what they are adding, I do agree the parks are still fun. The problem is I can't get past the cost.

As much as most of you look down on other parks, for us we have just as much fun at a 5 day vacation at Cedar Point for a quarter of the cost.
Right there with you.

I used to go to music concerts all the time. Now that the tickets are $125 + $356.85 in Ticketmaster fees, I stay home. It does not mean that I no longer like live music. It means the cost to experience it has exceeded the monetary value I place on it.

Disney has reached that same point. I love the parks and miss going to them dearly, but it is no longer worth what Disney is currently charging.

Totally understand where you're coming from. But concerts and Disney theme parks aren't going to magically get cheaper.
Move on, you must.

obviously if you have just as much fun at a cheaper option that makes sense.

In recent years we have done Universal Orlando and Dollywood and both just highlighted that we like Disney a lot more (doesn't mean they are bad or that we will never go back, but we are definitely willing to pay more for Disney than for what our experiences were there)

That's fair. If Disney's rides and IP are your thing, then it makes sense. For us, it's really only me that has nostalgia for the parks. My wife didn't grow up on them and my kid is 5. Both would rather go to a Dollywood for coasters then Disney.

Yeah but brain scramble isn’t the same audience

Cedar Point when you include the resort is more than just coasters. Add in night time fireworks and their shows through out the summer they offer a cheaper version of a Disney vacation.

I will say that I do see a lot families at Cedar Point on vacation. It is a similar audience in the general public. The difference is the audience that frequents this board is a different one then one that goes to Cedar Point

I don't care about this stuff but I would like what Universal gives me, FREE EXPRESS PASSES 👍
I just checked Universals Portofino for 5/5/2025 (this resort includes FREE express pass) and its $395, LOL
$395 is an absurdly great price, but they’re not doing it out of the generosity of their hearts. Attendance pre-Epic might be grim.

Oh yeah, I’d never deny that Uni provides a better value — they have to. They have to fight for it a lot harder than Disney does. I have zero doubt in my mind they’d love to charge Disney prices if they could.
I think because Universal does not actually own and operate the hotel, I think it may help to keep their prices lower.

We notice the lowest cost hotels on Disney property is Swan and Dolphin (not owned by Disney)

Disney owns and operates their own hotels so they do as they wish. I think Disney will NEVER lower their hotel prices, I think they will just run specials and sales like they are doing now.

I’ve Been…many times…

Far better than a six flags…Lake Erie notwithstanding 🤪

But you know what you get. Every year since 1989, their promo ad has been the evil voiceover saying “coming in ____…a new dimension in terror. The worlds tallest, fastest, shakiest, pepto bismal required blah blah blah” with lightning bolts and/or fangs flash across the screen

There is a distinction between thrill park goers and themepark goers…but they should and do try to crossover

Til the mid 2000s they did that. Since COVID this has been their advertising campaign which is aimed at families.

I don't know what to tell you. Families pack that park all summer to the tune of 4 million guests. You can't tell me those same families all don't go to Disney too.
Of course some do, that doesn't make it anywhere near a family park nor does it have that reputation. It is known as a park for thrill seekers, not Grandma, Granddad and the little ones and a commercial showing mostly giant coasters for rides isn't going to change that much.
