Trip Report Magical Business Trip, May at the Beach Club

Hi everyone! I finally got my photos uploaded, so I guess I'll get this thing started. It'll be a short one!

Who: Me and my husband R (previous trip reports linked in my signature)
When: May 3-6
Why: R had an annual meeting in Naples, so we tagged a WDW trip to the beginning.
Where: Beach Club

Travel Day! (text heavy)

We both worked a half-day on the 3rd and headed out of town around 1:15. We had to fly out of Nashville, unfortunately, which is about a 2 hour drive and neither of us particularly likes being in Nashville. Memphis has really limited their nonstops though, so we may have to suck it up and drive the extra hour from now on

I kept getting calls from the same number, so I finally decided to google it, and it was Southwest. When I checked the app, I saw our flight was delayed by about a half hour. As we were coming into Nashville, R asked if I wanted to stop anywhere, so I directed him to McKay's (a huge used bookstore). I found 5 books in 30 minutes, which is really a lot for that place! It is HUGE and I always have a hard time finding anything, but I was pleased.

We continued on to the airport and the long-term lot was full, meaning we had to park economy. We always choose the more expensive option when his company is paying :hilarious:. We were annoyed, but they're doing a lot of construction, so I think they had a garage closed off. We got into the airport and through security quickly, then stopped at Quiznos. We thought we might get to Disney early enough for a late dinner, but with the flight delay, we didn't want to chance being starving.

The airport was slammed, and the flight leaving before ours was super late, which is what threw ours off. We ended up leaving about an hour late, and arrived in Orlando at 8:40pm.

Guess who was on the plane with us? A BUNCH OF CHEERLEADERS. It was a sign of what the parks would look like. The flight attendant got sassy with them because they couldn't decide where to sit. He said "They all land at the same time, just pick one" :hilarious:

Got our special bands on! Ignore my watch telling me I've been lazy.

Finally stopped for a picture with the Mickey!

We waited longer than normal for the bags to start moving, but we eventually got ours and headed of to Magical Express.

There was a little bit of a backup at the checkin for ME. There were four lines, and they all seemed to be having problems. I think people just didn't have their stuff together because we scanned our bands and were through with no issues.

At this point, I decided to call Beach Club because I hadn't received a text. Last time this happened we waited at the front desk forever at like 2am, and I was not going to let that happen again even though it was earlier.

While I was being transferred, we hopped on the bus. We ended up sitting there 20 minutes before we took off and not one more person got on after us  Whatever.

I was able to get my room assignment over the phone, and he pushed the text to me so I wouldn't forget it. It was 5th floor, and my interest was piqued. I know the Beach Club is not tall, and I know that club level rooms are usually high floors. Hmmmm....

I did some googling, but didn't find anything that made me absolutely certain, and I didn't want to get my hopes up.

---------------

We arrived at our resort around 10:15/30 and stopped in the marketplace for a snack. I wanted donuts and R wanted a cookie, and for some reason he seemed to think we shouldn’t get both because we didn't need that much food. I was not having that...I got us both. Ha

We got on the elevator and hit 5 and nothing happened. Then the door opened and some other people came in and were also going to 5. But since we’d already pushed the button, they didn’t do anything and again we just sat there...They had just arrived too, and we finally realized we were supposed to scan our band otherwise the elevator wouldn’t go anywhere. Once that happened, I knew we had indeed been upgraded. Score!

I guess the bubbles are supposed to be hidden mickeys? There were some better ones, but this was the only picture I took.

The lounge was already closed, and it was late so I didn't take room photos. I was gushing over this room though! And the view!

The room was super clean and fresh feeling, spacious, nice decor. There are almost no Disney touches though, which is disappointing and no bed runners! :hilarious: We turned in for the night after we ate our treats.

My Mom and I were really curious about what they were :joyfull:
AHHH that makes me so sad!! They are all over the place here, and I just love them. Especially if they're in front of like an Antebellum home or something. Ugh...beautiful. I also used to climb in the one at my grandma's house in Mississippi, so I have memories attached to Magnolias (I realize that makes me sound ultra-southern).

Such a lovely photo of you. I love your t-shirt, shoes and your purple bun!
Thank you! The bun was definitely a last resort as my hair was definitely due for a wash :joyfull: but the purple made it more fun.

