when they said the Studios, They mean WDS not DHS. 2017 is the return of Fantillusion at WDS. if I'm not mistaken tobe part of 25th anniversary of DLP. and almost 90%of Fantillusion has been torn down and the new Fantillusion will be a new one or an updated version.
Oh yes I know - I was talking about WDS which is why I said DLP

If Disney can bring Fantillusion back from the dead then why not SpectroMagic?
I've been hearing that DLP is more likely getting a new daytime parade. Its been the same for 7 years or so with minimal changes. Plus Fantilussion has been torn down mostly-they've repurposed some floats even for their Halloween and Christmas celebrations.

Maybe they could've moved it to WDSP then, which currently has neither a day or evening parade nor a nighttime show of any kind.

Incidentally, early sunset times in winter caused (daytime parade) Magic on Parade to run in the dark, and what a difference that made! So much better. Theatrical displays of any kind benefit so much from the cover of darkness and concentrated lighting.
Does it have the infrastructure?

IMHO I think all of the night time shows at WDW either need major updates or replacing especially since all of them are almost exactly the same as when they opened:
Wishes - 2003
Illuminations: Reflections of Earth - 1999
Fantasmic - 1998

IllumiNations just needs major hardware/other tech upgrades. Today's Disney doesn't have the ability to create a replacement as emotionally stirring as the current show.
I don't think that's true. Plenty of folks can make wonderful score. Beyond that, it's just fireworks, which Disney do well.

I have high hopes for the River of Light score.

I'd be shocked if it didn't.
I will be shocked to, I remember Spectromagic debuted for the 20th Anniversary of WDW back in 1991. So while it may be to early to speculate, I'm going to hope WDW might get something extra special for the 50th since I remember the 100 Years And Magic Celebration gained alot of attention to the WDW resort which actually was my first exposure to WDW.

Honestly, more than Wishes, I think RoE needs an update first. But i'd love to see a Wishes replacement too. The only other fireworks i've ever seen at MK are the seasonal ones and the Summer Nightastic ones.

I love Wishes! The tech and grandure of the fireworks/projections could stand to be plused, but I love the soundtrack and the emotional eb and flow of the show (Something I think Disneyland Forever lacks). On the right nights, Wishes can still make me tear up... I realize it's been playing forever, but I'd be sad to see it go...

Sure they do. There are some very talented people still working within WDI who could create an Illuminations caliber show for today's audiences, along with the very talented crew who actually created Illuminations, most of whom are still working. All Disney has to do is have the budget and the will to do it.

Isn't there a remake of Pete's Dragon coming out? Maybe they are hoping they can milk the parade long enough so that Pete can become recognizable again...

Yes, it's USA relase date is August 12.

We've now gotten to the point where the movie is so old, it's relevant again because of a remake.
