That was a case where the injured person completely took responsibility for his actions. He had his hands outside the boat trying to see if he could reach something, if I recall. Even if he hadn't that does not a death trap make.

I much prefer that PoTC not soak me as well. However, it is a water ride and water is wet. There is a downhill run that hits the water and splashes. It shouldn't as much as it does, but, one should reasonably expect that if they are on a boat ride, water might become a factor.

Wha wha WHAAAAAAT? Water is wet, what the, who the, what? Who doth giveth thee these absurd notions? Speak now of fills thou mind with blasphemy!:p

So not true. We may not have had them, but lawsuits from the 80's and 90's caused what we see today. If they had used a modicum of safety then, maybe we wouldn't be nannied now.

Or just reform how lawsuits are handled in the court to resemble more responsibility? So that companyd have nothing to fear unless it is evident they are truely at fault.

How long has the talking skull been gone?

Probably around the same time that the talking parrot went missing from over the front entrance :-(

It's been gone since the ride's half-refurb in 2006. That's when Disney added Jack Sparrow but didn't bother cleaning up the rest of the attraction. It was one of the incidents that caused corporate to pull some refurb power away from park VPs—Space Mt finally broke the camel's back. Oh Phil Holmes, what a mess you made.

This might be a silly question, but are there ever soft openings at the end of refurbs? We're leaving 3 days before the ride is scheduled to reopen, and I would be willing to stalk that corner of MK if a sneak-peek was an option.

I have had experience of this, however, there is also the possibility of it being pushed back in the other direction meaning the reopening date is later than expected. I have known Splash to open a few days ahead of schedule in the past.

Yep, this happened to us when we went in January this past year. They opened Splash for a soft opening after a minor refurb.

Funny thing was that we rode it countless times with no line because 99% of the people had thought if was going to be closed (as did I). It was a rare moment that we had to seize.
