Trip Report Magical Business Trip, May at the Beach Club

Hi everyone! I finally got my photos uploaded, so I guess I'll get this thing started. It'll be a short one!

Who: Me and my husband R (previous trip reports linked in my signature)
When: May 3-6
Why: R had an annual meeting in Naples, so we tagged a WDW trip to the beginning.
Where: Beach Club

Travel Day! (text heavy)

We both worked a half-day on the 3rd and headed out of town around 1:15. We had to fly out of Nashville, unfortunately, which is about a 2 hour drive and neither of us particularly likes being in Nashville. Memphis has really limited their nonstops though, so we may have to suck it up and drive the extra hour from now on

I kept getting calls from the same number, so I finally decided to google it, and it was Southwest. When I checked the app, I saw our flight was delayed by about a half hour. As we were coming into Nashville, R asked if I wanted to stop anywhere, so I directed him to McKay's (a huge used bookstore). I found 5 books in 30 minutes, which is really a lot for that place! It is HUGE and I always have a hard time finding anything, but I was pleased.

We continued on to the airport and the long-term lot was full, meaning we had to park economy. We always choose the more expensive option when his company is paying :hilarious:. We were annoyed, but they're doing a lot of construction, so I think they had a garage closed off. We got into the airport and through security quickly, then stopped at Quiznos. We thought we might get to Disney early enough for a late dinner, but with the flight delay, we didn't want to chance being starving.

The airport was slammed, and the flight leaving before ours was super late, which is what threw ours off. We ended up leaving about an hour late, and arrived in Orlando at 8:40pm.

Guess who was on the plane with us? A BUNCH OF CHEERLEADERS. It was a sign of what the parks would look like. The flight attendant got sassy with them because they couldn't decide where to sit. He said "They all land at the same time, just pick one" :hilarious:

Got our special bands on! Ignore my watch telling me I've been lazy.

Finally stopped for a picture with the Mickey!

We waited longer than normal for the bags to start moving, but we eventually got ours and headed of to Magical Express.

There was a little bit of a backup at the checkin for ME. There were four lines, and they all seemed to be having problems. I think people just didn't have their stuff together because we scanned our bands and were through with no issues.

At this point, I decided to call Beach Club because I hadn't received a text. Last time this happened we waited at the front desk forever at like 2am, and I was not going to let that happen again even though it was earlier.

While I was being transferred, we hopped on the bus. We ended up sitting there 20 minutes before we took off and not one more person got on after us  Whatever.

I was able to get my room assignment over the phone, and he pushed the text to me so I wouldn't forget it. It was 5th floor, and my interest was piqued. I know the Beach Club is not tall, and I know that club level rooms are usually high floors. Hmmmm....

I did some googling, but didn't find anything that made me absolutely certain, and I didn't want to get my hopes up.

---------------

We arrived at our resort around 10:15/30 and stopped in the marketplace for a snack. I wanted donuts and R wanted a cookie, and for some reason he seemed to think we shouldn’t get both because we didn't need that much food. I was not having that...I got us both. Ha

We got on the elevator and hit 5 and nothing happened. Then the door opened and some other people came in and were also going to 5. But since we’d already pushed the button, they didn’t do anything and again we just sat there...They had just arrived too, and we finally realized we were supposed to scan our band otherwise the elevator wouldn’t go anywhere. Once that happened, I knew we had indeed been upgraded. Score!

I guess the bubbles are supposed to be hidden mickeys? There were some better ones, but this was the only picture I took.

The lounge was already closed, and it was late so I didn't take room photos. I was gushing over this room though! And the view!

The room was super clean and fresh feeling, spacious, nice decor. There are almost no Disney touches though, which is disappointing and no bed runners! :hilarious: We turned in for the night after we ate our treats.

Not a fan of the Magic shot Mickey Bar, as it is abnormally large (almost balloon size). Of course I am not a fan of Mickey bars, so what do I know? :joyfull:

BTMRR begins operating with only one side open (but two trains) and then adds trains (2 for the other side) as crowds build, usually 60-90 minutes after opening. Typically both sides then remain open until closing time.

Omg, I HATE when people talk baby talk to their kids (that aren't actual babies or small toddlers)! There's a woman at my work that does this constantly to her kids that are like 7 and 9 or something. I can't stand listening to her on the phone with them, it's so ridiculous! They are normal people, just small people, and they can understand the English language! I always feel bad for the kids, like they're probably so embarrassed. HaHa!

