Main Street U.S.A. hub redevelopment at the Magic Kingdom

I see very little reason to use AstroTurf in Florida, where moisture is so abundant.
Believe it or not, grass is difficult to keep in Florida. It needs lots of irrigation, fertilizer, insect control, disease control. I spend a lot of $$ just to maintain my little lot.

Are you thinking the term "jardin à la française"?
Yes! It seemed just a little too obvious (French Garden? hehe) Googling the term I found some images that would be nice if they came even close to what's depicted around the fountains, granted they'll need railings and wider paths:

I guess I'm looking at completely different concept art. Nothing I see looks like a concrete wasteland.

Compared to the Disney hub of old, I can see where folks feel it's just too much pavement. But with the internet and everyone telling everyone else, the best place to be is in the hub for the fireworks, Disney has had to make modifications. It's not like they razed the entire area... oh, wait.

The good news... they're not done folks!

No - there is some vegetation to be removed for phase II of the project when they find the existing moonscape too small.

Anyone that thinks that increasing the amount of paved surfaces to stand on is a bad idea... Ask any PAC cast member what their job is like, or try to leave the MK after fireworks during the holiday season, and see what it's like to be in crowds so dense that you fear for your personal safety.

I wish that the hub could be a lushly landscaped paradise. I also wish that queues could be designed without having to accommodate ECVs, or that Pirates of the Caribbean could have Disneyland's full-sized drop instead of having to deal with Florida's water table.

Such desires are not conducive to the realities of the park.

All increasing the plaza size is going to do is INCREASE the crowding you think it's bad now... The new moonscape hub is attempting to fix a symptom - by having shows which are meant to be seen from the FRONT of the castle which forces the crowd to congregate there by increasing the size of the plaza more are going to congregate unless disney modifies the MB so that it shocks the wearer if crowd density is more than 1 person per 4 sq ft, I dont see this changing with the new hub.

It's a show design problem. Being DVC I go to the TOTWL to see the fireworks shows as being in the MK at fireworks time is no fun at all anymore.

Yes
If you look at Neuschwanstein which Cinderella's Castle was modeled after, there is plenty of flat open space out in front of the main entrance it has to do with not having places for enemies to hide... also it made an effective place to speak to the assembled peasants .. err guests ... err customers :)

To me, it looks the same color as the new rails that have been going in all around the hub. Kind of an oil-rubbed bronze color.

What? Sleeping Beauty Castle is the one based on Neuschwanstein and it was a country retreat, not a fortress or place from which to deliver edicts.
