Magical Express and a wheel chair??

My step dad has been having a lot of health issues and he has a trip planned for my mom and him to go to Disney with us in Sept. They will be flying in and are planning on using Disneys Magical Express. He was just told by his DR. to order an electric wheelchair. My question is, can he use ME with the chair? Should he leave it at home and rent one there? He really needs it because he has been falling so much lately.

Any advice?

I'd suggest that you call [FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Disney's Magical Express Guest Services at (866) 599-0951 and ask about transportation with an ECV. I expect they have some method of doing so but I have no personal experience to call on.

There are motor coaches designed to accomodate loading scooters and wheelchairs, but they are special coaches. I have never seen one being used as ME since you have to take out seats in order to have the scooter on the coach. I would really recommend talking to ME.

...and post any info you learn on here! It's always good to learn new info to be referenced in the future. :)

Just idle speculation: because DME is operated by Mears, they may use a wheelchair-accessible Mears van or bus to transport those Guests who need it.

This is what I was afraid of, I'll call them today and see what they say. I'm not even sure yet about the flight either. They may be better off just renting one once they get there. :veryconfu

Update: I just called them and they said that they can accommodate wheelchairs that at no bigger than 35 inches wide and 53 inches long. They can not accommodate Amigo brand scooters. We will have to call them for a special motor coach to pick them up at the airport. This is great news because we won't have to worry so much about him if we do this.

Thanks so much for your help!! :)

My sister uses an EVC. We have used Magical Express 3 times already with the EVC. Just let them know before your trip and they will note it on your ME reservation. Once you arrive at the ME Kiosk, they will assist you.

If you can walk up the steps, they can store the EVC in the luggage compartment. If not, you will have to wait for a special bus with an elevator that you can drive the EVC onto.

Either way, it's possible, and the cast members are most helpful once you get there.