That was a lot and I cut out a bunch :hilarious: Sorry, guys. I can't help it! It's so much fun to shoot!

I got brave and talked to Chrissy. I follow her on Instagram, and hopefully I didn't freak her out when I called her by her actual name

She was very sweet! I've never talked to the trolley girls of guys after the show, because they always gravitate toward the kids (understandable), but I was glad I got to chat with her. She was definitely "in character" but still just felt like you were talking to a regular person. We even talked about the redhead since we told her we were headed to Pirates.

Since R had endured yet another Trolley Show, which he hates, it was only fitting he gets to do his favorite thing next, right? So we headed to Pirates for our FP.

Well we got to Pirates and I bet you'll be SO SHOCKED to hear that it was down . Almost every time we try to ride it, I feel like it's down. No matter, we'd just use the FP later. R suggested Jungle Cruise since he knows I like it, and we hadn't ridden in a while. We practically walked right on.

Are you inspired?

Our skipper was pretty good. The boat was boring, and the poor girl had to keep telling these two kids to sit down. Seriously at least 4 times during the ride. Their dad was taking pictures, so I could see why he didn't notice them, but the mom had to have seem them standing and leaning out. I was thinking LAWD we're going to have a rescue situation here in a minute when that kid falls out. I don't know why people don't listen!

He looks so innocent :joyfull:

After our cruise, we went over to see if Sunshine Tree Terrace was open and it was. When I ordered I said “Can I try….” instead of “Can I have…” because in my head I was still deciding… and the CM looked at me like I was a nut. She thought I wanted a taste test. :hilarious: Finally she realized I was just ordering it. I tried (there's that word again) an orange cream float and it was good! Definitely much different than the citrus swirl, but I like it. I’ve always liked orange creamsicle stuff though. I think I'll probably get citrus swirl in the future though because the orange cream flavor is something I can get a Sonic.

Awwww.....Carrots of the Pirabbean is one of my favorites. My DD and I did it like 6 times at DLP in October. It would make me so sad if it was down!! Jungle cruise is great, too, though. Did those kids maybe not speak English? If they were from a different country, maybe they didn't understand. But it drives me nuts when parents let their kids just do whatever they want!

After our yummy orange treat, I checked and Pirates was still down. We went toward Haunted Mansion, but it was up to a 30 minute wait so I decided we should wait on that, and I could get a rolling FP for it later.

We stopped by the Tangled Toilets and then went to It’s a Small World with a 10 min wait.

I just love the aesthetic of this ride! I think I appreciate it more every time I ride it.

We were hungry enough for lunch at this point, so we headed toward Casey’s and stopped to watch the show with the sword behind the carousel. The Sword in the Stone is R's favorite Disney movie, so I knew he'd be up for watching this. I do not understand how it's his favorite...I watched it recently and it's kind of a mess of a film :hilarious: but I guess since he watched it a lot growing up, it's special.

R got chosen to try pulling the sword out, and turns out he's a sorcerer :hilarious:. He was a good sport and hammed it up. Of course he wasn’t the hero...a little girl dressed as Rapunzel was. It was a cute show.

After that we went to Casey’s where I had mobile ordered, but it wasn’t busy so I didn’t need to. We couldn’t find a table at first, and I had a mini fit at all the people just sitting at tables with no food...I was so irritated, I just wanted to sit and eat! R gets embarrassed because I definitely talk loud enough for people to hear me :joyfull:. I guess when I'm hot and tired and hungry, it's a bad time to be in my way!

Eventually someone got up and we moved from the standing table we found to one where we could sit. It was nice!

I regret not getting the fiesta dog for Cinco de Mayo, but I tried the corn dog nuggets. They were fine, and I'd probably get them again, but it was a lot of food and I didn’t finish it. I wish they'd bring back the bbq slaw dog!