Some people don't know about magnolias?!! :jawdrop: My mind is blown because I'm also from the south lol. But this does remind me of a funny story. R and I were at some historical site here in VA and there was a tour group of older people, not from the south. Where ever they were from obviously did not have lilacs because these women were losing their minds over these plants!! Seriously that's all they talked about entire tour! Which was driving me crazy because they kept pronouncing it as lie-LOCK instead of lie-LACK.

It is Li-locks! :cautious: :joyfull:

LOL. I like debates over how to pronounce peony :) People in the same geographical say that one differently. For some reason, I pronounce it the opposite way from the person I'm talking to. Just sure why - maybe just to be annoying :joyfull:
@Rista1313 I definitely say lie-LACK too (sorry!)...I have never heard it the other way before! How do you say peony? Pee-uny is how I usually say it.

your pictures are just stunning.
Thanks so much!

I say it Pee-Owny... must be my northern nasel twang!

I've heard it pronounced both of these ways. A gardening magazine posted a peony pronunciation quiz on their FB page and it was almost an even split with like 51% saying pee-uny and 49% saying pee-owny :)

Last Park Day - May 6th

We had very, very loose plans for this day. It was our departure day, but we didn't have to be down in Naples at any specific time, so we were free to leave whenever. R did decide he wanted to be in bed by midnight, so we figured with driving and checking in we should leave by at least 8 to be safe.

So that left us a good 12 hours to play with!

We got up around 7, and R called for a shuttle to pick us up at 7:50 to go get our rental car.

When the time came, we headed down to meet the shuttle. I don't know why I went, but R acted like he wanted me to tag along, so I did. The shuttle was there right on time, and the driver was the same guy that picked R up back in August. He's a hoot!

When we got to the Disney Car Care Center, we headed in and had the keys within probably 5 minutes. This place is kind of janky looking inside, but they got the job done! We ended up with a red Audi Q3. I don't care for red cars, but hey...I'm not driving it. It also didn't have a way for us to play music through out phones, which was frustrating. Even my crappy mitsubishi has that!

When we were about to leave, R realized his phone was missing. Thankfully the shuttle was still there (though about to pull away) and his phone was wedged in between the seats where it fell out of his pocket. I was secretly so happy this happened to him because I am CONSTANTLY losing stuff and he gets on me about it. But I was nice and didn't gloat :hilarious:

We parked back at the Beach Club, then went in to say goodbye to our room and get our bags. As we were leaving the lady at the desk asked if we were leaving and checked us out. I didn't realize we needed to do that! Oops. She may have just been checking to make sure we were satisfied with our stay, who knows.

I enjoyed one last cup of coffee with this view.

We packed our stuff up pretty quick (did most of that the night before), and headed out for our first park a little after 9. I was thankfully able to convince R to drive instead of bussing. He is weird about it, but I think he sees now how nice it is. He just doesn't like the parking process for some reason.

Got to see DiVine!

Since there were extra magic hours that morning, the front was pretty clear by the time we got there. R was nice and suggested going to see Festival of the Lion King since he usually doesn't want to do it, and he knows I love it. We headed there for the first show of the day.

I had people's heads in a lot of my shots, but I tried to make the best of it.

Sorry so many pictures...I just love the tumble monkeys!

Last Park Day continued - May 6th

See the woman leading the little girl in the bottom right of the photo? That's the trolley girl I met the day before! I had forgotten she was in this show now too. I remember seeing it on her instagram now. Hope she didn't see me and think I was a stalker :hilarious:

Timon is FEELIN it!

The cast was different than most of the other times we've gone. Not sure if some have moved on or if we just happened to get a whole different cast. It was still good! The guy playing the leader has a really unique voice.

After the show it was raining (surprise, surprise), so we threw on our jackets and headed toward Pandora. Once again people were acting like they would melt in the slight drizzle. :joyfull: At least it made the path to Pandora pretty clear.

We rode Flight of Passage, and I don't have a single picture from Pandora to prove it, thanks to the rain.

I looked around and noticed we were the very bottom left two seats in our theater, and I didn't notice any difference or distortion like I do in Soarin. It was still an excellent ride at that spot!

We still had a bit of time before our next FP, so we meandered to the Tree of Life and looked around the shops.

