MagicBand+ announced

If true, huge problem. Like this-project-was-a-complete-failure problem. But I'm skeptical that the parks have even been open long enough for someone to have purchased a band, charged it fully, and played games for 2 hours.

Blah I loathe MagicMobile. I'd use a plastic card before MagicMobile.
They bought theirs during the initial, accidental sale a few months ago. That's how they were able to get the scoop on the night shows over the past few days.

I would as well. The mobile app is #2 for me, even with all the risks with that (phone battery dying), instead of spending money on another band. Which I have no reason to do, really, since I don't want or need any of the "features" of the new MB++++. I'll shut up now. 😂

The "two hours" tweet went up at 10:26 AM.

Hollywood Studios opened this morning at 8:30 AM.

MagicBand+ went on sale this morning.

The earliest this person could have acquired this band through legitimate retail channels is 8:30 AM.

The earliest this person could have been playing Batuu Bounty Hunters for two hours is 10:30 AM.

The earliest this person could have been playing Batuu Bounty Hunters for two hours on a full charge is later than 10:30 AM.

These bands likely shipped with something like a 30% charge.

This person is full of crap.
Not trying to defend anyone, but they had the MagicBand+ bands before they went on sale today. Several people (and websites) were able to get the bands when Disney sold them prematurely at World of Disney back in May. These folks could have had fully charged bands upon entering the park.

I really like the form factor of the bracelet, but I find myself missing my watch. You joke, but I'd pay $100 for a MB++ that's just the exact same thing as this but with a watch face. I would love an Apple Watch in the parks, but I hate Apple Watches in real life so I'm obviously not going to spend that kind of money on something I'd only wear at WDW.

I mostly agree except for "It also means they will need 8 USB power supplies to do all of this charging."

Who the heck has a phone that charges with USB-A anymore? The last iPhone to ship with USB-A was something like the iPhone X in 2017.
I find it much easier to have regular usb power bricks and a USB A to C cable for charging my phone. So to me this is perfect

Yeah, I've never bought something that uses a battery and had it charged to 100% right out of the box. Theoretically, it's possible that someone had a MB+ that was purchased when 1 of the shops inadvertently started selling them for a short time a while back, but I would think that anyone reporting that a full charge only lasts 2 hours would clarify that point when reporting. It's not hard to say, "I charged this to 100% last night in anticipation of testing today when the features went live and the battery only lasted 2 hours." Not only would that not be difficult, it would be much more informative. As it is, the other site just seems to be engaging in more click-bait "reporting" - or, if I'm being generous, they're too dumb to realize that rechargeable batteries are never at 100% out of the box because even a battery charged to 100% will lose some of its charge when sitting around unused so they instantly jumped to the conclusion that the battery only lasts 2 hours.

My problem in a Disney resort room isn't having enough USB and Electrical Outlets, but not having the right amount of cords! I have devices that some use USB-C and others use micro USB for charging. And I often find, e.g., I need to charge three micro-USB devices but only have two micro-USB cords. So, they have to take turns!

Pro-tip: If you bring a laptop, don't forget they have USB charging ports, too. If they're the right ones...

Has anyone who purchased through My Disney Experience on the website to get the pre-arrival discount actually received a confirmation e-mail? I bought bands for my wife and myself at 10 AM and got the confirmation screen with an Order Number, but still haven't received the confirmation e-mail that they said would arrive "shortly." Thankfully, I took a picture of the screen so I have the Order Number, but I really thought I'd have the e-mail by now since it's been over 3 hours since I purchased the bands.

I ordered on ShopDisney and haven't gotten the email either.

If anyone is hurting for converters, the fuel rods you buy tend to have USB-A output and some tiny adapters in the case. I tend to bring a big bag of cables to charge stuff overnight but just keep a big brick and a couple USB-A to C cables for during the day.

I haven't gotten any email but when I go to the MB page it still shows the order and confirmation number for the trip I matched it with. Also I ordered at like 7:45 this morning. I think they went live at midnight.

If you go back to the screen where you started, you should see the confirmation stuff there and the small icons of what you ordered near your avatars.

This is why we like the magnetic tips. We leave the tips in their respective devices (save for maybe the console switch, but we also haven't docked it yet so it actually has stayed put) so they can all use the same USB cord

Not necessarily true. A bunch of people were able to buy them a week or so ago when they were accidentally released. Could have had one since then.

In a vacuum that's a reasonable explanation but in practice we're talking about a blog that's notorious for clickbait-bordering-on-outright-lies and they seem to be the only outlet reporting a dead battery after two hours.

Not a big deal, if you want to charge MB+ you'll either bring an old USB-A charger or buy an adapter. If you're staying in a room that has an available USB A port either near the TV or in an outlet use that instead.

I don't think this is a big deal, maybe 5 or 10 years from now it will be reversed, buy an adapter if you want to use it with a USB-A charger.
I never said it was a big deal, just that USB-A is old and not what I'm getting with my new devices.... maybe confusing me with someone else?

There is also this weird thing in the advertisement where it says "pair with your phone." I wonder if it's constantly checking in with the phone for stuff if you didn't turn off your bluetooth there.

With Magic Mobile setup on an Apple Watch will it still work if you don’t have 4G on it or tether it with my phone as I was planning to not carry that around too?

I got a "thank you for your order" email within 15 minutes or so. They didn't appear immediately in MDE, but it's there now.

Unless they had gotten one when they incorrectly went on sale at Disney Springs about a month ago