After lunch, I checked the app and Pirates was back up so we went to use our FP on it. It wasn’t super crowded over there thankfully. Apparently I didn't like our photo enough to download it. We were in the back row so I'm sure you couldn't even see us :hilarious:

When we got out, we headed toward Frontierland, and I stopped by the pin store to buy my customary boxes and mystery bags. I wasn't as lucky this time as in March, but I did get one of the pins I've been wanting out of a mystery box! Only one more to go in that set! (It's the Small World set)

We still had a while before our next FP, so I begged R to go to Country Bears since we hadn't been in FOREVER. He hates it, but I love it. I wore him down, and it was as fun as ever! The rest of the theater was into it, so that always makes it more fun.

When we left the Country Bears, we still had to wait for our FP, so we stood over by the entrance to the train station in Frontierland.

He wouldn't smile  so I took one by myself...

It was finally time, so went over to use our Splash FP and got SOAKED, but not where you’d think. The splash from the other logs going down got us as we went by. The family in front of us (the rest of our log) was really animated and talkative. I felt bad we were in the background of all their selfies :hilarious:

When I say we were soaked, I'm being serious. Well R was more so than me because he was on the right side. That splash from the log going down the hill was like someone emptied a 50 gallon bucket onto our whole group! It was crazy! That was the first time that's ever happened to us, and R was not amused :hilarious: At least the newer iphones are basically waterproof, so no worries about that.

When we got off Splash, we headed back toward the hub and decided to just wait the 35 minutes for HM since we had 30 minutes until our next FP anyway. It was a long wait for us, but we survived. I normally don't like to wait more than 15 minutes for the mansion...I just don't enjoy this queue until you get to the fun stuff, which takes a while.

I love these roses.

Madame Leota was checking things out and making sure we were filling in all available space.

I was able to get on the right side of the stretching room so we could get out and get to the line and avoid the bottleneck. It was a good ride! Worth the wait as usual.

As we exited the mansion it was raining a little, and they had someone in the exit hallway warning people, so we were able to get our jackets out while we walked and not clog up the exit. People were huddled under all the overhangs like it was pouring buckets, when it was really a light sprinkle. It was comical.

We could barely get through the space next to Memento Mori for all the people huddled under there, but we finally pushed our way through and we did not melt from the sprinkling rain

Our next FP was for Seven Dwarves and the sprinkle quit as we were walking over. We left our jackets on just in case.

I made us another FP for a ride nearby, but first I had a snack I wanted to try since we were in the area.

Loaded buffalo chicken tots from the Friars Nook. These were great!! We shared them and I could have licked the plate. As we were finishing up, the rain picked up and all the people came in where all the tables were. When some lady sat down at our table with us, that was our cue to head out :hilarious:

We had someone sit down with us too and start gabbing my away like they knew us. Awkward! We left after a few minutes-politely. No one has just sat down like that before.

The Sword in the Stone has always been on my my favorites (and my husband's too)! I've loved it since I was a little girl. When we found out that his young niece has never heard of it we felt it necessary to get her her own copy to rectify that travesty :) I couldn't help but laugh when you were talking about complaining loudly when you couldn't find a table at Casey's. R always tells me that he can't take me anywhere because I do similar things. He hates it but there are some pet peeves that trigger me and I just can't stay quiet.

There was one trip we took to WDW where there was a group of people in MK that were acting afraid of rain drops. Honestly, though, these couldn't even be called rain drops...or sprinkles...more of a light misting rain. But these people were acting like it was a torrential downpour! Ponchos, umbrellas, and hunkering under any eave they could find. It was so funny I had to take a picture of it. PhotoPass photographers were still out taking pictures LOL. I still chuckle at that memory :)

Ugh!! I HATE it when people take up tables when they don't have food. And I guess you can't be sure that they don't have someone in line getting the food while they save a table, but seriously, if it's taking that long to order, you could be done eating by the time their food runner came out and they needed the table. Another pet peeve, people who use the tables that people put food on to change their baby's diapers. Disgusting.

After our tots break, we headed to Under the Sea, which I think we've only ridden together once or twice. I just always forget about it, but I enjoy it!

I love this part :D

Under the Sea is R's favorite song from a Disney movie, so he likes the ride

I tried getting us a FP for Buzz next, but no luck, so I made one for after dinner hoping we’d go back.

We went through Tomorrowland hoping to do the Peoplemover, but it was a long line. I’m annoyed that everyone has caught on...it’s not like the wait is long, but it’s longer than it used to be. And when it's raining, water pools in that area and it's just messy. We figured we should just forego it for now and head out. Of course I stopped for a purple wall picture since my hair was purple (though super dirty :hilarious:)

My face describes how I feel about the weather.