Got me a dreary photo with the tree

Pointing at R because my shirt says "Every day with you is the best day ever" :inlove: I know, so cheesy.

I knew R wanted to see the new UP! bird show, and there was one coming up at 11:30 (I think?) that would leave us a few minutes to get to Everest after.

We grabbed a Mickey bar on the way.

I want one right now

As you can see, we were having a little photo shoot :joyfull:

No more Baloo! So glad I met him last trip.

I like the additions to the stage.

I had a clear view until about 1 minute before the show  oh well.

The show is....fine. R was disappointed, he liked the old one better. I did like seeing the new birds with new skills, but honestly Dug and Russell were kind of awkward. I'm chalking it up to this being a new show with kinks to work out, and I'll definitely give it another shot. I just think the interaction between the hosts/trainers with the UP characters could be a little smoother. I did NOT miss Guano Joe though :hilarious:

After the show, we headed off to use our Everest FP.

I made it on the screen!!

Thankfully it wasn't raining when we rode, and it was an excellent ride.

After the ride, we decided to head out and hop over to Epcot.

Up next: Epcot and a magical encounter!

Last Park Day continued - May 6th

We got a pretty crappy parking spot at Epcot, so we had a long walk to the park (tram would have been a long walk too). There appears to be a spot for security and bag check on the side we came from (left side), but it wasn't open so I had to go through the busy side. It wasn't terrible, thankfully.

We headed into World Showcase and I decided I’d get a violet lemonade first since it’s right there. As I was getting in line, I look up and see a familiar face right in front of me, @Tuvalu! What are the chances?! We stood and chatted for a few minutes. They had just made their way around WS and were as fed up with the rain as we were.

It was so fun talking with her and Woody for a bit, and I'm so glad she spotted me! I honestly had forgotten that we'd have an overlapping day, since I wasn't really sure what our plans were this day or if we'd even stay around. It was just great luck that we were in the same place!

We said our goodbyes and I hopped in line for my violet lemonade. R got a beer
  • Maui Brewing Co. Pineapple Mana Wheat, Kihei, HI – $4.25

We continued on toward France next and saw these ladies on the bridge.

I couldn't hear what they were talking about, but the cart was cute :)

The rain started back at some point while we were walking, but I was determined to have some good eats. We've eaten from kiosks at Epcot in the rain before, and it's absolutely miserable. But sometimes you do what you gotta do!

We got the gnocchi from France again and it was even better this time!

My main item I wanted was the fried cauliflower, and we got that next. They left off the capers though. Also they tried to give mine to the person who checked out behind me and I said something...I normally wouldn’t have, but I wasn’t thinking...I was just ready to eat that stuff again. She looked at me like I was being rude, but hey...I ordered first!

I want some of this again

Cauli flowler :hilarious:

We walked around the store in Japan for a little bit.

As we were leaving Japan, I saw a girl I follow on Instagram getting some shaved ice from that little stand. I said hi real quick. I felt bad for interrupting her snack, but she didn't seem to mind. I didn't keep her too long.

She's @hazel_and_bean on instagram, and she sells the cutest painted shoes!

Next we got some ravioli in Italy. R ate that, I didn’t like it.

I had to make a stop for my favorite caramel treat :hungry: No, not the lady...or the apple. The popcorn! Yum! The line was hella long, but we endured.

We also got the dumplings at China after getting some cups of water in the quick service place. The dumplings were crispier this time, which I liked a lot!

Next we stopped at the Berry Basket, which we didn't do in March. Here's what we got:
  • Warm Wild Berry Buckle with Pepper Berry Gelato (V) – $4.50
  • Twinings® Green Tea Berry Mint Julep – $8.75
  • Twinings Green Tea Berry Mint Julep (Non-alcoholic) – $4.25

SO. GOOD. I had the non-alcoholic one, and it was just as good as the violet lemonade in my book. YUM. So sad I didn't try this in March so I could have it twice. The berry buckle was also amazing. I highly, highly recommend it if any of you go to the festival next year and the dish is back!

