MagicBand+ announced

Do we know (or do we even have any credible rumors) whether these are going to exist alongside MagicBand 2 as an upgrade product, or if they're intended to be a replacement?
The announcement back in Sept 2021 said:
Current MagicBands will continue to be available, too, along with the complimentary Disney MagicMobile service that extends MagicBand features, such as park entry, to smart devices.

To me just seems odd. I think there really cool. But orginally I saw it as a way to leave wallet and phone at the hotel...in fact I did that way back in the day. But now you absolutely unequivocally need your phone....so this is like another thing? I guess...I just wish the phone element was gone.

So magic bands I got in 2021 probably won't work for ride photos in 2023? What about memory maker when they scan the band?
As said they can scan bands no issue. You can also put in requests for lost pics but I am 0 for 4 from Nov and so far 0 for 1 from a glitch on a ride 2 weeks ago. That could be the pics were down though. Caused me to buy new bands this year.

The selling point for me is it is rechargeable. I can stop buying bands to make sure my pics show up.
The one thing I like about the phone app is that your bluetooth in MDE will get the remote ride photos for you. So now I don't have to think about backup bands or swapping out pucks on the specialized bands I've bought over the years. I just wear those for entry and let my phone grab the pic at Slinky or HM. I agree though that a rechargeable band is quite useful. Definitely a selling point for me.

The phone app has not once worked for remote rides for me. Literally zero photos have showed up. It works for tapping photos but nothing remote. I've tried 3 trips now and 4 different phones (among us) have been attached and nada. Since it can mess with Gpay and Apple wallet for paying, I turned off the NFC auto scan when I got home on the 18th

I wonder if it's something with your settings in the app then. I remember when they first rolled that feature out that you had to enable it in mde and then obviously keep your bluetooth on and mde running when getting on rides. However, that was during a test period one our trip last spring, so it may be standard now. I forgot about it in the summer and lost a bunch of photos, but worked flawlessly again this January.

This was MDE also and not the wallet. They kind of make you have MDE running on your phone anyway these days if you want to check ride waits or use G+. I'll see if I can find the QR code anywhere and update the post with whatever URL it was sending to.

This URL is from an old image outside of RNRC. The first time I did it I had to enable mde to identify me like a powered mb.

And here is a pic I grabbed online from Disney Food Blog for the sign at HM:

You may have already set this up in the past but it's worth a shot.

I enabled it on my phone in June.... I remember getting the notice. My child's phone never got it but only brought his phone this past trip. Nor did the work phone for my spouse who had theirs in June 2021. Spouse doesn't recall getting it on personal phone. Mix of old and new and android and iPhone. It didn't work that trip or my 2 trips since. I had hoped it would but it didn't and I wound up with 4 missing photos in Nov.

Trust me I'm tech enough to know the difference with wallets and MDE and also smart enough to turn off NFC reading so I can keep my credit card at home. I prefer paying with a digital wallet now. Disney kinda sucks sometimes trying to go card less. Easier to wear a magic band

Just saw the QR code addition edit. Might give that a try. I assume something got hosed. I was so upset in Nov that it didn't work and I lost all photos. I wonder if there are good shots of that QR code online so I could try now... that one didn't work lol

The URL I posted earlier was from a scan of an old image on the site we can't post from. The haunted mansion one is similar:

These photos are a year old but are probably the same as what's there now. Good luck

I found a QR that worked. It brings me to my app and tells me to turn on settings for Bluetooth. They are....I went through all my permissions and show that bluetooth and location were on for MDE specifically. So who knows why. Maybe it was bad luck.

Yeah, sorry. Hopefully it works next time you're there.

Why cant Disney give these a watch face, or even add an accelerometer so it could track steps? As much as disney cares about its ecological footprint adding value outside of the park to me is a no brainer. It could easily be done and if you are a one time guest you could wear it when you leave, and it wouldnt end up in a drawer or the landfill. They could even make more money selling these because they make such cute watch bands disney fans would buy them like swatches, even if they arent going to the park.

Why not just add an Apple Watch app that has all of the same functions?

I believe they've already licensed a number of characters to Garmin for those who want kids Disney trackers. The more technology they put in these things, the more software updates they have to make when issues arise.

Yet no adult licenses (which is a missed boat) but even if they have more software the amount of product they would move would make up for it. Accelerometer and digital clock really wouldnt add much cost or upkeep for them, the ROI would be huge especially if they tapped into the fashion/fad market that wouldnt even need the park aspect.
you can get from walmart a fitbit knockoff with heart rate monitor even for 10 dollars. Which means that they are probably made for less than a dollar.

(just a quick google search, im sure you can get them even cheaper)

From an ecological, and roi pov its kind of a no brainer.

cost and fashion. Apple watch is currently almost 300 bucks for the SE. A magic band is 30 dollars (and could stay at that price point with a digital face and accelerometer) although disney could easily charge 50-60 with the additions.

How many people already collect magic bands or need one for the rundisney or mvmcp event? Make them a watch and step tracker and youve increased the people collecting and buying.

I just think that if they are trying to compete with several other fitness tracking and smartwatch brands, they'll get slayed. This is both on the hardware and software front. A light up gimmick toy that only works if you spend 5 grand to go to WDW/DL works better IMO.
