Magical Express bags?

I just got off the phone with reservations. Here's the dilemma - we are getting into Orlando at 9 pm and want to have our checked bags immediately. We are flying Delta. The cast member in reservations said no matter what I cannot pick up my own checked luggage and bring it myself to Magical Express bus loading area. :veryconfu

Is this true? I thought I remembered others on here saying that they picked up their own luggage from baggage claim and brought it to the DME buses themselves. Maybe this was just when they were on a non-participating airline...

What should I do to make sure my bags don't get taken straight to my resort with the rest of the Disney resort guests?

Thanks in advance!

It's really quite easy. Do not put the special tags on them that they send to you, then pick them up yourself. They will put them in the luggage place under your ME bus when you board, and when you arrive at your hotel, you'll be able to retrieve them right then. We've done this twice with no problem.

different question - same topic

How soon after YOU arrive at the hotel are your bags brought to your room? I'm trying to figure out how long we'll need to wait before heading for the parks that first day we arrive.

If you put anything you need urgently in carry on, your bags will be in your room when you get back from the parks. No need for you to be there.

Hubby and I used Magical express in Oct. 2005 and we also had an evening flight and we were worried about our luggage getting to our room so we went to baggage claim and picked up our luggage. However, when we inquired about this we were told it would be no problem as long as we did not put the magical express tags that they sent in the mail on our bags. We left the tags home and we picked up our own bags with no problems.
I have heard that it can take 3 or more hours for the bags to be delivered to your room if you let magical express pick them up for you!
I hope this info helps!

It can be several hours after you arrive at the hotel before your Magical Express bags arrive.
They come separately to the hotel and then have to be taken to the individual rooms along with everyone else's luggage.
It's a good service. Just don't hang around the room waitng for your bags.

Tks.
:) :)

Thanks so much everyone for your quick replies! So helpful!

I had heard the bags can take more than 3 hours to get to the room which would make it really late by the time they get to the room if you're arriving on a night flight. I'll skip the tags!:)

My experience has been 2-6hrs. Normally 3. We have used ME 6 times and love it. Went this past Dec. during holidays and went to lunch after check in. Came back after lunch and bags arrived. (Maybe 2 hrs.) Good Luck
Only 1 time did it take 6 hrs. Not the Norm.

if your bags are small engough to go in the overheads, and you do not have to check them, then you can bring you back to the ME bus once you land and you will have you bag when you get to your hotel. I have been doing this for 2 years now and I find it much better then having to wait for your bags.

We used to do that too, but with the new federal regs about liquids and what not, we've found it's easier to just check our bags and not worry about it.

I thought you can have liquids on in your bag it just has to be a certain Oz. of them.
3 ounces, and they must be in a ziplock bag. DD had a small bottle of B&B lotion that they threw out because it wasn't in a ziplock. It's just easier for me to check the bag and be done with it. JMO

Yes, you can carry-on liquids and gels, but they all must be 3oz or less and they all must be put in a quart sized ziploc bag and go thru the x-ray machine by themselves. Even if people were going to use liquids to blow up planes, x-raying them isn't going to do diddly. More TSA nonsense.

OK Points to be addressed:
Yes you absolutely can get your bags at Baggage claim ( DONT put on the yellow tags in your DME booklet) and bring them with you to the Welcome center. AS Nemo said they will go on the bus with you. Particularly good if you are arriving late.
Bags can take up to 6 hours but the norm is indeed three as previously mentioned.
3 oz ( Travel size) of liquids are allowed as log as they are in a clear quart sized ziploc bag. As Nemo said, I do find it easier to just pack and check any liquids ( gels, shampoo, aerosols etc) that might even constitute a problem and let it go through security that way. So far no issues!!!!
Hope this helps! Belle

Last time we stayed at Port Orleans Riverside, we decided that we wanted to handle our own bags, even though we had Magical Express reservations. For that reason, we didn't use the yellow tags. When my bag didn't show up on the luggage carousel, I assumed the airline had lost it, especially since everyone else's bags DID appear. I notified the airline and, depressed, headed for the Magical Express line.

Long story short, I had a Disney luggage tag (NOT a Magical Express tag) on my bag, clearly indicating my name and home address. Magical Express personnel saw the ID tag, checked my name against their passenger list, and grabbed my bag ANYWAY!!!!

Happy ending - it DID arrive at the resort about four hours later - but next time, I will just use the yellow tags. Use a carry-on for anything you're going to need immediately upon arrival at WDW, and check the rest. It'll show up.

From what I have seen at security checkpoints from 4 different security screenings and several different screenings before visiting museums in the past week, i believe that the x-ray machines can detect liquids as the pictures on the screen showed the contents of water bottles to be orange. I do not understand why they have to be in a bag and maybe the three ounces might limit it to medications or a level of liqids that are not combustable. But otherwise I have no idea.

The bag thing puzzled me too. The security guy told me that if I had a ziplock bag to put the lotion in, she could take it on the plane.
We saw a man in a similar situation at the Orlando airport with one of those sippy cups that has an inner wall then the outside is filled with glitter and water. They told him that if he could fit it in a ziplock he could take it on the plane.

I think we are going to leave our luggage to Disney to take care of. However, I was wondering when we would get it. We check in at midnight. Now I don't care if they come through the middle of the night to give it to us, so long as we have it first thing in the morning. Can someone tell me if they deliver luggage to the rooms throughout the night?
