Magicbands and passholders

I think once you register your AP in the system it automatically links your band. I was able to find the link. But don't take my word for it. I'm also on a reservation my Dad made and looks like I'm getting a second band. :D

I want that BoG lunch fastpass but it doesn't show up in our selections. Probably limited. :(

I think it's better to think of everything on the MDE site as linking to peoples' profiles, and not specific tickets.
So an RFID card or MagicBand is linked to a *profile*. A ticket or AP is also linked to a profile and not to a specific ticket. So when the Band/Card is waved at a reader, the system looks up the profile and checks for the appropriate info it needs. (Front gate: Is there a valid admission for this person? Space Mountain: Is there a FP+ reservation for this person? Etc.)

Thanks Rob, this is an interesting way to think about it. When I log into My Disney Experience I can see my Annual Pass in my account, but not my husband's Annual Pass (even though I am pretty sure I typed in the confirmation number...it just doesn't show up). So I'm guessing that you must be right and that my AP is just automatically linked to the band without my having to do anything and that the band will get me into the parks. My husband's is the question mark right now. I guess we'll see what happens!

My AP (the RFID one) shows up on my tickets list but my husband's does not. I put the number in to the system and it took it but it's not there. HMM...
UPDATE: I was fooling around with the MDE app on my phone and tablet and both my and my husband's annual passes showed up. I can see them on the computer site as well - they're located in the My Reservations section (which, oddly enough, doesn't show my resort, dining or FP+ reservations...though they still appear in the My Disney Experience area of the site). o_O So things show up in some places but not others. Husband's AP still doesn't show up in the Magic Band area, but the fact that both passes are linked to my account somewhere and I was able to make FP+ reservations for both of us makes me think more strongly that what @Rob562 was saying is correct, that because they are there in my account they were automatically linked to the bands without my having to do anything. :) Really curious to see how everything shakes out in November.

has any AP holder without an onsite resort reservation been able to order/register/use magic bands or make fastpass+ reservations....or know when we will be able to?

So, at this point, a voucher will not allow to make FP+ attraction choices 60 days out and a guest needs an active AP for that, is that correct? Any word on what will be the policy once this is fully implemented? We are tentatively planning a late Feb/early March trip and my husband and my son will have AP vouchers by then (I have an active AP.). I am holding out hope that the headliners will be available day of.

that sounds like me... I have AP vouchers that I will activate the day I get there in December... and I am staying off property. Does this mean to won't be able to schedule anything or get magic bands until THAT DAY?! or will I at all since I"m off property?

To answer both of your posted questions...

I have not heard of any AP holders who have gotten Bands without staying on-site at a testing resort at some point in the past couple months. After they checked out, since they have a Band with valid admission tied to it, they have been able to still schedule FP+ for future dates, but are only allowed to have 7 calendar days with FP+ reservations at any one time. (A reasonable compromise IMO)

And until the system goes active and/or they start offering Bands to AP holders, you won't be able to make any FP+ reservations if you're staying offsite.

One thing that's unclear is whether you can make FP+ reservations with just the AP.

I have an AP that expires next month that's linked to my MDE profile. Mu profile is also linked to the RFID card I got when I converted my paper AP to the RFID media.
I also have one friend who I'm linked to via MDE who stayed at Pop Century last month and got a Magic Band. Because I'm linked to him (and he set his privacy settings to allow us to make plans for each other) I have access to the FP+ section of the website. But when I go in, his is the only profile that can be selected. Next to mine it says "Not eligible for MyMagic+".

Interesting....we usually have a 10-11 day trip when we go but sounds like we could only schedule fp+ for 7 days :(

does anyone know if I were to book 1 night on property at the beginning of my trip if I would be able to then order magic bands and make fastpass+ selections for 7 days from that date???

Correct. Unless you're staying on-site you'll be limited to 7 days. (Though I'm wondering if they should increase it to 10 days, since that's the max number of days on a ticket that a non-AP holder could have)

As long as you're staying at a resort that's participating during dates that the tests are running, then yes, you will.

If you have a PAP likely never, I have a stay planned in December and PAP's can't be linked, Joy I have the most expensive ticket media Disney sells and I can't use it to make FastPassMinus reservations and I'm staying onsite, Well done Disney, Well done

well I booked our first night on Dec. 10th at Pop to see if we could enable magic bands and fastpass+ and nothing id different... so I guess Pop is not enabled for "testing" still in December? (or maybe it takes overnight to sync up to order the magic bands not sure.

Currently there are no known resorts testing in December. Only check-ins through the end of November are getting access to the MagicBand and DP+ sections of the site. If/when they expand the testing into December, you should gain access.

If testing at all resorts end in November..it would seem strange to cut it off from there....unless they are re-evaluating what changes need to be made and where, etc.?

I would hope they would be ready to open it up to everyone including AP's staying on site or not. Anyone heard any "rumors" on what the plans on past November?

We were selected for the GF test for our trip in the end of Oct we received our bands today. I have a trip booked for next week at the wilderness, do you think our bands will work for that trip? When I say work I mean park entrance, room key, room charging not FP+.

Trip update:
We just returned from our stay at the wilderness. Our Magic bands did work for room charging/room key/park passes etc. It did not work for FP+. When we checked in they told me our bands were already linked to this reservation. Nice surprise.

I really liked having the band especially since we ate around the world F&W. The convenience of not having to fish out a room key is awesome. My only complaint is that band readers at table service restaurants didn't work all the time. Our waiter told us it was their reader not our band. I didn't think it was a big deal but they seemed very frustrated by it, which I can understand.

I just took the FP+ with an Annual Pass Exchange Certificate one step further. In the MDE smartphone app under Tickets and Passes, Scan My Ticket/Pass Instead, I successfully scanned it into the system using a certificate that I wasn't able to use when I originally intended. The certificate was issued to me back on 2009. So apparently the 20-digit number that predates FP+ by years is able to be accessed by MDE. Hurray!

I am an AP passholder and will be staying onsite only 1 night and then offiste for a week. I was able to make only 7 days of FastPass+ reservations but they did not need to be consecutive. When I tried to make FastPass+ for day 8, it allowed me to trade that day for another day of passes.

interesting... I wonder if this means AP holders will only get 7 days worth every so often (like per quarter?)
seems like 10 would at least be more fair - I know when we travel to WDW we usually stay a week and a half

Currently it's a rolling total of 7 days for AP holders. To make them for an 8th day you'd have to either use or give up one of your currents days of reservations.

(This is, of course, if you're not staying on-site. If you're on-site you should have access to as many days as your reservation is for)

I agree that the limit should be bumped to 10 days, which is equal to the max number of days a MYW ticket-holder would have.

wait... so you're saying off-site (or local) AP holders not staying on-site have been able to book FP+?

If they've previously stayed on-site during Band testing, yes. The Band they got during those stays are still active and able to make FP+ reservations because the admission ticket linked to it is still valid. The same should also hold true for someone who has remaining days of a non-expiring MYW ticket assigned to their MDE profile and have a Band from a prior trip.

A friend with an AP stayed at Pop a few weeks ago and can still make FP+ reservations (up to the 7-day limit). I have an AP, haven't been to WDW since the Bands rolled out, but do not have access to FP+.

He and I are linked as friends on MDE, which gives me access to the FP+ selection screens, but when choosing who to assign FP+ to, only his name has a checkbox next to it. Mine says "Not eligible to MyMagic+".

At some point in the future all AP holders will get a Band, even if they aren't staying on-property, but I doubt it'll happen before my AP expires in November.
