MagicBand+ announced

That was exactly it with GwtS. In the promotional video, the whole crowd has it and they look amazing. But for the initial rollout, the ears were larger than regular ears and not very comfy, and way more expensive. If they had made it like an add on you could add to any ears and made it smaller and cheaper, they would have had way more people participate.

Though even with not that many people wearing them, I wouldn't say it looked silly. Obviously the Wow effect is when the majority of the crowd has them. But as someone that saw World of Color multiple times during the GwtS era, even the smaller pockets of light from a few people looked very cool because of how it synced with the show.

Silly is probably the wrong word ... Just not impactful, maybe? Just loses the effect really

All reasonable points.

Perhaps a company that already makes cross-platform watch apps (who already can do the development, QA, etc) could copy the functionality of the MB+ and market it for half the price and save those who already are wearing a watch from having to wear two. It wouldn't be a replacement for MB+ but allow those who love their Apple/Google watch from having to double up.

Certainly feasible - not sure it's really viable though. Besides, Disney would probably tell you just use the MB experience on your existing device or... charge the same full price as a MB+ for someone looking for the MB+ experience and still get less (no LEDs, etc)

charging should not be an issue. any family that is even remotely adept at modern technology and smartphones and does any kind of leisure travel knows that they've got devices to charge and most likely has some solution in their cargo like a multi port usb charger, in addition to the fact that each year as more hotel rooms get refurbished throughout the US that many install USB ports in the rooms. if someone can't figure out how to charge multiple devices at once then maybe travel isn't for them

But another proprietary charger is a terrible decision. This will never be able to be sold in DLP after 2026. https://www.washingtonpost.com/tech...ope-usb-c-charging-rule-iphone-what-it-means/

The EU rules require that if a device has a charging port, it must be USB-C.

OR... they can go the route of wireless charging and have no port (or both).

The have not mandated uniformity in wireless charging units, tho, I suppose that's next.

Nor is there a mandate that the other end of a USB-C wire also be USB-C.

I really do not get the appeal of that. If I go and see Harmonious it is to see millions of dollars of hardware do its thing, not to watch some LEDs flash on my wrist.
Glow With the Show ears were awesome on nights when there was high penetration. It's not about YOUR wrist, it's about being in a "sea of people" who are all blinking to the same beat.

But you need a large percentage of the crowd to be wearing them for the effect to work.

Thanks for the FAQ. A proprietary plug on the band side? 🤦‍♂️ USB-C, or at least micro USB like all the existing cables out there now would have made too much sense.
It's not a plug, it's a pin-style charger like you'd see on a Fitbit. A USB port would not have been waterproof, which is the entire point of "wear everywhere" devices.

Meh, not for me. I still keep my MB in my pocket because i hate things on my wrist. Just take it out when needed then back in. This would be useless to me.

I still can't believe they haven't come up with one that has a watch face. I like something on my LEFT wrist (i.e. a watch, always), but I can't stand anything on my right wrist, and a MagicBand makes me choose.

May as well stick with MB2 unless your interested in getting distracted with flashy lights
I honestly hope they continue to sell (and invest in designs for) MB2.

Right now there are very few MB2 styles available (theoretically due to supply chain issues) but in a few days they are launching MB+ with 25 different designs. That will likely inflate the success of MB+ a bit since people will have to buy an MB+ unless they want one of the few remaining MB2 styles available.

I can see TDO deciding to stop investing in / phase out MB2 in favor of the more expensive MB+.

Hopefully they do that for you then! What i need is a smaller version of the MB, like quarter size so it can more comfortably fit in my pocket.
