Welcome to the boards. I'm with you on this. We are going late August. Doesn't sound too good for either of us. It's better for the long run that the ride gets fixed and it definitely needs it so I'm 100% in favor of the refurb. I wish they would just start right now. Then it would be done by mid-July in time for both of us:)
Look at it this way--the ride breaks down a LOT and it is no fun getting stuck on it. With it closed, the park is unlikely to close anything else of substance while you are there, so you can enjoy all of your other favorites.

- Hi guys! Long time reader, first time poster here. Dan from London, England and really looking forward to joining the community. Travelled to WDW a lot during childhood and now (mid-20s) taking my other half for my first 'grown-up' trip :) -

This news about Pirates has been my motivation to join the community. We're heading to WDW in September, being my favourite ride from DLRP I was really looking forward to it - do we know yet if it is more than likely to be closed during the month of September?

It will likely be closed, but don't fret over it - WDW's Pirates is the worst of all Pirates attractions worldwide and DLRP's is far superior.

Four months is all they need to disable all the mouth movements on the figures and replacing them with a replica of Phil Holmes' teeth.

I'll admit it, I laughed harder than I should have....

Not fretting here, but saying not to fret because WDW's doesn't match the experience of other PotC rides around the globe is not of much condolence for anyone who doesn't travel further than Florida. You are fortunate in that you've had that chance to see and compare.

Yep. I'm not worried about it. I'm pretty sure they won't pull a Maelstrom on me. I look forward to seeing the ride restored to a higher quality. I was so happy to see Splash with almost everything working on my last trip. It sucks to miss one of your favorites, but it just makes it that much better next time.

I remember one trip to WDW I took where I walked up to Haunted Mansion only to find that it was closed for its big refurb. Didn't ruin my trip because I knew we would be back and it would be open again. We just rode something else. It ended up being worth the wait :)

I wouldn't get hopes too high. Maintenance is done at a minimum and the ride being closed for so long saves money on staffing. Don't expect much, kids.

Maybe, but how do you explain the recent Splash Mountain big refurb?

If the ride is really closing for 6 months I refuse to believe they won't do much to it. It's killing local management to have the ride down at all so it really makes no sense to close it for 6 whole months and then just do some minimum amount of maintenance. That can be done at night without closing the ride at all.

I think you misunderstood what I meant. The poster I was replying to said Pirates at DLRP is one of their favorites, implying they've been to DLRP at least once. My point was that they've already been on a better Pirates than they'd find at WDW, so to not be crestfallen.

It only took them 6-9 months to BUILD it in the first place, Hire a competent engineering crew and you could have it done in 90 days - BUT IT WOULD COST MONEY.
I would agree with that, although I would also caution against rushing work too much, especially on a 40 year old attraction. There's also the question of scheduling and having skilled people who know how to work on whatever needs work, in the order it needs work. I'd prefer every attraction getting dedicated maintenance on a regular basis, with parts being changed out on a schedule with heavier maintenance annually, like aircraft. But they don't always listen to me. ;)
