MK at Phase 4 closing to ALL guests today. Havn't seen that happen in a very long time, not even on July 4 or New Year's Eve. Think that record still isn't on? All those records could go - even the one you guaranteed. :)

Steve ... you still haven't said what 'record' we're talking about ... maybe it's an Eagles LP from the 70s ... or The Best of Tony Orlando and Dawn.

Yeah, MK was at Phase 4 today for a bit ... not all that long.

And yeah, I guarantee you MK won't set an all-time daily mark (considering the number is over 80,000) because capacity at that park has been greatly reduced over the years.

Phase 1 and 2, not a 4. I really don't think that a phase 4 has ever happen since the Internet and discussion forums have been around. I've been going through all my new items that I have done over the years when we get phase closings and I cant find any confirmed 4s.

There certainly have been in the Internet Era ... I've read Disney sites since 1994 (and I am sure some were around in some form before then) ... and Disney most certainly has hit Phase 4 for periods of time at every park they have except for DAK.

I understand that, and that is one of the problems with this thread. If Disney does not release attendance figures how do we know any records are being broken? If they don't release attendance figures how do we know what the old record is.

Disney did announce figures in the past.

I had the numbers for MK and EC. These were from the 80s and 90s.

But MK had a totally wack number ... well over 80,000.

You just couldn't do that today.

I wonder what the numbers were for MK+Epcot+DHS+AK+BB+TL+DTD+(All the guests who just stay at the resorts, golfing-boating etc) today.

A bit north of 80,000 I'd guess.

I love the early early morning extra magic hours. Last year when my wife and I went down during July 4th it was open until 4 AM.....at 3 AM the characters came out and actually rode rides with the guests in Fantasyland. I'm hoping for the same experience with these late nights!

So if Disney comes out and says that they broke attendance records are we going to assume that they are lying because they do not tell us exactly how many people walked through the gates?
Of course not, to accuse someone of lying without proof is reprehensible. I've always wondered why sports teams, movies, county fairs, rodeos, museums, zoos, and tons of other entertainment venues publish their attendance, and Disney does not. Why is Disney so paranoid about declaring their attendance figures?

I understand that there are different ways of counting your attendance. Personally I think the only accurate way is paid admittance thru the turnstile. I wonder which form Disney uses to establish their top secret list?

By all accounts Disney dominates the Theme Park industry. What do they have to hide by withholding attendance figures?

I would imagine well above 80,000. That would be interersting to know the total attendance for the entire resort. I'm also curious about the occupancy rate of all their rooms, with a seperate category for DVD.

Somehow I have a feeling Disney won't be sharing any of that with us.

If they released figures before why did they stop the practice?

I guess that's really a rhetorical question since we can only speculate on the reason.

I wonder if another factor is not that more people are travelling in general, but that more people are moving their $2,000 Cancun Spring Breaks to $1,000 WDW Spring Breaks

So far it follows what I predicted. The crowded times will be EVEN MORE crowded, but the slow times will be even slower.

I would amend that slightly to say the crowded times will FEEL even more crowded and the slow times will be even slower.

Don't know.

All I know was it was post-Eisner/Wells taking over.

I do wonder how MK winds up being No. 1 when all appearances would make you believe both DL and TDL get more people. I do think parkhopping, hard ticket events and CM comps all wind up in the mix, which muddies the waters.

I don't doubt for a second that is partially true.

Fort Lauderdale was the Spring Break capital of the world until the late 80s when the local politicos grew tried of the kids puking off balconies and trashing rooms, the wet tee shirt and banana eating (without the banana) contests etc ... they made it like a police state (thanks Nikki Grossman) and made it clear spring breakers weren't welcome and should go elsewhere, which they did.

But the past few years, and this year in particular I have seen throngs of college kids that I haven't seen since the 1980s.

People go where thet can get the most bang for the buck. Right now, WDW is a very good deal ... a great one in some cases ... as is most of Florida and places like Las Vegas too.

You're talking per person, right?

In my theoretical scenario, the Cancun was supposed to limit the possible crop of people to which I was referring to college students, most of whom avoid bringing their children to spring break. In other words, yes. Per person :)

I understand where you're coming from, but nah, it really IS even more crowded than ever down here right now just as the Threads have been saying. I know for certain it is at the Studios at least, last I heard right now Midway Mania is a 280 Min. wait.
:dazzle:

Before a scuffle, let me add I'm "Just Sayin", I agree that heavy crowds aren't proof positive everything is alright.

I don't think many people are saying everything is alright. I think what a lot of people are saying, is that the parks are very very busy right now, and that goes directly against a LOT of opinion from 6 months ago that we would be looking at empty parks beginning Jan 2 and going forward. This has not happened, infact, it's been busier than almost any time in recent history. Now obviously, we know that there are incentives and other factors, but that still doesnt change the fact that WDW have managed to get the people into the parks in massive numbers. That is very much newsworthy and interesting.

I also agree with that, especially the last part.

I kinda' of agree with all sides of the issue because I generally don't have the wherewithal to argue about it. Hence why I end most every post with...

Just sayin'.
