Major Changes to Phase 2 of Fantasyland Project?

The Epcot Manifesto
Has anyone actually confirmed the date the SWSA is closing?
I know that there was a post on another site that said it is closing this coming spring, but I just cant see that happening. I can't fathom why they would close that ride until the new one is ready to go, or at least until some of the FLE is ready to open and take away some of the crowds that might be riding SWSA. Of course, they have done plenty of things that seem to boggle the mind, from time to time.
The funny thing is that out of all of this, I just can't get myself worked up over the closing of SWSA. I like the ride enough I guess, but I can remember the old version as well that scared the pants off of little-ol-me. I think that I'll be saddest to not see that little reproduction of the Dwarf's cottage inside the ride. If they ever do the mine ride, as long as they cover that little piece, I'm fine.

They should just do this. It would work with the only problem being that they may need to devise a retractable bridge to handle the foot traffic and still allow the riverboat to function. But it would be a great addition and I know it's popularity would exceed anyone's expectations. Especially if it had an actual attraction added to the island. This and the new FLE would really be effective at spreading out MK crowds too. win-win-win-win

Seriously, I think my daughter would pretty much move in to Tiana-land and not ever want to leave if they did this. There is so much potential here that hopefully in a few years when they realize that PatF has staying power, they will revisit and do at least something. I just can see how much they could do with PatF, not just the restaurant. How cool could the Shadowman scenes with the dancing voodo dolls and blacklight glowing stuff be in a dark ride?

Actually Tiana's Palace and many other themes from Princess & the Frog were once a blue sky concept for TSI. But that kinda stuff always gets shoved to the back depending on how well the movies are accepted. They wait a couple years to see if it still has staying power before they look into it any further.

I would love to see either Tiana's Palace restaurant or even a Princess & the Frog themed Riverboat in Adventureland. It would be a nice edition and somewhere that would be a themed meet and greet for Tiana and Naveen. It'd be sweet.

I was hearing between January-March 2011, but that seems way too soon so I dont know. Great way to say happy 40th Anniversary by gutting out a classic. :brick: I can see a Rapunzel/Tangled dark ride in there though, that wouldnt be so bad. It would appeal to both girls and boys. But still once its redesigned into a meetngreet it will stay that way I think at least for a couple decades.

I think a Tiki Room type venue would be perfect somewhere on the island. :)

Agrred, a themed environment would be nice. Certainly seeing the boat in the tree fully realized somewhere would be amazing IMO.

I really think it may be temporary. I think they may have much bigger plans than have been announced. In my opinion we have only seen the first steps of the FLE.

There is already a nicely themed M&G behind the Christmas Shop in Liberty Square. There is a gazebo back there where Tiana and Naveen appear. If any suits were smart, they would look at the lines when they appear especially in this well hidden area. They even do photopass there where they have a Naveen frog that sits on your hand. Tiana's Palace would be a wonderful restaurant. Just where to place it is the problem. It could be in FLE since it really doesn't have to be on the Mississippi River. Agree that if not in the park, they should make Bonfamile's at the Port Orleans Resort into Tiana's Palace. Not only a restaurant, but also a M&G. It would be fantastic.

I've been told by many CMs that Tiana merchandise flies off the shelf. I can tell you that most Disney Stores I've visited it's the same way. Here's hoping that one day each and every princess will have their own attraction or show or restaurant.

It is true that the film was not the critical darling Disney was hoping for nor did it rake in the dough during its theatrical run. But like you, I have heard that it continues to do exceedingly well on the merchandising side (not sure if that extends to DVD/Blu-ray copies of the film itself, but I'd have to think so because the kids have to see the film before they become enamored of Tiana, don't they?). And $$$ is a primary motivator at Disney.

Your obvious spots for P&tF deployment are Port Orleans at WDW and New Orleans Square at DL, and the riverboats at both parks. Low-hanging fruit would be to re-theme Blue Bayou as Tiana's Palace, but it would be very difficult to make that restaurant feel like Tiana's place does in the film, at least not without ruining the PotC crossover elements. I think doing something at Port Orleans is much less problematic and could make that a destination dining spot in the World if you really get ambitious with the menu, include a MnG and possibly even a musical show, and have the obligatory P&tF-specific shop. Additionally, a PatF live show aboard the riverboats would be very cool as well.

Actually PatF did quite as good as 90's films in terms of box office gross. I often see the figures posted here, so if anyone has them to share...

And Tiana and the crew have something very rare for films nowadays, merchandise sales! Means easy $$$. That's the motivator, right? :animwink:

And Tiana can fit almost anywhere except Epcot. DAK is a major stretch, but MK and DHS can accomodate almost any film.

Box Office Mojo has the total take at $267,045,756. The film's budget was $105 million.

Yesterday my son asked me if there was a WALL-E ride at Disneyworld - when I replied "No" he told me to call the people at Disney and tell them to build one. Ah, to be four and think it's that easy...

they could easily replace (a very dated) Circle of Life w/ a WALL-E film that would:

A) be very cute
B) work with many nationalities since WALL-E doesn't speak much English, which is good for a multi-lingual crowd.

Now that is a pretty darn good, and most likely not too cost prohibiting, idea. It's got so much potential with the trashing of the earth prior to the start of the movie, or with a bit following the "return" to earth and subsequent learning Farming and such that shows up in the credits.

And as the credits go along and they grow their own healthy food and walk on their own two feet, their silhouettes get slimmer and healthier. I love that little detail and jab at current society! Quite bold for Disney really.
