This project is about to come to reality, with the launch of the new light concept scheduled on Friday, September 12, after several weeks of programming throughout the summer, and months of preliminary work.
The renovation included the replacement of over 640 luminaires – requiring over 17 kilometres of cabling – the modernisation of technical equipment, and the creation of new technical access points to facilitate maintenance operations. In total, the new light display features about 48,000 lighting points, offering new possibilities to the creative team of the destination. At the same time, repainting of the roof of the attraction is ongoing and will be completed shortly.
This upgrade will deliver a breathtaking experience – not only for passengers aboard Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain, but also for all Discoveryland guests, who will be able to enjoy the stunning light effects – forming a loop lasting about 16 minutes – generated each time a vehicle launches.
As well as restoring the attraction’s majestic roof to its original splendour, the new lighting will feature all-new effects to enhance this iconic Discoveryland landmark.
I wonder if this will get tackled when the ride goes down for it's eventual delayed refurb as it interfaces with the track?Shame the original animated canon lighting didn’t get attention though.
If I’m not mistaken it’s from the new NautilusAnyone know what this music is from? I had assumed it was just some generic copyright free music YouTube provides but Twitter has suggested it could be something to be used in Discoveryland in the future - I feel that is unlikely but I don't dislike the idea. I don't recognise it from any music used in Discoveryland or DLP?
The exterior strobes could have been done with the recent work. Long lost effect but relatively easy to replace - and they’re way outside of the ride envelopeI wonder if this will get tackled when the ride goes down for it's eventual delayed refurb as it interfaces with the track?
Ah cool. I was not a fan of the Nautilus revamp so didn't spent too much time in there, I think the music fits Space Mountain better than it does Nautilus. If I’m not mistaken it’s from the new Nautilus
I agree but just knowing how many DLP projects are phased I can see it being discussed to be done but as the launch 'tube' area is likely going to be a lot of work done during the eventual internal refurb they would have come to the conclusion it is more efficient to wait until a later date. The exterior strobes could have been done with the recent work. It will be interesting to see where SM now sits in the schedule with Indy and BTM Phase 2.
incase anyone wants more SM lighting
Couple of details missing the original had but obviously this version has more elsewhere !Very nice! I let out an audible "OH!" when I first saw the blue lighting.
Dare I say it's probably not looked better than it does now?