There were several groups of people stopping to take pictures over there by the new patterned part. It kind of makes me laugh how this whole "Disney wall" thing spread on social media. I get it though, gotta do it for the 'gram!

We stopped for a quick survey by Tomorrowland Terrace. The guy was super nice, and we actually saw him again the next day at another park. I think I would hate that job, especially since lots of guests are in a hurry to get to a reservation or FP...just seems like you'd constantly feel like a nuisance

Anyway, R stopped by the restrooms on the way out and I took this. I am a sucker for pretty flowers!

We stopped in a few stores and even watched most of a Mickey short in that art store. We took our time, and almost as soon as we stepped up to the bus stop, it started POURING. Glad we didn't dilly-dally more than we did! I almost asked if we could stay for the parade before, but it definitely got rained out.

We waited an eternity for a bus...and the people there had already been waiting a while. Several people in front of us ended up getting on the Boardwalk bus that came next to us. I was *this* close to getting a Minnie Van, and according to @Doc Disney we were at the stop where they pick up anyway! But after a few minutes of the app searching for a driver, I gave up. Luckily a few minutes late a bus came for us.

When we got back, we grabbed a snack right before they cleared the lounge and watched Oceans 12 in the room.

Up Next: Dinner

Second Park Day continued - Revenge of the (May) 5th

We stopped back by the lounge before dinner and I tried a few of the snacks while R drank a couple of beers. I think he had a Stella and a Kona Longboard. Overall the food, even at this “dinner” time was not impressive. I wouldn’t pay to stay club level here...I mean I know it’s not all about the lounge, but I would be disappointed in this one. It's nice when it's free though :hilarious:

We headed over to The Boardwalk for dinner at Trattoria al Forno.

I will never forget that room we had above the Boardwalk Bakery :inlove:

Waiting area. We were seated pretty quickly.

It was beautiful in there!

Hmmm...what to order, what to order?

First we got some bread, which was yummy.

I ordered the pasta alla carbonara, which was my favorite dish when I went to Italy. This wasn't as good as what I got there (I mean, that's not surprising), and the egg was WEIRD. It was super runny and off-putting, but I managed to eat it anyway. I didn't quite finish my plate, and our server was weird about it. He was very friendly up until that point, then he basically ignored us the rest of the time. It was strange.

I think R got the polpetta gigante (meatballs, basically), and he liked it. He also ordered a couple of wines, one of which was a dessert wine :depressed: I hate those...too syrupy!

At some point, I was able to order some gelato, which was nothing like gelato I've ever had. It was kind of icy, but the strawberry-basil flavor was nice!

We waited so long for him to finally come by with our check that I had to excuse myself to the bathroom.

I thought this looked super cool!

I was hoping to go to Magic Kingdom that evening, but by the time we finally got our check paid, I didn’t feel like it. An evening just hanging out and an early bedtime sounded pretty appealing.

I'm still disappointed in our meal at Trattoria. I think the server's sudden change didn't help, but I also just wasn't wowed by the food. Oh well, at least we tried it! In the future, if I want carbonara, I'll be going to Enzo's Hideaway.

It was so beautiful out on our walk back!

We just goofed around taking pictures. R kept saying his feet looked weird :hilarious: I think it was the wine talking.

Earlier we overheard someone asking what those huge white flowers were and I couldn't believe they didn't know what a magnolia tree was  They are just such a staple in the south, I never thought about the all poor people in the world who aren't surrounded by them... (ok I'm exaggerating, but seriously, I love magnolia trees).

Anyway after that we'd ask what those huge white flowers were when we walked by them.

We got back and just relaxed for a while. We got some desserts from the lounge, not long after we got back. We definitely didn’t need them, we were stuffed! I just kind of picked at everything since I wasn't even a little bit hungry.

I was able to watch Illuminations from the balcony. Wish I'd been able to hear the music, but it was still nice.

We got to sleep pretty early that night!

Up next: Park hopping day

Yes, the egg on the carbonara was WEIRD!! I couldn’t get past it either. While the ambiance of Trattoria al Forno is nice, and we had a great server, neither of us were blown away by the food. Doesn’t mean we won’t ever go back, but we’re in no hurry to do so.
