Heads up if your Disney-related travels take you through the Intersection of I-4 at US 192 -- Florida DOT says it will be starting major roadwork there at the beginning of January. This is part of the I-4 and 192 revitalization projects that have been underway for some time now.

Here's the info from www.trans4mation.org

====
The Trans4mation of I-4 will kick off the New Year with the reconstruction of the I-4 / US 192 interchange beginning in January. After a planned postponement to make sure holiday traffic flowed smoothly without major work zone delays, construction crews will converge on the site to cultivate the current design into a roadway for the future.

The new interchange will improve traffic flow between I-4 and US 192 and includes enhanced ramp designs, better drainage, and provides a wider space for future I-4 lanes. The project is expected to be completed in 2007 at a cost of $58.9 million.

There will be several ramp detours during the various stages of construction that may be used one at a time, or in tandem. FDOT will work to minimize the impact to the area and there are no planned detours or closures of I-4 or US 192, except for intermittent nighttime construction activities.

Luckily, one can use the World Drive entrance if coming from the Tampa area, and Epcot Drive or 535 if coming from the Orlando area........

Speaking of which, I wish that they would make Central Florida Parkway a complete interchange......guests to DTD could get off and take Palm Parkway to 535, then turn left.....if would help get rid of the congestion that is around the 535 exit most nights from all of the people going to DTD.

ah yes, traffic jams, bumper to bumper traffic, etc., just what we need with record crowds expected this coming year. Don't we all love the FDOT??:lol:

They are a real class act......spending 30 years to moderize I-4, which will get it up to the needs of the year 2000.......seems a little dumb

I wish someone would invent a Jetsons-style car......

I find it amazing that a DOT that can work all year (IE: through the winter months) cannot complete a construction project in a decent amount of time. How long did the redo of I-192 take back several years ago? And what, that was only a couple of miles!

A Jetsons car? Would you like it to turn into a briefcase as well ? :lol:

The problem with the FDOt is that they CAN work all year, so they do. In the northern states, certain projects can not be done durring the winter months, so they have a very limited time period to do the work (In Michigan, there are two seasons, Winter and Road Contruction).....

U.S. 41 has had it's share of construction on and off though the Tampa area... I remember when it was under construction just north of me for 2.5 years due to they ran out of money!!!!!

Finally finished where they wanted... but not where i wanted.....

Just think of I-4 like this... it was built in the 70s... and eventually they remembered they built it for no traffic... now it is still under construction and almost done from Tampa up to Disney.... but it wont be done for another what 7 years to have it completed form Tampa to Orlando... then they have to go back and add more lanes.... (at least they left enough room at some spots for that...)
