Here's the deal with them as I see it. If you want to see them you will. If you are at the ready to nitpick every detail of everything, you will notice them. And if you are just there for the fun of it, you might notice them, but, also know that they affect your experience to a minimum level. If you are a true Disney fan you will be able to ignore all the lighting poles and set ups in Disneyland, because, well, because they are king and nothing they do is wrong. It's all a smoke screen. I am thankful that I still go to enjoy myself and not get hung up over minor junk that has no real impact on my enjoyment or that I realize that in order to be everything to everybody, sometimes real world realities have to enter into our little fantasy world. People that didn't notice them are not blind, they are just focused on what is important and not what actually can be described as important parts of what makes the magic and what might be lessened if they didn't exist. The Magic doesn't just happen.
Thanks again.:)

We are not quantized into two groups (seeing every little problem at WDW or not seeing any of them). We're on a continuum. In other words, every change like this is going to bring some critics and some who don't notice. Thus, the important bit is not our individual opinions, but the opinion of the group in aggregate. I like reading both opinions. The problem with the two box approach is that we're all either brainless who would give our right kidney to go to WDW regardless of how terrible the property had become or overly retentive theme park experts who are critical of every change that falls short of our Platonic ideal.

I would also like to note that it is possible to opposite the rhetorical argument to the "true Disney fans can ignore the lighting poles, etc" since you could also just as passionately argue that a true Disney fan would want them to put effort into hiding all these things and creating magic. For example, I would argue that back in the day a lot better job would've been done hiding lighting, etc. on Ariel's Undersea Adventure. I'd hate to think that I'm not a true Disney fan for having this thought.

I should note that I'm not saying that I like or don't like these poles since I have yet to experience the glory or lowliness (don't know my opinion yet) of the new hub, but we shouldn't have a problem with an individual liking or not liking the new hub.

Marni, I'm still trying not to step on anyone's toes...this old dog has a lot to learn about posting. I guess I use symbols, all the time and it may get tiring to some, but I want to be clear when I'm joking. I don't know the nuances of how to post.

Don't worry about it. I'm a middle aged dog and the number of times I've been misinterpreted is uncountable. We lose facial expressions and other cues when typing. What you actually did was the correct thing (i.e. follow up). I'm pretty impressed. I may need to enroll in your maturity lecture series.

Thanks a lot. Getting old is not all it's cracked up to be. My love, and sometimes anger at Disney today colors my posts. I'm an artist if that explains my temperament . No excuse, just who I am. As my dad always said...I over think too much. I love Disney, that is clear, but I don't excuse everything that has happened . I've been going since it opened....and I've seen it all. But, I still go that's a testament that they appeal to most that continue to go. They appeal to young and old. I just look at different things now....atmosphere, looking at flowers, having someone fix me a meal. Any meal is good at my age...;) as my daughter like's to remind me, I've have old taste buds, and will eat anything. She is probably right. :D

I look at it pretty much the same way you do. I like the parts of the new hub that are complete, but in turn, there are things I don't like at WDW. I am neither a pixie duster, nor a doom & gloomer. My main issue with people complaining about the hub, is that it isn't even close to being finished. People complain that there aren't any trees, but the information released by Disney has quite a few trees there when they are all done. They complain about benches, but they are actually building benches into the low walls that surround the planting areas, so there is actually more seating than with individual benches. My wife and I would not sit on a bench that another person is already sitting on, but we are OK with sitting on a continuous wall bench with other people already there. I do agree with Marni that from a certain perspective, the poles are ugly and really should have been thought out better. But saying that, when we were there, we didn't even notice them, and I daresay that better than 90% of the people that go there, will not notice them either. I guess we're part of the problem with current WDW. Oh, and I've been going since 1978, so not quite when it opened, but more than 37 years since. :D

That statement I would agree with, but, not the traffic directing hub. Also if someone were to go through pictures of the WDW of yesteryear they would find more light polls out there then there was grass. It's not the idea itself, it's the concentration on that particular location that makes it a little annoying. The one that gets me the most is the retractable poles. Like there are no utilities, electrical, sewage, garbage vacuums, water, etc. under that ground. It's fluffed off like all that is necessary is to dig a hole and like a dog burying a bone, just drop a 10 or 15 foot pole in there along with the mechanics to make it work. Yup, it sure is a reasonable request for a utility traffic circle. Especially one that has almost no affect on all but a few people.

I've heard just about enough of your uninformeded talk hic about hic sight hic lines.

Found some more pictures of the hub before they finally got smart and redesigned it. This is just hideous! The castle is so obstructed by those trees! And hardly any space to view the fireworks!

this little girl looks pretty miserable as well. Look at all the annoying shade surrounding her in this photo. It was difficult back in the day to enjoy yourself in the hub with all the built in bench seating and beautiful, intricate landscaping. So glad they finally planted spiral shrubs and topiary plants that I can buy on Amazon.