I went off to meet Pluto and R sat and sipped on his mint julep. He said some kid came walking by on the ledge he was sitting on and was very annoyingly yelling "EXCUSE ME." R moved the bag so he could pass and he still kept saying "EXCUSE ME" until R got up off the ledge. When he got up, the bag hit his drink and spilled it  He was NOT amused with this kid. Why was he walking on the ledge? Where were his parents? Why couldn't he walk by on the soil? Why was he so annoying? :hilarious: His impression of the "EXCUSE ME" was quite funny.

Last Park Day - May 6th

I was in line for Pluto and a family with a service dog came up behind me. IT WAS SO CUTE!!! It's so hard to see a cute pup and not be able to pet it. But I don't pet other people's dogs ever unless I know them anyway, and of course would never pet a service dog. But seriously it's like my hands start itching to scratch some ears... :hilarious:

Soon it was my turn!

I got a hug and told Pluto I loved his energy, which prompted him to jump around with me. It was silly and I loved it.

Love this little pupper!

Not a great picture, but I tried to be a creep and get a shot of that service dog. Isn't she pretty?! They had a hard time getting her to look at the photographer OR Pluto. I'm assuming she was trained not to give any attention to anyone but her handler. She stood with her back to the photographer for a while :hilarious: They eventually got her to give Pluto "kisses" meaning she was sniffing his nose...haha

I just can't deal with the cuteness! We have a bulldog mascot at work and I love when the mascot walks the real bulldog around at ballgames and other events.

We headed out to the monorail next. Stopped at the fountain for a quick photo.

Said goodbye to Donald and the boys

Earlier I had gotten us a FP for Buzz since we missed out last night, so that was on our agenda. We made it to MK at about 4.

When we got there it was still raining :arghh:. I ducked into the bathroom really quick, then we headed down Main Street via the Emporium.

The Dapper Dans were singing inside as we were coming by, but they were just finishing up.

We headed over to Tomorrowland and got on the PeopleMover to get out of the rain.

He looks so pleasant :hilarious:

After our ride through Tomorrowland, it was time to use our Buzz FP. While in line, I made another one for Pooh.

R got Galactic Hero and I didn’t, so I was definitely pouting in the picture. I don’t think my gun was working right! I could see the red dot hitting the targets but my score didn’t go up. Dumb. :cautious:

I made him take a picture since he doesn't care about getting a sticker.

Up Next: More MK

QUICK INTERRUPTION. My mom is at Disneyland right now with my cousins and she is texting me to tell me all about the new stuff :hilarious: I had to gently remind her that I am obsessed with Disney and already know all the things she is telling me. "They are building a huge Star Wars land!" :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

Ok back to our MK time.

We headed over to ride Pooh next and while in line there I got a FP for Haunted Mansion.

It was getting close to time for us to head out, but I couldn’t help making more FPs! Pooh was fun as usual, and we didn’t have anyone in the honey pot with us so we could be silly.

Whew these are noisy/grainy, sorry.

I feel like we had some time after this FP, but I can’t remember. We rode HM next though, and then I made one for Pirates. The first room in HM (before the stretching room) was RANK with all the wet people in there. Bleah...glad we didn’t stay in there long.

Either I moved while taking this or there are really ghosts in there  I'm going with the later :hilarious:

Pirates was next so we got our two favorites in last before we left. We headed out after this.

Absolutely stunning photograph.

On the monorail back to our car

And that's all!

I REALLY wanted to go to Disney Springs to check out the Disney Style store that had a soft opening that day and grab something to eat, but R seemed like he didn’t want to mess with parking. He is weird about that for some reason...but it’s not like the parking garages are a million miles away or something. Oh well. He regretted it when we were like an hour into our drive before we found somewhere to eat. Google took us some dumb backroad way, so we just went through a bunch of little dinky towns.

We had no trouble getting checked into the hotel in Naples and the rest of the trip was just meetings and beach time!

I spent most of my time on our balcony reading (we had a great beach view and it was quiet) but I took a walk on the beach while R was in meetings. It was nice! He walked with me the second day.

This is at the big dinner on the last night. We forgot to get a picture before, so this was after a filling meal and some trivia. It was pretty fun!

Next trip is July 20-23! I'll be in the parks the 22nd and 23rd, hopefully with @blgauger :D I tried to make her FPs at 60 days, but her pass wasn't valid for then :hilarious: Oh well...we'll wing it! I've got my cooling fan necklace and my frogg togg ready to go.
