those new towers will not replace the retractables that are in place, there are too many par cans on the light stack to fit in the turret, and do they really bother people when they are retracted?
They are not referring to the retractable lights, but to the tall, green poles with a few lights at the top. Those will definitely be removed once the new towers will be completed.

I think @jrlang1 and @Sage of Time were referring to the old parade route lighting that is around the Hub. But I could be wrong.

And I wouldn't be surprised if those retractable rigs are removed. With newer LED lights, a lot of the old par cans could be condensed into a few LED fixtures. But time will tell. Certainly the retractable rigs aren't a terrible situation as they are hidden away the vast majority of the time.

Edit: @FutureWorld1982 was on the same wavelength.

those rigs that you are referring to on the parade route? the turrets are in the wrong place to house lighting for the parade route south of 'partners'... or have i missed some lighting in the north beds around the foundations of the new control towers?

They're for nighttime when the themed lamp poles don't provide enough light for the crowds in that area. It is a safety feature. They're similar to flood lights.
I still wonder why they dont just iluminate at ground level like many hotels do.
do they need to light the entire place up with ugly lamps?

because during shows and really anytime after dark, you cannot see 3 feet in front of you, let alone the curbs and such.downlighting is only feasable when most of the area is not filled with a mass of moving humanity. downlighting on the pavement also does nothing for the security cameras mounted everywhere... and now that they have been pointed out, the closest lighting rigs [in go away green]COULD be incorporated, but i doubt it, even LED lights have a finite 'throw'. they really need to be right up on the parade/path route (the area where the light is needed) to be effective
