MagicBand+ announced

I see the plain colored MagicBand 2 is now available again ($19.99) at ShopDisney. It's not as cheap as the first ones which I think were like 10 bucks.

I'm temped to buy MB2 for my wife and I and save a few dollars and then spring for the MagicBand+ for the kids so they light up during the shows. Will the MB2 still work for us to board rides? I would assume so if they're being sold. Or am I being cheap and should just make it simple and buy 5 MB+? $34.99 seems like another gouge to me. I was planning to just use the MDE mobile app for all of us to board rides, but others here convinced me it will be a huge PITA. And I have no interest in carrying around a pocket of plastic cards with names on them to hand out and collect. I want as stress free experience as possible.

I love the promo picture for the nighttime spectacular. Yes lets have people stare at there wrists vs. the actual show itself. In Harmonious' case that may not be such a bad thing though :p
I really do not get the appeal of that. If I go and see Harmonious it is to see millions of dollars of hardware do its thing, not to watch some LEDs flash on my wrist. I guess ultimately it probably came down to trying to justify the device's existence and stretch for features.

From my perspective , this is a way to keep rising prices. I will never understand why people are appealed to see lights and vibration. Finally, we will pay for the MB+ in order to be able to access to the parks. I think Disney have to solve more problems than sending a stuff with lights. Actually, I don't understand people

While I definitely get your point, the idea is that if enough people have these, you won't have to look at your arm, you'll see the extra lighting effects all through the crowd. That was the idea behind the Glow with the Show items at Disneyland, which I loved. Only problem is getting enough people to use them. If you look up the GwtS promotional video, it looks amazing. But you never saw that many people using it in practice. I'm hoping that since this is worked into something most WDW will get for their trip anyway, we'll see more people opting for MB+ over MB, and get some cool added effects to the night shows.

So you'll have to watch *someone else's* arm instead of your own. Got it.

I've been to two concerts with LED wristbands and the effect was cool, but I don't think enough people will have them at WDW for it to have the same impact.

I'm pretty excited with MB+. Why ? Because it's new, it will add some new stuff (galaxy's edge, with the statues...), because i find them nicer than classic MB, because i don't care about spending 40$ for useless things, especially in holidays . At least they will become good souvenirs.
And also because there is not a lot of new things since the last time we was in the parks, so i take everything.

For those unhappy, there is still the classics ones, at the same price.
